I've avoided my stores post Christmas because i
I’ve just cracked open a box of biscuit mug hangers. Caramelised biscuits with a sugar coating, they are amazing. Why oh why didn’t I try these before now
These posts need photos soooo much. I fear I've missed some delights however I've also saved some money & potentially gained fewer calories so 🤷‍♀️

Is there a way out of Lidl when you don't buy anything? I went in yesterday, they didn't have what I wanted so I tried to go through an empty checkout - no luck - gate wasn't for budging. The 2 checkouts in operation were in full flow with long queues and I didn't fancy trying to squeeze past all those trolleys, so I went back to the entrance, waited for someone to enter, and walked out that way ... and the alarms went off. o_O
It's so stressful.. you feel like you are a shoplifter trying to escape.. . Let us leave Lidl , for the love of god let us leave in peace 😂😂😂😂
---
I got stopped by security in Aldi a couple of months ago and he was shouting at me to come back in the shop as the alarm had gone off - I couldn't get past the people coming out so he continued to shout at me, it was so embarrasing as everybody at the checkouts were looking at me. When I got back in he accused me of stealing half a bottle of vodka and some tuna and was raising his voice at me to get them out of my bag. The man who works the self serve came running up and apologised to me and told him it was ok but the security guard just walked off and never said a word. The manger said that the security guy was new and he apologised and I told him if I was going shoplifting I would do in Marks and Spencers down the road. Not seen the security guard since and can only hope he got sacked.
Ohhhh I wouldn't let that go.... I'd be fuming... Sorry that happened you 💛

Braved the wooden toys in Lidl - what a difference to Aldi last week, no drama and plenty of everything. I was in and out in 10 minutes with everything on my list (including the kitchen which is lovely!)

There were 2 packs of the macarons left in Aldi and as much as I wanted to buy both so I could have one today and another when I wasn't sick and my tastebuds were back at 100%, I left the other one for someone else 🤣

I also picked up the camembert & red pepper bread heart thing, which looks good, but there's so much bread for a 2 person starter! We're probably not going to have it tonight, because I'm making pasta and Mr Duck is on call tonight, so carb induced food comas are a no go unfortunately!

My Aldi has started stocking the cherry bakewell jaffas! I look every time I'm in there and there's usually not even a label on the shelf for them, but today there were loads! I bought one box, which I'm probably going to regret next week when they dissappear 😅

In ours you can walk through the self checkouts.
As demonstrated by 2 drug users/ alcoholics who were shoplifting armfuls of beef roasting joints last week, you can also seemingly walk out via the entrance even if no ones coming in, by pushing slightly on the gates.

Any pizza recommendations from ALDI? Can be fresh or frozen. We are moving in 4 days 🤯 and my local will now be Aldi rather than Lidl and I will finally have a fridge/freezer big enough for pizza 🤩🥳 Clearly I have my priorities in order lol

Just got lots of goodies from Aldi including dark choc covered orange slices, caramelised nuts and blonde choc marshmallow brownie bites. They were all in the middle aisle. Taste tested all of it as soon as I got home, all of them are really nice except the brownie bite which don’t really taste of anything.

I also got the hazelnut cream and it’s like crack, I honestly could eat the whole jar in one go. Im not buying it again it’s sooo good and im trying to watch my weight 😂

looked for the mac and cheese but couldn’t see it. Stocked up on pasta sauces and curry spice pots as well as the usual meat/veg etc.

Bought the vegan gammon, vegan beef and vegan foot long pig in blanket thing from Aldi today. Very excited to try them. Had the gammon last year and it was very tasty. Have got the vegan chicken from Asda for Christmas day so thinking the gammon for boxing day and the beef for new years 😊
Enjoy! I had a list of vegan items I wanted to pick up in Aldi, but mine did not stock any of them 😭

The pain Suisse in Lidl isn't the best one I've ever had but for 65p? It's fantastic.
It's the only one I've ever had and I've just scoffed one!

I got a very nice Cava from Lidl today and I'm on my second glass right now. Cheers, fellow foodies. 🥂🍾

Aldi’s hot honey cashews and the mighty yeasty cashew/almonds are so good!

Yes, pecan, but I was a bit underwhelmed. It was like a millionaire's square but had pecans. Just tasted very sweet.

I want to find the coated in chocolate brownies!!!!!!!!
Agree. The one I had just tasted mega sweet and not pecany at all. I didn’t even finish it which never happens!

M&S mince is not vacuum packed. I'm not convinced it made any difference, I recycle the plastic trays, I'm never sure what to do with the vacuum packaging so it goes in the bin. All very performative, particularly when there are vast swathes of ready meals and convenience foods being sold.
The best way to reduce packaging is to encourage people to cook from scratch but that isn't going to happen because the money is in the UPF.

I've been shopping in Aldi since it opened about 10 years ago and NO ONE has ever spoken to me apart from hello and thank you. I got to the till and the bloke said busy day? Do you like gardening? any hobbies, do your family live local? I hope this isn't a regular thing I just want my shopping thrown at me and to get out 🤣
yeah I think you’ve been hoodwinked for the past 10 years - can’t shut them up in aldi. They must’ve had a secret shopper in and been scolded for being the least friendly branch - you’re going to have to pretend to like people if you want to carry on shopping there 😂

I was in Lidl today and noticed The Stollen Bites £3.99 were nearly cleaned out, so I got one for insurance purposes. Might put it in the hamper I'm doing.
It has rum in it.
Stollen seems popular but panettone less so.
I've never had panettone. Not sure if it's worth trying one. 🤔
Panettone is beyond disappointing. Just like eating expensive Christmas flavoured cardboard. My Italian friends disagree but god it’s boring. I suppose it’s like beans on toast, or bread sauce - one of those things you live if you’re brought up by British parents but other nationalities are just like wtf, you like this WHY?

It just about alright if you toast it or make bread and butter pudding with it.

Thanks for all the ideas 🥰 I just opened the jar and tried some. This is a serious danger food oh my god. I hope they have restocked the shelf in the morning…

Mr Pecan tried it too and now I need to hide it from him. Mine.
