I've been on the mini pill for over 10 years now (combined pill for about 10 years before that) and it's been great for me - can't say that I've experienced any negative side effects (just have to remember to take it at the same time every day).

I was on depo for 10 years and now sayana for 4, I love sayana cause it works for me and doing it at home etc. no periods (women don’t have to bleed but no one ever talks about that do they) and no pregnancy scares. But that’s what’s worked for me. I’d never suggest anyone do the same incase it didn’t work for them

Did you notice any side effects when moving from depo to Sayana?

it’s not for everyone but I track my cycles and have done for almost 2 years. Never got pregnant and the month we did try I got pregnant so feel like this really works for me. I’ve never felt better in myself!

I came off the pill last year after ten years on HBC and have been using FAM ever since. I absolutely love it and can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner! It’s easy to do once you’ve done your initial research, and becomes second nature after a while.

What was everyone's experience with getting the coil fitted?
I had the Mirena coil fitted two years ago and while it wasn't agony, it was a very painful procedure. I remember thinking that it was the worst pain I'd ever experienced. I would describe it as having someone penetrating you with some kind of sharp object and trying to pierce through your uterus (I guess it's not that far off from the truth ). It probably didn't help that the coil didn't open properly at first, and that the GP had to go find another one in her drawers while I laid there with my legs wide open I was lucky, I didn't have any residual pain or cramping it was only painful during the actual fitting.
I remember reading about other girls' experiences with the coil before my appointment and in the vast majority of articles I read and videos I watched, it was described as something very painful.
Anyways, now that Naga Manchetti has spoken about her experience, I read on the BBC that X and Y health boards and organisations say that it's not meant to be painful? There's even a physician who said that most women would say that the pain is a 2 or a 3? I'm really just interested in hearing about your experience with it because I feel like I've been lied to

I had the mirena fitted about 6 weeks ago for the first time… I wouldn’t say it was painful, but more uncomfortable, I had a smear at the same time and it kind of felt like that

I've only taken the injection and it made me turn into a emotional crazy bitch. And I bled for about 30 days. No word of a lie. It was mostly very very light but see annoying af!!!!! I'm not in a relationship or sexually active but when they day comes I will be stuck on what to do

There are loads of options, it’s a case of trying them out to see what works best for you.

thinking about going back on the pill because the pain is just horrendous and i get such low moods. just so worried about all the side effects it’s been 5 years since i was last on the pill so i have no idea where to even start.

Mini pill! Or just go to your nurse and chat about the different types and brands

It’ll be 2 weeks tomorrow that I had my first Sayana jab. I’ve had bad cramps and bloating which I never had before at all with depo. I had no periods or anything. I know it’s only been 2 weeks, but I’m now wishing I’d have stayed on depo. My prescription is ready for me to collect for a years worth, but I’m thinking of telling them i no longer want it and want to go back in depo. clearly being OTT and impatient.

I’m on my third implant and find it works best for me, I havnt had a period for 7 years now (which I don’t known if that’s a good or bad thing) but I recently had to wait a year for my new one to be put in and it was delayed due to Covid, I was on the cerazette pill and I had no issues just that I kept forgetting to take it! I find the implant good because you can just forget about it, although I am worried when I want to start a family I’ve been on contraception for 7 years and wether that will effect things.

I went on the implant because so many people I knew had it and never had periods. I ended up bleeding fo months at a time! Typical

This is going to be a bit out there and I don’t want to upset anyone but NOT depo provera. It’s sent me crazy and it’s also failed as I’ve found out I’m pregnant.

So now I’m in for an ultra sound on Thursday and consultation for termination on Friday.

Fucking sucks.

I’ve had child #1 in September 2023, would like another but definitely not instantly, thinking more 3/4/5 years time. I’m useless at taking a pill, bled on depo constantly. Thinking the coil will be my best bet and it’s a bonus it’s non hormonal…

Resurrecting this thread to hopefully get some advice!

I've been on Desogestrel for 8 years now with no periods but I'm wondering if it's time for a change. I have zero sex drive, I feel bloated a lot, a bit depressed/lacking in motivation and I'm not sure if it's the pill or just the general state of affairs in the world lol

I would be open to trying another pill but side effects terrify me - like I haven't really gained weight or had acne with this one but what if another one causes it?! I don't recall my periods being too bad, just the general cramps but it's been so long since I've had one I don't know if I can accurately recall.

Do I just come off it and have a break for a while and see how my body reacts? Or ask my doctor if I can try something else. It feels like such a big decision which could effect my life hugely.

I had my mirena coils for 20 years, they were great. My daughter recently got the implant which was terrible for her. She had to beg to have it removed and she now has a mirena.

Yeah they were completely hanging out. 3rd time they've been hanging completely out of my body totally not normal. It came out though so explains the pain I was in!

I’ve had a coil rejected by my body too. It’s so weird, isn’t it? One morning I woke with stabbing pains and had to go and have it removed. Sometimes our bodies just don’t accept them.

Had the implant for years but definitely noticed weight gain while I had it and for the first year or so the bleeding was completely random - would literally have no bleeding and then without warning id have full on heavy period style bleeding that could last from 2 days to 2 weeks. It was up & down like a yo-yo but after it settled I had no bleeding at all for the rest of the time I used the implant (I had 3 in total spanning a decade)

Have the copper coil now. Completely painless to have inserted and no side effects really - period comes like clockwork and I like that it’s hormone free.

I can honestly say that I never experienced any pain whatsoever when having my copper coil fitted. None. The whole “procedure” took less than 2minutes and I felt NOTHING. Nothing. Not a thing!!! I was very surprised after reading a lot of horror stories but hand on heart, it was very quick and completely pain free - infact I actually had to ask the Dr if she had even done anything because it was so quick and I didn’t feel anything!

New to this thread and have found all your experiences very interesting to read. My only experience with the copper coil has put me off for life, my mum had one put in once and she got pregnant, they couldn’t work out why at the time but years later when my mum was having a colonoscopy, they found the copper wire lodged in my mum, ever since then it’s put me off and everyone I know who’s been on the other type has had a horrible experience. What irritates me, is I’ve been on the mini pill for 4 years due to migraines, it works great for me but every time I go to the doctor they try to force me off it purely because it costs the NHS more money than the implant or coil…. Why is women’s health the first to suffer as a result of money!!!
