i cannot remember who here recommended one dark window by rachel gillig but whoever you are, thank you muchly. i am loving it (to anyone here who likes a dark fairy tale with a really interesting use of magic - you will like this).

This is on my ridiculously long TBR. Will bump it up after your recommendation!

Currently reading A Single Thread of Moonlight by Laura Wood. It's so entertaining. I think it would appeal to anyone who likes cosy period romance/drama.

Finished The Women last night by Kristen Hannah. 5/5. Absolutely loved it.

I did feel some of the dialogue was overly cheesy in places (the gung ho 'Seahawks' for instance) but I imagine this is probably quite historically accurate. I read the author's note at the end and all the acknowledgments and sounds like she did a tit ton of research. I thought she really did a good job of portraying a believable story (I know it was based on real life experiences), weaving in the social commentary throughout but not in a forced way, and the response to returning veterans and how women were not just excluded from all that but many tried to completely deny there were even any women present. Loved all the music references throughout also. Anyway I found the whole thing so absorbing and powerful.

Same. Same. Same. I LOVED it. Praying it's made into a TV series.

I enjoy Kirsten Hanna’s books to a point. Then I feel she over eggs the pudding and throws everything at the main character to try and create shocks, twists etc - when her books could finish about 150 pages sooner and less frantic.

Four Winds felt like this so much. It was unrelentless, grim event after grim event.

But I did really like The Women. At least then the "bad things" felt like they fit with what would happen to a Vietnam Vet woman.

When I went to add it on Goodreads just now I saw it had really good reviews. I’m looking forward to reading it.
On my Kindle I am still slogging through the Cinnamon Bun Bookstore. I’m just over halfway.

Thank you, it’s a blanket I crochet. The pink parts were actually white but I had to wash it. The colour run but luckily it was quite even so it’s not a biggie.

I've just started All Hallows by Christopher Golden, I fancy something a bit spooky. It's set in the 80's and so far its reading like a classic slasher film so perfect for the season.

I finished We Solve Murders yesterday and I did really enjoy it. Took a little bit to get into it, but Richard loves to write about a 100 people so it is hard to keep it all together in my mind. I have no idea what to read next. There are a few new releases I want to read My Vampire Plus-One, Nothing Like the Movies, Rewitched and I am still trying to read The Grandest Game but it is not gripping me like The Inheritance Games series at all so I'm not sure if I will even finish it. I am off work tomorrow and I plan to quickly do some chores tomorrow morning and after that I will be sitting on my sofa with some tea because I don't feel great and I will read (or nap to feel better) but hopefully read.

BIB - this is why I didn't enjoy Thursday Murder Club and didn't read any more in the series. And if he is doing it again, I won't even bother with We Solve Murders. He just kept introducing new characters and it got unwieldy.

Im really struggling to get into it. I'll persevere but I'm just not getting it at the minute

I read the book in one afternoon a few Christmases ago. I still remember how it made me feel. Not sure I could watch the film, but looks like great casting.

for some reason I had it in my head that you had told me that Tony died so that's what I went in expecting. I did enjoy it but I wanted more, like we didn't get much detail about why Tony did what he did. I also would have liked more about how their life and relationship had been over the years. And omg the ending?? I needed moreeeee. What do you think she chose??

I just saw that Saorise Ronan is narrating the audiobook, I hope they do a film of it because the first really was stunning and I love her.

I have Claire Lombardo's latest book now so v excited to get into that!

i was devastated it just felt like a betrayal of the first book to me, but then i am a tony superfan. like you say, i wanted more backstory or at least for tony and eilis to have a proper conversation about WHY he’d done it. it made me sad because the whole thing so underlined the ending of brooklyn in a way that i don’t think i’ll read that book the same ever again.

i think she stuck to her guns about not going back tbh and the photo of tony with the baby just made her mind up for her. whether she managed to stay with jim i don’t know but i think it was very much like her life in the us was over.
