I have seen the illegals here in France awaiting their chance to get across Theyy have even overtaken a holiday campsite near the port that of course is now strictly out-of-bounds for tourists any longer and nothing th owner can do about it seemingly, not to mention intimidating people waiting to board their ferry or climbing into caravans and trailers whilst the owners are getting something to eat before their journey. The gendarmes are on constant patrol but it does not stop them making attempt after attempt to get across by whatever means they can and do you know why? Because in France they don't make asylum easy, its a long, difficult, laborious process and at the end they don't get a lifetime of handouts as in the UK as they are obliged to get work because benefits automatically stop after 6 months - there is no lifetime of obligation to fund dossing about for anybody here. TBH I admire it but you can see why the UK is the destination of choice for everybody can't you?I didn't believe my brother and his posts about illegals coming here from France the claims were pretty out there. In trying to be smug and proving him wrong, it was me that was proved wrong. I could not believe what I was seeing, the dinghies even being escorted over here by the fence navy. 100s of dinghies along the coast. so many men around the same age were being escorted onto busses. looking smug at the camera none looking worried or scared. I was transported to a whole new way of thinking.
I always believed those people who complained about illegals here were racists arsholes.
As of the last update Pen has got the OK for his planeload of animals and people and is still awaiting that good ol' rubberstamp before they actually pack up to leave - its all bought & paid for and as usual its waiting for bureaucracy to catch up which is all very well considering how desperate everything isI’m a bit conflicted on Biden because this was going to happen anyway. Moving troops out in a phased manner may have delayed some of the chaos but there’s the possibility that people would have known what was coming, some employees would have been left behind (which imo is the most shameful thing) and, as he has seem to have said, it would have been seen as a waste of time for some people anyway. Plus the possibility that it may have been a waste of more money
I think it’s easy for the public to sit there and call it all shameful and blame the people in power, but this seems to have been the outcome anyway - maybe on a smaller scale but still shameful. Many Americans weren’t in favour of staying there either and I doubt many were thinking about human rights
Apparently Boris has been working behind the scenes since the start of this and we haven’t heard much about it. Not a fan of Boris personally, so that seems like a stupid choice by his PR department or the media as it would make him look like he’s at least trying and isn’t just backing Raab and his holidays
I think this is more of a reminder that countries shouldn’t follow America blindly or in general tbh. The EU isn’t able to do anything because it’s really not their business, and Britain has not had a lot of international influence for ages anyway. All the smaller countries are going to be left screwed if they’re not able to withdraw from Afghanistan in time. Doubt many are going to blame America if/when it comes to that because diplomacy
Also I wonder what’s so hard with getting planes clearance. It seems like Pen had everything planned to a T and now MoD dropped out on him for some reason, so there must be some difficulty with getting clearance?
I expect Boris' wife had a lot to do with pushing him along being the keen animal advocate that she is so a Big Thanks to Carrie! Now we just need Pen and his Ark out of there asap
