on the first episode and i am enjoying the sneaky editing to make it clear kevin is to blame also even though he protests
when he says it was all going on in the shadows and he wasn’t aware of ruby’s behaviour, then it cuts to a clip of ruby grabbing one of the little’s face and telling them off, and kevin behind the camera saying ‘we’ll cut that part out’
I've only watched the 1st episode but wow. If Chad was beaten so severely there was blood splattered on the walls and the children were being whipped before Jodi was even involved how can he possibly claim he didn't know?? And that's ignoring all the emotional abuse that he was literally recording! I really get icky vibes from him.

He had to know, he was part of the channel so would have seen how she acted in the " outtakes" he lived there, of course he knew what she was like and what was going on. Likely to scared to speak up or didn't want to admit it to save his own skin.

The 2nd episode with the crossover of Covid and Mormon apocalyptic beliefs was all quite telling. And Jodi’s visions of glory stuff and the elaborate “possession” schtik. The bishop mentions in the episode who was blessing Jodi needs investigation too

I kept thinking of the song in the Book of Mormon show "I am a Mormon.
And a Mormon just believes.
You cannot just believe part-way.
You have to believe in it all." I didn't appreciate just how indoctrinated to "believe" they are. You'd think seeing Jodi writhing around pretending to be possessed would snap them out of the "she's a great therapist" thinking into "she's unhinged let's back away slowly" but nope, it just made them believe in her even more.

Not only did he know what was going on he actually took part in the abuse as well. He isolated when Jodi told him to do that and it seemed like he agreed with Jodi telling Ruby to take Christmas away from the 2 youngest kids because they were being selfish. He could have easily stopped it but yet he chose to partake in the abuse.

Just finished watching the series... yeah how is the father getting away with it all? I guess cos he was not around during that one year which is what they have all the evidence for. But still..

The unedited footage is really something

Also slightly confused about how Kevin wasn’t aware that things behind the scenes were that bad. He clearly knew that some level of abuse was going on but I have a hard time believing that he didn’t know Chad had been beaten so bad that there was blood on the walls (and not particularly easy to clean mind you!) for example

I wonder if the statement was more about what came later?

I’ve just started, obviously I’m only in the beginning but they’re making it out like she became a YouTuber off her own “passion” to show she was a good mother for LDS but wasn’t it because of her sisters? Ellie and Bonnie had channels quite a few years before her and they were verrrrrry popular. Ruby and Kevin were broke and needed money so clearly that’s the motive…. I don’t get why Hulu are changing the narrative as her family aren’t even mentioned as I would say she was the least popular for the sisters channels.

Kevin saying she was the most popular mother and the face of YouTube…. Huh???? I knew of her but I’d certainly say there were way way waaaay more popular families. They only really got huge when people noticed the issues with the kids. That’s when I started watching.

I cant believe after everything Kevin still says he loves her! You would wish anyone death who puts your kids through something like that, no matter the history or connection.

That man is an abuser, I’m sorry but Shari even says - Ruby was a bad mother and had the capacity to abuse before Jodi and honestly, Kevin was as bad as her at that time. I fully believe Kevin also believed his kids were Demons, he left knowing this was going on and did nothing.

Watched two episodes. And absolutely Kevin knew and was involved to a certain extent, weak willed man who enjoyed the money at the expense of his children’s safety.
Docu makers carefully splice the questions to his pathetic answers and the footage of him being a bleep to the kids as well.

See him carefully choose his words and blink slowly as he knows one wrong word he’s behind bars as well .

Pathetic parents both of them

My understanding is that he left before all the truly horrible things beyond your average borderline normalised abuse started happening

It sounded like they went from the family they always were (i.e fairly happy but with abuse going on behind the scenes) to "you're annoying the spirits" and everyone is possessed more or less overnight

Kevin gives me the creeps i knew this was a horrible story but watching those episodes has made me realise how much worse it was. Monsters all 3 of them!

Also what else do we know about Jodi? Her children? I assume she was abusing her own children in that house at some point. That house and the rooms in the basement give me the absolute creeps.

Not long finished the doc on Disney+.
I hope to god Kevin never gets custody of those children.

By the end of it I was left with the impression that Kevin would still go back to Ruby no matter what and that he feels like this is a 'test' period for him to come back into the family with her if she's ever released

The man needs a ton of therapy

She had way more subscribers than her siblings. She went viral with the baby climbs out the cot vlog

I feel so sad for Shari and Chad. Kevin should have stepped up for his children over a wife who was clearly in love with someone else. The first episode while they are getting ready for church and she is screeching about the noise was horrifying.
