It’s just suddenly occurred to me I had no idea Jada had alopecia until this incident. It’s done absolutely nothing to raise awareness of the condition to me, but I’ve learnt hellova lot about the Smiths’ marital arrangements, her affairs, and Smith’s previous form of being an arse.

I really feel that Denzel Washington was trying to calm the situation, saying the right things to calm it down. Of course will then decided to quote him in his speech which I doubt was the intention.
Will Smith has resigned to look better he knows he has royally fucked up. That video of the documentary winners they hug will & literally Chris rock just gets shoved back out if the way ( metaphorically not physically) he is not acknowledged at all. In his mind he is probably thinking well that's how it is,I give you your award & you hug him. Cheers.
Will Smith & his wife showex no remorse laughing at the slap & partying the night away. Jada is only invited for association, not on her own merit. Shocking behaviour. His or team are getting no sleep at present.
What I don't get is he was asked to leave said no so security went ok. How shit is that security so definitely don't think that happened. They just realized they look bad for not protecting Chris.
All in all a shocking example of privelige gone mad!

Shit like this is so manipulative. So we have to accept bad behaviour because if the perpetrator is made feel bad they will kill themselves!?? Wtf.
Their argument is so akin to the classic abusers trope of "if you'll leave I'll kill myself", I'm guessing the similarities are lost on the people who like these kinds of posts....

I hate all those #bekind twats. It's like you're not allowed an opinion anymore, with out someone writing #bekind.

Most of these nice guy images are carefully cultivated. Tom Hanks is another one who always gets lauded but I get weird vibes from him as well. I honestly think the only decent guy in Hollywood is Keanu ❤
You're forgetting Mark Ruffalo, Paul Rudd and Tom Holland.

I wonder what Will is feeling right now. Being a narcissist he must be absolutely fuming that the image he has built for over 20 years has come crumbling down around him, all because he couldn’t control himself - and on the most important night of his life! It’s totally over for him. He will probably still get roles but his image is destroyed now in the eyes of many. An image that was SO important to him. Once the academy ban him from attending future shows then others like BAFTA etc will follow suit. He has really fucked it for himself and being someone so image obsessed he must be fuming

Jeez, poor bloke. Felt for him even more in that clip 😔
And it's going to be online forever, haunting him. I felt his humiliation when he was standing there and it was horrible. Imagine what that's going to do to him. If you've ever been bullied or abused, you never forget what it feels like to be humiliated. You want to just disappear. It saddens me more that no one went up to him to ask if he was OK. Maybe they did off camera but I guess we can only judge what we see and it seems to me that Will got more hugs than Chris did.

That slap was not ok.. for will to them win an award & get clapped… I just find it tasteless having awards like this & gift bags etc, with what’s going on in the world.. just another day in the office for Hollywood

Seen a fair bit of social media (tumblr, Twitter) defending will and saying Chris rock basically deserved the slap. Coming from the corners of the internet where silence is violence, gender is a construct, live laugh love, it seems hypocritical as fuck. Ok so now any twat watching live comedy should go up and take out the comedian if they don’t like the jokes? So now you can be both a “vessel of love” and a thug, maybe win a few career accolades after committing an assault in front of your colleagues? Ffs.

Just imagine how Chris rock feels today. Pretty humiliated I should guess, we don’t even know if it was his joke or scripted, he’s been assaulted on live tv, security clearly didn’t give a shit and the perpetrator received a standing ovation.

I’d be devastated, it’s just not right. I hope someone is looking after him because that sort of humiliation could tip someone over the edge.

How do we think this will play out? I suspect there’s a lot going on behind the scenes. I bet Smith will have to come out and publicly apologise solely to CR but I’d like to see him arrested and the academy say something strong about this. They should at least publicly apologise to Chris too because NO ONE protected him at all. I’m not sure I’d have stood there after smith got a standing ovation I’d have something to say.

I can't stop watching it too. I had to leave my chair, it cut me deep, oh f off. 😂
It’s the swinging jaw for me and the fact he’s going from one fake accent to another, he even sounds Welsh at one point 😂 Maybe he’s doing that thing that Joey did in Friends and showing all the hot shot directors how versatile he is 🤣

Violence is never ok. As a previous poster said had he gone up and asked Chris to apologise to his wife then we would all have a different view today. Unfortunately Will ruined what should have possibly been one of the most monumental moments of his career there’s even chat now he might have to hand the Oscar back.
The aggression in his voice and eyes was scary when he was shouting afterwards. Chris Rock looked genuinely like he wanted help, how was there no security there? How was he allowed to just sit back down?! Even in a shitty nightclub somewhere you’d be kicked out for that behaviour.
No one is talking about Will Smith winning an Oscar this morning.

I’m really disgusted with everyone (celebs, non-celebs) who is defending Smith. Everyone’s crying saying “oh Harvey Weinstein” etc etc, you can be disgusted about both, when I express disgust about Smith I fail to see why my opinion on Weinstein is relevant (obviously I think he’s a horrendous human). Really grinding my gear, just saw footage of him partying with his Oscar, yes the joke was in poor taste, but so were the hundreds of jokes Will made about Uncle Phil’s weight on Fresh Prince? Don’t remember him getting a slap in return?

Equally disgusted with those who gave him a standing ovation when he won the Oscar, who are incidentally some of the ones who allowed Weinstein to get his Oscars. It also just sends a bad message- unless you have been physically attacked there is no excuse for doing that, regardless whether someone “deserves” it. Lots of people probably “deserve” a slap- do we do it? Absolutely not because it’s against the law.

I’m still intrigued by the Academy “investigating” the incident over several weeks. WTF are they investigating that would longer than rolling the video a couple of times?
Exactly, we all SAW what happened. I am disgusted that Will was allowed to party afterwards. Whether the joke touched a nerve or not, what Will did was show the world that unchecked violence was “ok” - a terrible message. He’s clearly unwell also, beause he was LAUGHING first then flipped in an instance. Very scary behaviour.

I can’t help but think this is the beginning of the end of the Hollywood elite culture to be honest. If the slap had not happened most of us would not have realised the awards show was happening. Award shows used to be talked about for weeks after, with celebs adored unconditionally. Now, we see privilege, unchecked anger, unchecked egos, special treatment etc and I think the public are starting to wise up.

I think the public mood wouldn’t be as hostile towards Will if he has gone home after the ceremony and not celebrated and partied, rapping to his own songs like a goofy doofus. I would think that maybe he regrets his actions and is feeling some kind of shame, but the way he paraded himself about and celebrated himself all evening tells me his apology is just damage control following the public mood, and it rings hollow when he didn’t seem to give a fuck in the hours after the assault.
