I think the thing to remember is Adam is doing what he wants to do. And Adam being pretty hellbent on doing what the wants to do probably stands in the way of committing to a relationship in the traditional definition more than his father ever will. I can say from personal experience, knowing Adam directly, and being female, that your wife is correct in her assessment.
