i will also say, while i’m here on my the works romance journey, that some modern romance books are so damn lazy. it makes me sad because the genre is SO good when it’s on point, but it seems like so many authors now are taking a central trope (they’re childhood friends and i guess one of them is a property developer! imagine if alexis from schitt’s creek met a fisherman! i’m a witch but unlucky in LOVE!) and forgetting to actually build any kind of plot around it.
there’s no build-up, no barriers, no real emotional payoff even though they’re almost all too long. what happened to pacing. i find it frustrating

I really enjoyed Grown Ups
Her OG books, Rachel’s Holiday and Watermelon are her best in my opinion! Also really enjoyed Last Chance Saloon. But I like all her books
i feel like the book gods read my romance genre post from yesterday and gifted me with under your spell by laura wood, which i started yesterday and is an absolute romcom delight 
also the parents blonde are currently on a cruise and i lent my mother binding 13 to take with her. woke up this morning to an all-caps DO YOU HAVE THE REST OF THE SERIES message so can only assume she’s enjoying it

Shock horror I ran out of books to read the other day, then I accidentally found 3 new books on a table. I'd also stacked up an overflow of books on my bedside table shelf. Phew!…........................
But the library have texted to say 10 books are arriving that I've been waiting for.

Though I did clear a box full out to charity shops of read books I don't want to keep and some unread I no longer want to read.
My nonfiction tbr pile is the most daunting I think.
My fiction pile i've just accepted i'm gonna be brutal with quitting on books I don't enjoy i think, especially some of the classics I'm not sure I'm gonna enjoy.

I keep finding new books in the bookcase of all places!!!!I'm either totally disorganised or I must be buying them in a trance. I don't remember buying them FGS!
I am being brutal, not allowed to buy books and I'm dying to buy the first few Lucinda Riley's. I'll probably crack for them, though
And yes the non fiction ones are the hardest as you can't disappear into them and have to concentrate. A lot of these are psychology type books, and I wouldn't be surprised if I deduced from these that I must secretly like being naughty

I'm reading under your spell too! I love Laura Wood, have read all her YA ones. Yes, and A Sky Painted Gold (very I Capture the Castle vibes), Under a Dancing Star, and A Snowfall of Silver. Love them.
This hasn't been a good reading week for me, I mostly seem to prefer staring into space rather than pick up a book. I'm hoping I get the reading vibes back next week.
I am currently reading the Little Village School by Gervase Phinn and I have to say I am really enjoying it is perfect for a hot Summer's Day as it is such a gentle and relaxing read, plus all the character feel so real that it feels like I am living with them in the village of Barton-in-the-Dale.
Think I've read all them.
If you like them you'll probably like the Miss Read books. I've always wished they could have filmed those books 
. Paula Yates loved them and she might have twisted someone's arm to get them filmed if she'd lived. Would have been real feel-good TV like The Darling Buds series. Sigh! I'm planning to read the second book next month, the third and fourth books in October and the last book in November. I will probably read his 2022 release At the Captain's Table at some point as well possibly in December or at some point next year as currently I have too many books on my tbr that I need to read.Think I've read all them.
