Anyone read The Silence in Between by Josie Ferguson set around the Berlin Wall? Its on deal of the day and I have a thing about Berlin books as i lived there as a child

Has anyone read Butter? It’s not what I expected so far.
I nearly bought it the other day after someone on booktok recommended, but my husband called to say he was ready to meet up, just as I was walking to the till. Bank account literally saves by the bell
Yes, everyone described it as a thriller but it's not really.
I liked it but would have enjoyed it more if I had the right expectations.
Yup I was expecting kind of thriller murder mystery but it’s not like that at all.

Started it but didn’t finish it, couldn’t get in to it
was offered this arc by the publisher.. started off enjoyng it but got a bit dull and let down by the ending. Did inspire some cooking tho. Used to make me hungry and I do now reg cook the butter and soy sauce rice

just finished it and completely agree with your spoiler. she was a very believable character but so many aspects of her were a complete blank slate, which i guess was interesting with how she described changing herself depending on the social situation to make sure people would like her.
it was infuriating in places but a solid four stars from me. the writing was quite clever and it felt very real.
Slightly off topic.. buuutttt… I made this Waitrose Soy Butter Chicken the other day and so simple but yum!

i agree, it was a very realistic portrayal of someone of that age who isnt sure of themselves, you just be who you think people want you to be. Glad yoh enjoyed it! I also gave it 4 stars.

Has anyone here read any books by Tom Cox? I just finished Villager and although it was very rambly (I guess that was kind of the point, but it meant I struggled to read it with any kind of background noise!) I really liked it. He seems like a lovely man as well.
I also finished Think Again by Jacqueline Wilson. I loved it. She wrote Ellie’s voice absolutely perfectly - it was definitely the same character. Not sure if anyone is talking about it here yet (I’ve skipped a few pages of the thread) but WHYYYY did Mr Windsor’s name change?!

I started this but honestly thought she was full of tit. Who can remember word for word conversations they had with everyone from their mother to their neighbour or teacher when they were a young child? I've no doubt the author is highly narcissistic - she clearly enjoys the smell of her own farts, but I didn't find her recollections believable.
I hated it too. She was obsessed with her boyfriend! Such a bore. I read it on a flight between Kuala Lumpur and London if I remember correctly so I had limited reading material and no WiFi - and it was still a massive snooze fest. I know not all psychopaths become serial killers but I was waiting for her to do something, *anything*, psychopathic or even interesting. Boring boring boring.
