Hi guys, I hope this is not too long-winded and hopefully someone actually reads it and this situation has more eyes on it.
If you agree with my email, I strongly encourage others to send the same email, I am happy to paste the text for you to copy and amend yourself.

Please let me know if I have missed something.

As I said in the email, we are living in a world where mental health is crumbling, and mental health support in the NHS is completely over-subscribed. Let's do something to stop these influencers making profits from and encouraging eating disorders, it is 2021.

Yes I am more than happy to send them an email with the same, could you copy the text please and I’ll amend mine too.

i was recovering from a 3year long eating disorder and Alex’s plan coming out last Jan (as well as the constant barrage of pictures of her new slim body) sent me down a major relapse. I used to follow her and admire how she embraced her curves. Then she did a total U turn. I thought I was the only one but finding this thread has been so reassuring.

i think she is such a hypocrite and have zero sympathy as she continues to make money off those like me. She doesn’t even have the dignity to admit even one crumb of accountability. I’ve had to block her for the sake of my own mindset. She is Very toxic and fake.

I started to really see through the veneer when we would be at the height of the pandemic, and each morning she’d be posting those ridiculous ‘motivational’ stories screaming at us to get up and walk 10k steps before 10am.
Alex would always post DMs from girls saying how much she motivates them and how they’re so thankful for her stories, made me feel like I was weird for finding the stories to be so phoney and irritating. She really made me feel tit about myself and my life for months. But my ED took over and I sickeningly admired her for getting so thin, I wanted to be like her. Thank god I woke up.
She’s not dumb- she knows exactly what she’s doing.

I actually joined a weight loss programme online it wasn’t promoted by any celeb and it appeared to focused on changing your mindset. By looking at the page it seemed most people were on 1700-1800 which would be the norm for me to lose weight. It also seemed to encourage more protein and a healthy attitude to weight loss.

When I paid and started they put me down on 1400 calories so I would have a big loss. I went away for 3 days on a holiday and she turned around and told me to drop to 1300 to “make up for it” even though they were trying to promote a “healthier mindset with food”. It turns out they weren’t qualified in food nutrition and yes, I did lose some weight but it severely impacted my mental health.

I think it’s very easy for young people to buy into these programmes being pushed by Love island stars or bloggers but it is so damaging. Once I seen her plan being promoted I knew it couldn’t be good and I’m delighted it’s being called out because it is promoting a serious unhealthy attitude to food. 1200 calories is what a child needs to survive in a day
Only Registered Dietitians and Nutritionists (this takes a degree and further study to acheive) are technically allowed to give someone a diet plan and advise calories. I am currently studying to be a Nutrition Coach and the first few chapters of this (low level) certification is about understanding your place as an NC. For example, you can provide advice using the UK's healthy eating guidelines, but it is absolutely forbidden to give someone a diet plan or calories, same with Personal Trainers.

The idea of calories numbers being thrown at someone makes me really uncomfortable. I personally don't like counting calories, and some days I am genuinley more hungry than others, or for example if i've gone on a long walk.. I'm having that big bowl of pasta lol!
I encourage anyone on a weight loss or healthy lifestyle journey to definitley educate themselves on what it is they are eating and how much, using a calorie calculator to calculate their BMR (basal metabolic rate based on your gender, height, weight, age) and then factor in how active you are.

From my own personal journey in health and fitness, my biggest lesson and advice would be a professional of your own body. Know how it feels to be you, what makes you overly tired, when are you hungry, are you drinking enough water? Do you enjoy the exercises you are doing? Is your diet mostly balanced, fruit & vegetable based, some protein from meat fish tofu whatever, some sweet treats you enjoy and love and putting all of this information together to work on how you can be happy.

Yes slightly off topic I know, hope someone finds that interesting or hopefully useful. xx

Please could you send the text to me as well? I’ll send an email.

I bought the plan about a year ago and lost around a stone. I did work out my BMR and went mainly by that but I still had her unrealistic figure as a goal in my mind! Especially as I was a similar size to her when starting. I fell pregnant so stopped following the plan but I’m still shocked at how she continues taking peoples money and promoting the plan. The HBP FB page was completely unmonitored and the least motivating group page I’ve ever seen. I see things just get deleted now though. I don’t know how she sleeps at night.

Good afternoon,
I wanted to get in touch about the lack of coverage and regulations on celebrities, particularly Instagram influencers/ ex-love island people selling (££) fitness plans online without even a Level 3 in Personal Training or any level of certification in knowledge of nutrition coaching, how is this legal? The example attached below is about Alexandra Louise, she has been selling a ‘happy body plan' for around year now. Recently, @alexandralouise_ has come out and said that her weight loss was not from a happy place at all. As an example, she lost her period (very alarming), was obsessive with exercise and under ate massively. This way of living has been packaged and sold to 10,000s of young impressionable women, some of which have taken to her Facebook page and Instagram from losing their periods and under-eating (with 1200 calories I believe being advertised). These comments and discussions have been rapidly deleted and blocked from the page. Not only did she achieve this body through disordered eating and obsessive exercise, she also achieved it through having a Personal Trainer, NOT the recommended small amount of HIIT exercises.

