Is she for real? Is she reading here and just doing it on purpose now to be spiteful?!
definitely. she's proved she reads here, so she's quite obviously doing this on purpose. imagine actually choosing to place vulnerable people at risk, being totally aware of the potentially damaging consequences of your actions, yet doing it anyway - just because you can. the only point she's proving is how little she cares about her followers. her attitude and behaviour is utterly disgusting. 😡

she's posting endlessly about how being thin doesn't make you happy etc, but it seems that she is the only person she needs to convince as she's obviously reminiscing over old photos of herself as she visibly - and very proudly - loses weight before her audiences' eyes. it's scary how rapidly her mental health is declining, but the people around her need to intervene and support her - because absolutely nothing defends such irresponsible and damaging behaviour.

i would feel sorry for her, but i honestly have no sympathy for someone who is deliberately placing people at risk. 🤷🏻‍♂️

This may be totally off the mark but I’ve always had a theory that her mentality and motivation is “if I can’t be thin no one can”. Is it now that she’s losing weight so she’s trying to get others back on the train so to speak?

She’s posted A LOT lately too. Does she usually post at that rate? Honestly think she’s looking quite unhinged. And I agree it is really sad that she has people to intervene who clearly aren’t

Does she not see the irony in sharing this post? This is exactly how she poses in many of her own 'fashion' pics! 😳
She's taking the absolute piss now....it's her go to pose along with the leg drape 🙄 she posted a picture just yesterday posing like that, along with her problematic (and unnecessary) captions about buying a smaller size.

It's only a matter of time before she is going to feel the fallout from this. Its bad enough she exploits her vulnerable followers financially but to now be deliberately posting triggering pictures ..absolutely shameful

Over half a million followers and she is perfectly happy to post content she knows is harmful to each and every one of them, in order to be spiteful to literally a handful of folk posting legit criticism here. Good lord.

Get help Alex, you need it.

I have just found this thread and am glad I wasn’t the only one thinking it, maybe we’re all wide off the mark but I genuinely feel worried for Alex, she’s coming across as though she’s really struggling. and god knows what her impact this is having on her followers. social media can be really good but god it can be harmful

so she's explaining in her stories that she is totally okay looking back at photos of herself when she was underweight - she doesn't find them triggering because she's not envious of her body at a lower weight - but if other people find looking at photos of themselves at a lower weight triggering, then they shouldn't look at them. yeah great, but the difference is that she's not just browsing at past memories - she's purposefully sharing the photos all over SM with no consideration to the fact that other people find her photos triggering - in exactly the same way that she found emaciated images of the olsen twins and kate moss in the nineties triggering. it's one thing choosing not to delete photos of yourself when you were struggling with an eating disorder, because they reflect a time in your life and deleting them feels like you are erasing part of your life - but it doesn't mean you need to plaster them all over SM when you know they have the potential to place others at risk - and she's sharing these images more and more frequently, which implies she is spending time looking back at photos of her underweight body and reminiscing - despite the denial - because it's hardly coincidental that this re-emergence of old photos ties so perfectly with her recent weight loss. so much for her advice to "stop glamourising old photos"! she's sharing low weight photos on a daily basis with such crappy excuses, like "oh, I love this outfit I wore seven years ago when coincidentally I was much thinner". 🤦🏻‍♀️

i wonder if she'd be quite so happy to support other people if they began filling their SM with photos of themselves at points in their lives when they were struggling with an eating disorder and visibly emaciated, justifying imagery which she has previously explained she would find triggering as totally acceptable, because it was just them at a different point in their life thus shouldn't be demonised - despite the negative impact they may have on others. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well good for her if she's found her peace but what about all the thousands of others that follow her page that aren't so lucky and are still struggling daily and are looking to her for guidance?

She really needs to be more considerate and show more compassion. She is in the privileged position she is because she has tapped into the ED market, these same vulnerable people have built her engagement which has brought in the brands and freebies plus given her the opportunity to sell a clothing range plus a book. Are these people now surplus to requirement? Her recent behaviour on line had been problematic and very self serving. The mask always slips with these greedy instahuns, it's such a shame vulnerable people get caught in the crossfire.

Exactly this, yes we are all responsible for managing our triggers but her CONSTANT pictures of her at a dangerously low weight are mentally jarring and honestly quite selfish. We don’t need to see her at her height of anorexia, she has a social responsibly to protect the community of women who mainly follow her as previous victims of an awful mental and physical illness. Have some compassion and care ffs.

Those people don’t need to see it because they loves it, I swear she’s bordering on a pro ana account at this point.

