2021 Holidays

I have colleagues who were hitting the ceiling with excitement about Ibiza being put on the green list ... so they went and booked trips for mid August! I mean, do what you want, but if you can get the leave and you really want to go, I'd be booking to go in the next 2 weeks or so.

I was meant to go last summer to Thailand and we haven't rebooked our flights yet (we have vouchers) - they are opening Phuket I think really soon as a sandbox scheme and hoping to reopen the rest of tourism following that. I'm hoping to rebook for next year sometime too.
The clever people are those who keep quiet about where they are going and so if it goes Amber while you're there you can happily do what you want when you get back.

Worked for us last year. It is horrible not being able to talk about your holiday though.

If you’re thinking about going, please please go. The UK’s travel industry is on its knees and needs all of the support it can get and they are getting no help at all from the government. 🥺🥺
Honestly I'd love to but it's just so fucked at the moment. One of the best elements of a holiday is looking forward to it but all this tit has taken that away from it. I really get why the travel industry is so pissed off. They can't even offer anything because they're at the governments (and other countries) whim.

This is a really personal question but it baffles me how people afford such luxurious holidays. My husband and I both work full time, his pay is pretty good, not huge but the bills are paid and we have a little bit left after the mortgage comes out. We don't have a busy lifestyle and the kids are both adults, at uni. I can't imagine being able to pay for a holiday without saving for a long time. We went to NY for my 40th and saved like crazy. I refuse to put a holiday on a credit card and I'm trying to pay those off.

There are so many different situations and priorities. Having kids or not also does a big difference. While many people have struggled during the pandemic, those for example who have quite good wages and used to go out a lot (restaurants, clubs, shops, gym, cinema....) have obviously saved A LOT of money while everything was closed.

My husbands train fares are stupidly expensive. His boss insists on him and his team being in the office. He WFH for about 6 weeks then was back in full time.

I just save like crazy so I always have a good amount if I ever want to go anywhere. Pandemic helped with that as well. People shouldn't ever compare finances though as everyone's situation is different.

You're right of course. If just bugs me that we earn good money and still can't go away when we'd like. First World problems I know and I'm incredibly grateful for the life that I have.

For amber this year though you still have to do the 2 mandatory tests on return so its not ideal.

Are the quarantine hotels at the airport? The airport staff were escorting travellers to their airports last year.

Very frustrating, can he find a closer job or one where he can work from home?

Well I've booked Greece for 7th of August hopefully won't go to Amber plus
We are due to go 19th after 2 previous moves (TUI so won’t refund and original holiday should have been May 2020) keeping everything crossed. Not that it matters for the quarantine it’s the cost of extra testing that’ll piss me off big time.

Every 3 weeks, the next is on Thursday Aug 5th although they did the last one a day early.
Thank you. My plan is hopefully to book days off just after they release it and book to go to a green list country straight away 🤞is it usually the next day it changes? So say 5th august they announce say Greece will be green it’ll be 4am(?) on 6th it changes?

We ended up doing a short break to the east Neuk of Fife. I used to spend my summers there. So much to do and not enough time x

I really want to go to Jordan and the tour I want to do fits in with my holidays I just booked. I doubt it’ll be on the green list though but I won’t be going to end of September 🤞

They tend to come into action the following Monday to allow travellers to make plans should they need to.
