ali hazelwood needs to break out of the reylo fic thing. i know that’s what made her famous but she will never grow as a writer until she stops playing with the same two characters and tropes. they’re always the same two people (reylo) in vaguely similar plots.

all i remember of elena armas is the guy putting the girl’s whole boob in his mouth in spanish love deception (that is her right?! )

Yes that was Elena Armas. She does steamy very well. I must admit there was some amazing steamy scenes in The Fiance Dilemma.

Hazelwood - I find the reylo thing pretty tedious but I like how she writes, so if she can escape from reylo I will be thrilled. Possibly this is weird but I think Bride is her best book and tbh that might be in part because (like others here) I have read more than a few fanfics in my time and so was familiar with the A/B/O stuff.

If you enjoyed that then you should give her new book, Blue Sisters a read! It's 1000x better and probably my favourite book I've read this year. I didn't actually like C&F that much... it was OK but I hated all the characters (I don't always mind a book having all unlikeable characters but for some reason I did with this one.. ).

I feel completely the opposite!

Raced through Steve Cavanagh's latest Eddie Flynn book Witness 8. Another absolute cracker (slightly predictable if you have read his other books so know that Eddie and his team always come good although I am still not over Harper dying earlier in the series.) but 5* for me

Was away for two weeks, read 4 books and they were all 4 stars for me Happiness Falls by Angie Kim, The Rachel Incident, Before My Actual Heart Breaks (definitely a rec from this thread, would never have heard it otherwise) and The Divorce by Moa Herngren. The reviews on Goodreads for The Divorce seem mixed. I can see why some found it boring and cliché, but I didn't

So, finally got round to reading Funny Story (after buying it months and months ago!) and I loved it! After hating Happy Place I was on the fence about reading Emily Henry’s new book but I thought it had a great mix of characters (who I actually liked - unlike Happy Place) and good depth to the story.

I just finished Funny Story, I loved it. I did like Happy Place too but this one was better. I loved the characters.

Just finished The Street by Susi Holliday, a fairly bland thriller that was a bit dragged out at the end.

Currently reading Sugar Baby by Celine Saintclaire and its a solid 4* so far.

I’ve just finished The Guncle and oh my gosh it has to be my book of the year. Heartwarming, heartbreaking, funny…it seems hard to get hold of in the UK, I’m not sure if it’s only been published in the US, but I managed to get one on Amazon and I’m so glad I did.
