So, I saw a reference to a book which sounded like my kind of read, and it's out of print in the UK, and there's no ebook version. Amazon had second hand copies for £75. I was contemplating shipping from the US, and then I checked Blackwell's (they do free shipping from the UK, so I thought it might work the same way), and the book is £22, reduced to £9. Perfect. I ordered it.

I opened Blackwell's again today, and the book is now £32, so now I have to work out what to do with the £66 £23 I have saved.

I’ve just watched a TikTok, a guy took his wife to a bookshop for her birthday and gave her 10 MINUTES to get as many books as she wanted 😂😂 $800 later 😂😂😂

i think you know what to do with it 😉😉😘
I also need a reward for being brave about the lack of Waterstones double points...

Foolish question on this thread!

I am curious though, what was the book?
It feels right since the money was saved on books in the first place 😉 it was Moonwise, by Greer Gilman, I saw a post where someone was trying to track down the original owner of a book they'd borrowed.

That would be my actual dream, Supermarket Sweep with books!

Thanks for the maths correction, I'd better get shopping 😂

I looked the book up, it isn't my genre but it sounds like a lovely story though. Published in 1991, paperback on Amazon is £150. 😲

Good Afternoon book besties. I have been telling mini caffeine fiend Id take them to the library since last summer. I finally went today.

Could have checked out about 50 books. Welp.

I was very good and only checked out 3 as you only get 4 weeks however all from my wishlist

The Other Half of August Hope - Joanna Glen
Hello Beautiful - Ann Napolitano
Good Material - Dolly Alderton

I am so pleased with this little haul. Only downside all hard back which I dont really enjoy but I think 2 at least arent out in paperback yet.

constantly 🤣 i can cope with unlikeable characters in general (provided that there’s some growth or self-reflection, or they at least get called out in some way) or if they’re really fun villain types but i cannot cope with books with unlikeable characters where either (a) the author doesn’t know they’re unlikeable (b) we’re expected to root for them and everything happens exactly as that character wants or (c) they remain in the same state at the end of the book that they were at the start.

i’m thinking in particular of conversations with friends where i wanted a landslide to take that entire villa into the ocean.
Ugh that's how I felt about Meet me in Milan which was a tragically awful book anyway but the main character was horrible and entitled, complained the whole time about her nice boyfriend, cheated on him, and ended up with a happy ending anf all other characters kept saying how she deserves it for being so amazing. Eh??!

Omg is this the third book by Sophia Gravia? I read the first two and couldnt bring myself to read the 3rd. The main character was that awful.

Yes! I read it not realising it was part of the series. When I found out I couldn't believe there were 2 books with this character before that 😂

Book besties my youngest has just ripped the covers off 2 books 😭😭 the Night She Disappeared which is fine, it was a charity shop purchase and I’ve read it but
He ripped Bride 😭😭😭 after my rollercoaster to get it 💔 so I need a new copy yes? Or a new child 😩 he also broke my new kindle case yesterday but I managed to fix it. I don’t know what is going on in his little ASD mind but he is in destructive mode 💔 serves me right for doing housework

Are you on school holidays? One of mine is so disregulated during the holidays. It makes them very stressful.

You have my full sympathy! My son (also ASD) has been in destructive mode this week too. Thankfully no books have been harmed apart from his own but my kindle did take a fly across the room in one of his rages.

Yes back on Monday. The weather has been so bad we haven’t been out much. The holidays definitely take their toll on him 😞

It seems that the author Lynne Reid Banks died yesterday.
Her name rings a bell. I think I must have had a book by her as a teenager. 🤔
ETA. Think it was this one:

I remember reading the Indian in the Cupboard which I think was by her. I loved that book.

Started the new Coco Mellors (thank you Netgalley) and already a quarter through and loving.
I'm so jealous! Netgalley told me NO.

But I feel like you really deserve it Carapop cos you're wonderful.

Enjoy and report back on your thoughts!