Honestly, she's annoyed the tit out of me for quite a long time. But the weird behaviour of her this last few weeks is both damaging and odd.
She created a platform for women to 'be themselves' and embrace themselves.
But its crumbling now isn't it?
That bleeping weird rant about coming off anti depressants was just so unbelievably selfish. People were trying to give her genuine helpful advice, but she went off on one about it which was so absolutely alienating to people who like her.
And then having a weird flap about someone on here? I never thought I'd say this but SMD dealt with her 'tattle problem' with so much more class than Alex did. And to be 'out classed' by SMD is breathtaking

It’s been a while since I looked at this thread, but last time I did it was generally quite positive about Alex..how things have changed! I expect it’s been mentioned in previous posts, but the increased sharing of photos of her from when she was super slim just says to me that’s she’s still seriously struggling with accepting her current body. She supposedly shows those photos to support her message that skinny doesn’t mean happy, but she’s clearly far from happy right now. Hope she gets some help.

"I swear she’s bordering on a pro ana account at this point." - thank you so much for saying this. I've felt this way for a while - and it's refreshing to know that it's not just my perspective.

she is genuinely taking any opportunity to post pro ana content and typical" thinspo" imagery - like plastering emaciated photos of the olsen twins etc all over her grid is somehow totally acceptable because she's doing so under the guise of highlighting the unattainable body image ideals of the 90s - yet she simultaneously talks about the unhealthy "heroin chic" body expectations promoted by underweight catwalk models like kate moss and how it influenced her to equate thinness with happiness and that she ultimately developed an eating disorder. there is no way to justify sharing the exact photos that triggered her as a teen as though they won't have a similar damaging impact on other vulnerable people who follow her account.

and as for the photos of herself when she's at a low weight - sure Alex, go look back thru all your old photo albums and reminisce about your underweight body; that's entirely your choice. 🤷🏻‍♂️ but sharing photos from over ten years ago when she was in the depths of her eating disorder and justifying doing so by saying she's making reels which include loads of photos of her when she was underweight to prove that weight doesn't equate happiness, or simply because she loves the outfit back in she was wearing back in 2015 is totally despicable behaviour. it's not even just the occasional photo - it's a constant influx of "look at me, i was skinny!" photos and whatever she says, i don't believe she doesn't find them triggering. it's quite obvious she's looking back at them to trigger herself - in the same way that she spends hours on editing apps, editing herself skinny - hence the weight loss and the proud "i bought trousers a whole size smaller!" comments. if she loves the outfit she was wearing in that old photo and was inspired to recreate it, it's not as though she couldn't simply buy herself a mini skirt and put together a similar outfit. the truth is she won't, because she wouldn't feel comfortable wearing a short skirt and showing her legs at a weight she is so clearly uncomfortable at. her style has changed completely, and recently she always dresses in huge, baggy, oversized clothing to conceal her body - and, potentially, her recent weight loss - so why lie? she has absolutely no plans to start wearing similar outfits to how she dressed as a teenager - it was simply another excuse to share a low weight photo of herself and trigger her followers.

at this point, i don't care if she's struggling - it's not only about HER. she has absolutely no shame, using a supposed "body confidence" platform with a huge audience of vulnerable followers with eating disorders/body image issues to essentially promote anorexia under the guise of "weight loss is okay" - and she seriously needs to take responsibility fo her behaviour and all the people she is needlessly placing at risk. 😡

There are soo many other more positive ways to get the message across without her constantly attaching triggering images of herself.

the thing is, she knows this. she used to manage to get similar messages across without sharing the low weight images of herself - it just shows how much her content has changed, and she's just using these "inspirational" body confidence messages as an excuse to share endless triggering images of herself. there is absolutely no excuse for it. 😡

I think it’s veering onto irresponsible here. I downloaded BEAT’s Media Guidelines for discussing eating disorders (if you work for any mental health company or charity in an official capacity you have to read this and stick to it religiously as their messaging needs to be incredibly careful, because you know, they don’t want to endanger people)
It’s interesting, going to cite some examples of things they advise.
“Please avoid: Using images of emancipation, empty plates, scales, measuring tapes, or any other stereotypical image representing mental illness. Eg, photos of people with eating disorders at their lowest weight”
“List where readers/viewers can get help. Eg, Contact BEAT on ….”
“Social media is unlikely to be the sole and direct cause of eating disorders, although for some people certain social media content can be an exacerbating factor”
“Someone’s weight, or how much they lost or gained, is not relevant to raising awareness or understanding. Eating disorders are about so much more than weight”

By the way, that’s on the first 5 pages of a 16 page document. That takes 2 minutes to access. And is free.

There’s no excuse for her to carry on like this, it’s frightening to think of what this might be doing for her followers

The best thing you can do, we can all do as a collective, is to reach out to all the companies that pay her, so Dove, Gillette, Ann Summers, Butternut Box, etc, and TELL THEM how unhappy you are with her account. If there’s a large movement of people saying the same thing (that her content is triggering) then someone will take action and she’ll have to listen.

Also, hi again Alex’s management! You’re getting such a great heads up on this one - you could show how much you’re listening to us by changing her output which would avoid any of this! Okay, toodaloo !
