I don't think anything will change much for will. He has too much money and power. Give it time and the seriousness of this will be forgotten and Chris will probably hug it out with him on a chat show in a few months and laugh about it all. You know it will all be about will and his feelings though.
I don’t think so, I think he has fucked it. People had really bought into him as a person. He wasn’t some actor like Bardem or Bradley Cooper who just act for a living and then live in relative privacy, Will was all about being present and accessible to the public at all times. He used to give feckin sermons on Instagram and people looked up to him and took his word as the gospel according to Will. It wasn’t just his ‘skill’ as an actor that was a draw to the public, but who he happened to be and how he presented himself. His image is now tarnished beyond repair. Reputation can take years to build but be destroyed in seconds. I think he’s done.

The Will Smith fans on twitter are a disgrace. They are trying to smear Carrey and Zoe Kravitz and making terribly racist comments about Zoe.
Many of these comments are being made by African Americans.. if these disgusting comments were made by white people they would rightfully be called white supremacists/racist nights. Appalling stuff

As for Chris Rock, he’s a comedian in the Jimmy Carr vein for goodness sake. If you’re not the butt of his jokes you’re laughing hard at him. His schtick was tame compared to the stuff Ricky Gervais pounded out at the GGs. He’ll come out of this very well.
My first thought was Ricky Gervais hosting, he really goes for it. In any other situation someone slapping/punching would have been removed, but it's celebville where you can get away with anything. Will be interesting to see whose career is damaged most.

‘black twitter’ as they like to call themselves are an absolute mess atm. Trashing anyone who dares speak up for chris rock, esp if they aren’t black.

Sorry but they are the absolute worst and then have the nerve to call other people racist.

now i don’t like jodie turner smith but the abuse she has recieved over her comments is a disgrace. Telling her to sit her ass down cause she proposed to a white man… and saying horrible things about her mixed race child.

can you imagine if it was a white actor that had slapped chris rock!?
Thing is I can understand black people being defensive because there is always the type of white people who will use any wrongdoing by a black person to generalise about the character of black people in general. So therefore there is a natural inclination to jump to go on the defensive when a black person is being criticised. BUT …. the problem is if you take that too far and start defending the clearly indefensible and calling racism in a situation which had nothing to do with race, then you start becoming severely counterproductive and end up looking just like the type of racist individuals you seek to oppose.

The fact is that, just like white people, not all black people are nice, some are downright unpleasant and sometimes they do bad things. And it is not being racist to call out a black person for doing a bad thing just the same way that a white person who did the same bad thing would be criticised. Because there is no doubt that if a white actor had done the same thing as Will Smith he too would be receiving a shedload of negative responses.

Not everything is down to race. Sometimes people of all colours do bad things and when they do they deserve to be held to account. Pretending otherwise is simply not a valid stance. I think those who are calling people racist for criticising WS should ask themselves would they be defending a white actor for slapping Chris Rock. Unless their honest answer is yes then I think they need to recognise that this is not about racism it’s about somebody doing something that is indefensible.

Exactly, we all SAW what happened. I am disgusted that Will was allowed to party afterwards. Whether the joke touched a nerve or not, what Will did was show the world that unchecked violence was “ok” - a terrible message. He’s clearly unwell also, beause he was LAUGHING first then flipped in an instance. Very scary behaviour.

I can’t help but think this is the beginning of the end of the Hollywood elite culture to be honest. If the slap had not happened most of us would not have realised the awards show was happening. Award shows used to be talked about for weeks after, with celebs adored unconditionally. Now, we see privilege, unchecked anger, unchecked egos, special treatment etc and I think the public are starting to wise up.
Yeah, and celebrities have been undermining that elite celeb culture on social for for years now. Public images were so tightly controlled in the past, the unwashed masses never saw them apart from looking gorgeous on award shows and in scripted interviews and as you say they were adored from afar and really seen as these special, gifted and uniquely amazing human beings. Now they’re yapping away on Twitter and insta all the time, and it’s much easier to spot shallowness and narcissism and see them as folk who absolutely have no better - and quite often much worse - ideas on how to live life than the rest of us.

You’d honestly think Will attacked/beat up Chris the way social media are (unsurprisingly) behaving. Banning Will would be the best outcome but surely they can’t do anything else otherwise it would be unfair.
What show were you watching, he did attack Chris.

He did not assault Gervais either nor the other comedians who made jokes about Jada and August Alsina. This was definitely misplace aggression when Will initially laughed at the joke. The joke wasn’t even that bad because everyone thought GI Jane was badass. 🤷🏾‍♀️
Yeh I mean Demi Moore was at peak of her career and ultimate babe status when she made GI Jane. I don’t see it as an insulting joke at all.

so I'm not sure that she'd be that impressed by what he did anyway.
I just noticed that she's grinning like the cat that got the cream during his speech when he was crying. I guess she wanted to look supportive, but it looks like she's happy he brought all the drama.

really?
I was thinking about Jada’s “Talk show”. She basically has someone film her family talk about their problems whilst sitting around the table in their home and then posts it online. I mean WTAF, that is a whole new level of hubris and ego thinking people are that interested in your life. But then expecting because you post videos on a social media site that everyone knows your issues. How fucking egotistical is she? It’s not exactly a globally syndicated talk show. Does she not get people have a lot going on in their lives?

