Oh wow, there’s a side to Will we haven’t seen before.

I really like him, he’s one of my favourite actors. Very odd move though. I’m sure they’ve faced worse than this before, there are constant rumours about their marriage. I guess it only takes one off night for someone to become a… Bad Boy (sorry).

Whats the betting he'll go to rehab for stress/nervous exhaustion or something, thats what usually happens, to protect his image. He's truly fucked himself doing that.

I'm a man and had hair loss from a very young age, it was hell, I finally thought sod it, I'll just shave it all off (just as jada) and from that point I owned it (just as jada) no joke or comments offended me, Because I own it, I dont go around acting like it's a disability (due to male pattern baldness or by anxiety)
If anything she's making a mockery out of people who truly suffer from alopecia, the average person doesn't have millions of dollars in the bank to strut around being who ever you want to be.

The older and wiser you get the more you realise celebrities don’t live in the real world. The fact so many applauded and laughed at someone being physically assaulted on stage infront of the world pretty much, shows how out of touch they are. Who’s to say Rock knew about Jadas condition? When can comedians not be comedians? They have always been offensive.. always. Does it mean that every time a comedian makes a below the belt joke, someone can walk upto them and assault them? That’s not how you handle your sh*t.

it also shows how powerful the Smith family are and how many people are scared to call them out. Its a glimpse into how powerful people on Hollywood get away with things others wouldn’t. You can see how crazy sh*t like Weinstein goes down for years and years. They all want connections and jobs, at any cost. Not comparing the two but this was so visible and so openly accepted, what about the hidden stuff. Scary.

Also... Liam Payne WTF?!? I watched a interview with him from 9 months ago and he had a Wolverhampton accent, so what was that?

Surely Will Smith must have had a couple of lines of the white stuff to make him act like that? The casual walk up, the slap, the smirk, the unhinged swearing, the crying & comparing himself to a prophet in his speech, the arrogance walking into the after party, the hyped up dancing & throughout it all the total disregard that he had done anything wrong! It's just bizarre!

Has Chris Rock actually released any sort of statement?

I don't agree with that, Will specifically went nuts at the Oscars, live on TV and in front of his peers, he caused disgrace and embarrassment to the Academy.

Smith wouldn't have got near the stage if Ricky had been hosting.

Disentangling

So glad there’s a thread for this - wtaf?! I thought it was a staged skit moment til the unhinged shouting started.

Will Smith was laughing along though whilst Jada’s face was upset so it feels weird that it escalated so quickly?

What I don't understand is why people can't accept that the joke was perhaps insensitive and poor (and that's understandable, certain jokes don't work for everyone) but that Will shouldn't have assaulted the guy. The main excuse I've seen on Twitter, other than the weird 'omg he cares about his wife so much!' crowd, is that it was acceptable because the joke was bad

I do think it's weird that Will laughed at the joke, the camera cut, and then suddenly he's walking to the stage. I wonder if Jada did say something to him about it - though her reaction said a lot too. Granted, hardly gives him a good reason to be hitting someone

The fact that he felt it was acceptable to hit someone in front of so many people and cameras is also concerning. I've seen some refer to his crying speech as gaslighting which I found interesting

I dont think he should lose his Oscar compared to much more despicable Oscar winners.
But the reason the uproar is excessive is that we witnessed his chosen, planned action. He has violated our senses if you know what I mean. We're reacting because he was then applauded for his anger, and then danced the night away like a proud man.

If he'd said at his speech "I fxxked up, I'm sorry..and I'm sorry to Chris Rock..." then I'd give him a break, but instead he tried to martyr himself.

Years ago comedians used to openly talk about Will being gay on the DL, same with Jamie Fox.

I was listening to some Americans with a podcast yesterday, that know Chris well and they were insinuating Chris thought about outing him for a second in the moment after Will has finished shouting from his seat you hear Chris say “well i could…OHHH okay…” he catches himself and stops what he wants to say as he shakes his head.

If Will picked on a different kind of comedian on a different night who doesn’t have the class Chris has and didn’t care society has moved on from “outing people” the whole thing could have escalated.

I will definitely not watch anything with Will Smith in it again. His behaviour was totally unacceptable, but his carry on afterwards just as bad. The self righteous speech, partying & hollow apologies later only cement that he felt above consequence.

I understand the comments about other celebrities but these are rumours & not behaviours witnessed so really it is not comparable. But even if you do compare, shouldn't we draw the line somewhere & say enough? Rather than so & so did something worse so he's alright? Bad actions shouldn't be justified by other bad actions?

I also think the whole "discussing it over the red table" stinks. Making money and / or exposure over this is really exploiting the situation & it's all trying to make him the victim. And that pissed me off.