Alexandra is STILL selling her fitness plan, despite coming out and saying she struggled greatly with food and obsessive exercise. We are living in a world in which mental health is crumbling, and mental health support with the NHS is completely over-subscribed. I would really hope there are regulatory bodies or rules in stopping people from profiting from eating disorders and encouraging these tendencies. Leave it to the professionals.

Other influencers including Zara McDermott, have been heavily associated with fitness and setting the example, her page @adaywithzara may make it clear that she is not a professional, however it is abundantly obvious she has an eating disorder and has some form of body dysmorphia, yet thousands of young teenage girls adore her. She also recently got called out by Celebrity Personal Trainer @bradleysimmonds for demonstrating poor form performing a squat for a Missguided advert, such bad form can cause injury to the knees, ankles and back. Again, leave it to the professionals to advise, coach and set the example.

Just sent my email now. Feels good to take action. Really hope this catches on and this issue is highlighted. I don’t want others to fall down the same spiral as I did. Can’t believe she’s charging for fitness plans when she’s not qualified. Makes me so angry.
Thank you for pasting your message xx

Really sorry to hear so many of you have struggled/ are struggling.

She is the only influencer I have ever I followed because I was instantly triggered by her image.

I too have suffered with various EDs. The image that made me unfollow was one of her laying in a bikini, ribs sticking out. I’m so ashamed to say I felt overwhelmed with jealousy. I instantly unfollowed. It made me angry and upset to know I felt jealous of her look.

I feel like if you’ve had an ED you see it in others. To me her problems were obvious from the start.

I’d never wish an ED on anyone. It’s a trap. One that I feel you never truly get out of and it’s repugnant that she is influencing young girls into disordered eating behaviours.

I couldn’t have put this any better. I too saw signs of her ED developing, especially in her YouTube vlog where she had no scales to measure her oats, and instead of saying screw it, she decanted her oats into 10 separate bowls to get rough calorie numbers.

Also when she went to a restaurant, and brought her own steamed veggies to eat.

the reason I feel no sympathy, is because she was pushing her thoughts onto her followers and even now is up-selling the very plan that made her develop disordered eating/exercise habits. I could never do that and don’t understandhow she sleeps at night.

She defo convinces herself/believes she’s done nothing wrong.

So sorry to hear you are also struggling with an ED, it can feel so lonely but you are not alone and I’m here with you xx

I also believe her 10,000 calorie challenge was the perfect opportunity for her to binge under the guise of ‘educating’ her followers. So patronising and little regard for anyone but herself.

God I hate that dancing she does to the camera. How very, very sad
It’s the smug face for me.

also, if it is “pure joy”, why feel the need to record yourself and post it? What is this personality type? Is it narcissistic or just incredibly insecure?

Either, or, I reckon she really struggles with content and just posts whatever tit she can. She doesn't post as much as other influencers and doesn't appear to have much going on either (which to be fair who does really at the moment)
I imagine living alone makes this trickier. Zara McDermott would be the same as all she posts about is Sam or what she is feeding Sam. I bet if she lived alone at the moment she wouldn't have anything interesting to say either.

Now Alex isn't posting about what she's eating or how much she's exercising she just seems to be full of all these generic affirmations and inspirational quotes and not much else

Alex you can NOT help, stop plugging a plan based on lies and trying to give fitness/nutritional advice when 1) you’re not qualified for either 2) you’re in recovery from an eating disorder!! Honestly want to slap her on, should be issuing refunds to everyone! For the creator of “happy body” she is the least genuinely happy and fulfilled person I’ve ever seen

I reckon her sales have taken a nose dive, how many celebrity plans stay popular? She had her great reveal over a year ago now and this sudden reversal must have have hurt sales even more

I am FUMING! She is peddling her body plan saying it’s improved her life and sharing pictures that she has shared previously saying actually how deeply unhappy she was at the time. Alex you are a liar. And you’ll find that in your DMs as well 👊🏻

I did some digging and it seems the "original" Mila brand did not trademark their name.
I found a trademark for the name Mila registered in August 2020 under the name Balambi Ltd. A quick google of Balambi Ltd and Mila took me to Alexandras Mila website's Terms and Conditions, and Balambi Ltd is registered on companies house with Alexandra as a 'person with significant control'. Sadly this highlights the importance of trademarking your business name!
