It's crazy to me that this woman seems to be emotionally abusing her husband on an international stage, and the media is happy to go along with it. The very soft denials about his sexuality and the nature of their relationship just serves to fan the flames of speculation more, and she knows this. Why continue to humiliate him a year and a half after the event and six months after even Chris Rock spoke his piece?

I think Will and Jada need to get a grip. Comedians make jokes that can offend people, just caught it off and move on. It's a sad state of affairs when comedians can't make jokes anymore.

How do you know Will Smith is "usually really calm?".
You have absolutely no idea what he is really like, none of us do.

You said previously something along the lines of it being good he stuck up for his wife. Personally im glad my partner has never resorted to punching/hitting someone to "defend" my honour; in fact i would be absolutely mortified if anyone felt the need to be violent towards someone else in order to defend me.
The other thing, Jada talks so much about being a strong independent woman blah blah blah, im pretty sure she could have stuck up for herself given the narrative she likes to spin about herself. Not only that, if you have seen the film Rock is referring to- Demi Moore is a fucking queen in it and is actually all the things Jada likes to say she is!
The worst thing for me was the way Will Smith strutted back to his seat after he hit Rock. And then continued to shout at him, he knew exactly what he was doing.

The overall tone (from Jada) may be jovial and it's not such a bad thing, healing and I wanted to feel good for the first time in a long time, blah blah blah, but it's clear Will was very upset about it and it's all about how SHE feels.

You can even see it in his eyes, he looks upset, tired, not at all happy, even though he laughs along with her. He tells her that he thought they were OVER after that, but he seems to have wanted her back.

As one commenter on Youtube says, she has the cheek to call him petty.

Another sums it up as, Here I'll translate "I cheated, I enjoyed it, I felt good, here's why I wasn't wrong"

Yes, I mean these are the most privileged, elite, pampered people in the universe. It’s not like Joe Bloggs can buy a ticket. I don’t think anything could have been done to stop the assault.

The problem for the Academy is that they should have done something immediately afterwards. He absolutely should have been removed from the premises and someone could have collected his award for him. He should not have been allowed back on the stage or given time to give his insipid little speech. They should have issued an immediate apology to Chris Rock. By not acting faster they have created all manner of problems for themselves.

This absolutely... the guy not only physically assaulted someone , but he did it live publicly. I'm sure this has had a very negative impact on CR mental health. It must have been a scary moment and noone stepped in to assist ... security should have been on this straight away and escorted WS out. If this was Joe Public charging up on stage... all hell would have kicked off. The guy is clearly a loose canon and a danger to others. He could have easily knocked CR backwards causing possible head trauma... or even worse.

Yes WS does need cancelling.... actions have consequences !! The guy is a conceited violent arrogant knob.

I really don't get why people are defending him, other than the fact he's Will Smith, and i hate whataboutism but if that had been a white man do that, the internet would not be as split as they are. (for good reason)

Google for a start. Case against Carrey was dismissed in a California Court. The family of his quite frankly scientology obsessed deceased ex tried to sue him but it was pure bullshit.

Anything the Academy do now is just pandering to the outrage. They showed where their loyalties lay when they let him assault a man on stage without as much as one security man intervening, gave him an Oscar and then facilitated in any celebration towards him that evening. They won’t be able to take the Oscar from him because he won it fair and square, but they should ban him from attending any Oscars for the next five years.

I think I'm naive and I don't want to offend anyone, but I don't understand is why 'black twitter' aren't supporting Chris Rock? Will Smith a black man hit Chris Rock a black Man? I can't understand what's racist about supporting Chris? I'm just confused about it all.

If I were a 53yo man who assaulted someone on live TV, if I was truly remorseful, I would have taken my sad, pathetic, raging arse home. Do not pass Go, do not go to the after party. A lot of comedians have come out now to defend CR and say that is their worst nightmare, some say they have been assaulted at shows and management does nothing. Jim Carrey is right, CR should sue him because this incident is now a meme and he will now have PTSD from this. This is humilation on a worldwide scale.

The Oscars is a live show with a 7 second delay to preempt swearing. I saw it live and they muted the swearing, but it was easy to lip read what was being said. My eyes felt assaulted by watching this happen. I wonder if there is a lawyer ready with a class action lawsuit now. During WS's acceptance speech, the footage kept being interfered with the title card popping up randomly, which was weird.

For those who wonder why there wasn't security detail in the theatre, it's an awards show where adults 99.9% of the time know how to behave themselves. Up until now, the worst was a streaker not the talent assaulting a presenter.
