I loved Amina! Such a great crew, I think Dalila was my favourite. But when Amina sends her ex off on the raft after farewell sex, truly unmatchedalso, a solid five stars from me to the adventures of amina al-sirafi. what a fun time, what a lead character. can’t wait for the rest of the trilogy

i LOVED dalilia! i knew i would the minute she appeared with all her poison vials on ribbons in her hair
i loved raksh though, he was so much fun. it was just such a fun book in general, i don’t read many pirate/boat books but you can’t beat the vibes of a really fun crew going on adventures and fighting actual sea monsters! i haven’t read anything else by shannon chakraborty but i’m definitely going to now.
I'll be honest, I don't usually like book adaptations for the exact reason that the hot male character never lives up to the image in my headhe’s actually the closest look to rhys i could picture!
my book boyfriend casting is a detailed and intricate process for every book (as is all my book casting) but henry is an amazing constant choice - i approve
edit: actually i want to know everyone’s acotar casting nowi could never settle on a rhys and bizarrely graziano from strictly always came into my head for cassian. always felt domhnall gleason would be a good lucien too (not many redheads to pick though!)
Henry cavill is not Rhys for me at all haha. I think whoever is choosing the cast, they'd have to really pull something crazy out of the bag to cast Rhys I'd be happy with i think the rhys casting is impossible tbh and probably what’s been holding up the adaptation for so long (i feel like it was rumoured ages ago and keeps stalling). like you say, they’d have to find absolute lightning in a bottle for him and i don’t know if such a man existsI'll be honest, I don't usually like book adaptations for the exact reason that the hot male character never lives up to the image in my head
plus whoever the actor is, he’s always going to be “wrong” for a large proportion of the audience too.
I've never read a SJM book, but I've of course been aware of the books and the potential adaptations and to me it's really more that it's going to be extremely costly. The amount of CGI they're going to need, of costumes, etc. and I can't think of anything but the GOT franchise in recent years where the adaptation of fantasy novels has been truly successful. Like that new Tolkien series was reportedly not great and didn't perform well. Leigh Bardugo's adaptations only got two series because it got too expensive and not enough people were watching.
Anyway, if I wanted to read SJM, where should I start, dear gurus?

in it but the crows are just so much more interesting than mal and alina (on page and screen) that it didn’t help. the crows should have had their own series 
ninth house would make an outstanding hbo series though.i’ve only read acotar by her (i’m not a huge fantasy reader) but can vouch for them being very fun, a little steamy and with a lot of interesting intrigue and twists.

I never picture anyone famous or anyone I know in my head. It’s always just a complete random my brain has made up to sorta fit the description? I seem to be the odd one out there 
I know further back in the thread that some have read the ‘Atlas’ series, Im reading the Atlas Complex at the moment but Im struggling with it. It seems super wordy for the sake of it and not really going anywhere. Did anyone find it the same? Id like the get to end but finding it hard going.

i would definitely start with ACOTAR as the TOG series is quite long (7 main books and then you have prequels etc) and crescent city series after Acotar (do not read crescent City first)
I can see why others found the main character infuriating. I'm not annoyed by her though as she reminds me of some people I know and don't hate.
Why do I get the feeling show makers will start trying to use AI generated CGI instead of CGI crafted by humans? We'll get fantasy lands created by AI that look weird and trippy... ugh.
Tried to force my 20 new books in my bookcase today. 
Managed to get 11 in and got rid of 3 books that "I can live without".
Am itching to buy another bookcase but can hear my friend's voice in my head "they have to earn their place"! No more bookcases!
She is really good and only has one bookcase despite being a bookaholic. She could be lying to me though, and have boxes of books hidden.
Trouble is I can't remember the story in some of the books and I think I've found another 2 books that are brand new in amongst them.
My coffee table is starting to look like the book table in the bookshop!

No I’m with you! I never do any mental casting of characters when I’m reading. I actually prefer the TOG series overall in terms of story and characters and didn’t focus as much on the romance factor (it still had it but it wasn’t the focus) whereas ACOTAR is more romance based fantasy imo, I just think cause the TOG books are so long most don’t fully get into them, it does take till book 3 for the story to really ramp up.I've only read the first ACOTAR book so far. Ugh I really want to stay in all day with my cats and read but I've committed to going out