I’m seriously blown away by both of their arrogance and egotism. Let’s face it Jada, being the butt of the joke is the only way you’ll get mentioned at the Oscar’s because your acting is shit.
I’ve been saying this to my husband for a while. The Smiths were ‘famous enough’. They didn’t need to spill every secret about their lives. Will Smith didn’t *need* to write his book. There was no reason for any of it other than pure greed and ego.

I just want Hollywood to end. They have run out of stories now, it's all nepotism and people not living in the real world. Burn Hollywood to the ground and start with new talent who are from the real world.

These people clearly think they are above the law and morals while bleating onto the rest of us how we need to be better people.

Fuck Will Smith, Leto, Polanski, Allen all the other abusers and bullies and everyone that supports them.

They’ve both shown themselves to be pricks tbh. Comedians like Peter Kay manage to be funny without insulting people. I wonder if she’d lost her hair because of chemo would people still think it was fair game?
And Will Smith lost an opportunity to wipe the floor with Rock during his acceptance speech, imagine if he’d defended his wife’s honour with words instead of his fists, he’d be hailed as a hero. Bet he’s sorry he fucked it 🤦🏼‍♀️

I’m not a fan of Will Smith and think the way he behaved at the Oscars was reprehensible but I really do think that he has been controlled, coerced and belittled by Jade for a long time. He really does look like someone who has been suffering from long-term abuse.

Personally I think it comes down to if CR know about Jada's alopecia if he did then yes he was out of order but no excuse to get a smack in the face for it. If Jada was sooo annoyed why didn't she shout 'its called alopecia you jackass' or something?

I mean Ricky Gervais said worse about Caitlyn Jenner.

I remember a commenter once said years ago “the Smith children weren’t raised, they were unleashed to the world” aka the Smiths devoted their childhood to preparing them for stardom and reflecting well back on their parents.

for a long time I’ve felt something was very off with Jada. Years ago I saw her doing a music interview for some metal band she was in, and they never took off. I remember thinking she was never as successful as Will, her acting/music career always dwarfed next to his. I don’t think we’d know much about her if she hadn’t latched onto, firstly Tupac and then Will Smith. Will smith’s music is iconic. His TV roles are iconic. His film roles are iconic. But Jada? Not so much. I can’t think of a single song released by her. Any movies I’ve seen, her acting is poor and cringey.

my gut feeling is telling me she’s the driver behind curating this perfect image and the extreme toxicity that revolves around this family.

1. she slept with her sons friend. Regardless of the age gap, that’s crossing many, many boundaries. If Will had slept with his young daughters friend, he’d be seen as a creep.
2. She essentially gas-lit Will and the general public during that red table talk, which basically felt like PR damage control for Jada’s image, when she trivialised it as an “entanglement” and romanticised staying in a marriage where she’d been unfaithful. She claimed during this talk that they were on a break at the time, but frankly I don’t buy that. The whole talk felt forced, and designed to be favourable to Jada, and raised more Qs than it made sense.
3. The smiths later come out and say there are “no surprises” alluding to their marriage being open - if that’s the case then why did Will look like a broken man? Why frame the sleeping-with-your-sons-friend as some mistake/ ok because you were separated anyway, if your marriage is open?
4. Wills book. It reads like a broken man. His wife comparing him to Tupac. His children calling Tupac their 2nd father or something to that effect. It reads like he was mentally, in a vulnerable place and susceptible to abuse. It reads (unintentionally) as if Jada has been mentally keeping him down and abusing him. Because his self esteem is low he isn’t even aware of it.

willow and Jayden themselves seem utterly lost. A few years ago Jayden looked positively unwell and frequently comes out with weird conspiracy theories. Willow shaved her head onstage and recently had to pull out of a tour.

the only member of that family who doesn’t appear to be struggling is Jada. For years rumours were that their marriage was open and now they’ve pretty much confirmed that. Well, now the rumours are that Jada is coercive and emotionally abusive. Time will tell.
100% love what you have written !!!!!!
agree whole heartedly!!!! I believe with this incident he found it funny she said something while the camera pans away and then will snaps !!! She probably gaslighted him abs called him a Pussy or something and to save face jumped up!!!
I think they are in the deep weird depths of Hollywood!!! Not only is Jada a coercive abuser but they are Scientologists, visited Epstein island and I think there is sooooo much more weird shit to this family we can’t even fathom!!!

Chris joke was very very insensitive but comedy has always been very contraversial , but imagine Kanye came out swinging like this he would have been forcefully removed!!!!! And charges pressed !!!

both at fault but what a headline they all have now 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️
