I don’t understand why he was asked to leave instead of ordered to? If he says no then get security and turf him out. Why did he have all the power? Would they have accepted a regular Joe’s refusal to leave? Or had them escorted out by force? I definitely think there was a bit of fangirling going on behind the scenes. They were too afraid of upsetting big star Will Smith and so let him stay because the academy has no balls. He absolutely has brought the whole event into disrepute. It was waining anyway in recent times but he has made a once classy ceremony look trashy, but tbh that’s not all him. The Academy have brought themselves into disrepute by how they responded to the situation. Will is responsible for the violence but it is The Academy who are responsible for hosting him after it and not throwing him out. They too have a part to play in this and are also responsible for their reputation taking a dive. Hard to believe this is the same event that once hosted Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn. It’s all so trashy now.

There is no black privilege. If Will Smith had smacked a white comedian, he would’ve been escorted out, his career would be over and he wouldn’t have the Oscar. The people in charge do not care because he slapped another black man. Society is more desensitised to black on black crime as we are all conditioned to think that this is the “norm.” Hence why when white teens or Asian teens stab/shoot their peers (which occurs often), it is not widely reported to bless there is a major class difference. 🤷‍♀️
I don’t believe that to be true at all. I think if he slapped a white comedian people would be justifying it even further and commending him for defending his wife against an attack from a straight white male or whatever.

The most disgusting thing in it all for me is seeing will bopping away with his award without a care in the world after such a vulgar display of arrogance and violence on a global stage, and shame on every single hypocrite who applauded him, defended him or partied with him. Where the fuck was security? Chris was just left to pick up the pieces from what happened while in total shock and there wasn’t a security man to be seen to help him de escalate the situation

I think most people agree that the ‘joke’ was unfunny and insensitive and Jayda had every right to take offence - but that Will’s reaction was massively disproportionate and he made a fool of himself and just exposed Hollywood for the hypocritical idiots they are

Shit like this is so manipulative. So we have to accept bad behaviour because if the perpetrator is made feel bad they will kill themselves!?? Wtf.
Their argument is so akin to the classic abusers trope of "if you'll leave I'll kill myself", I'm guessing the similarities are lost on the people who like these kinds of posts....

Looooook, new angle, is Jada laughing all the way through the slap and then Chris after toooooooo?????
Does she think it's a joke until Will starts his rant? (Although she laughs at Chris' attempts to joke it off)

Watching Chris trying to continue about the next Oscar category makes me feel sick, he stood there being a professional ALONE😟

ETA- so Will was asked to leave by the academy, he didn't leave and yet those 🤬ing actors stood up and applauded his speech.

Initially I thought it was set up between CR & WS, genuinely thought it was an act. Then it all kicked off & thought...maybe not!

The joke; you could say it was even a compliment. If there was to be another GI Jane, JS looks fantastic and perhaps CR pointed the powers that be towards a strong black woman who could take on that role. Granted its unlikely this was his angle but you choose whether to be offended or embrace the comment.
Guess the Smiths weren't in agreement with each other, the host or the audience.
If the Smiths were angry with CR then they were equally as offended by every single audience member who also laughed 🤷‍♀️

I don't think CR should feel embarrassed or ashamed. WS was an embarrassment. It was a night he should have enjoyed, a major achievement in his career and he blew it. CR stood strong, without retaliation and that speaks volumes. Not of weakness. People saying he looked lost like a child, like a victim of his past.
He did look incredibly shocked. Did he perhaps have an earpiece in that the producers could reassure him to continue, all was being dealt with, I don't know.
WS should definitely have been escorted off the premises and the Oscar committee themselves should be considering pressing charges, its hardly like they don't have any evidence.
He can keep the Oscar as a momento of the night he pissed on his own parade.
Nasty man!

"Personally I thought his best performance in the past year has been being ok with all of his wife’s boyfriends". Rebel Wilson

"Will's son Jaden Smith, 23, tweeted: 'And That's How We Do It' after his father's on-stage altercation."

- See what you did there Will 'Dad of the Year' Smith
God, I cannot stand Jaden Smith.

I think we are seeing the fallout of whatever has been building up behind closed doors. I think Will exploded after being/feeling humiliated, I don't agree with his reaction at all, maybe the joke was a bit on the low side, but I take Ricky Gervais stance on humour:

"Please stop saying "You can't joke about anything anymore". You can. You can joke about whatever the fuck you like. And some people won't like it and they will tell you they don't like it. And then it's up to you whether you give a fuck or not. And so on. It's a good system."

All the "it's a medical condition called alopecia" ppl need to chill, that just means hairloss.
Someone like trump was always having jokes said about his silly hair style and I never once heard anyone say that was unacceptable. Looks ridiculous saying some people are fair game to joke about their hair but others are totally offlimits. Either all are or none are, yous can't pick n choose!¡

I really fail to understand why people think the joke was in poor taste. What is wrong with looking like GI Jane and Chris didn't mention anything about alopecia

There must be footage somewhere between him laughing and storming the stage ffs!!! When are we going to see the missing seconds we haven't been shown?

The old Hollywood tradition of celebrities being “roasted” has gone on for decades. It’s often (usually) distasteful - Will Smith must be aware of this?
Will Smith has shown himself up to be one piece of work. I am just shocked that security didn’t eject him immediately.

My husband and I watched the Fresh Prince of Belair reunion a fortnight ago. The original Aunt Vivian was brought on, who famously lost her role after falling out with Will Smith on set. They sit together and she says why did you ruin me. I lost everything. No one would touch me. It was public knowledge she was disruptive on set. Apparently she was in a troubled relationship and Will ensured she was fired. Both my husband and I remarked how he must have a not so nice side. She apologised first and only then did he. It was very awkward to watch.

It would be interesting to know how Katie Holmes managed to get out and with her daughter too. As far as I’m aware Nicole Kidmam still has no relationship with her eldest kids
I read an article years ago giving the details that sounded plausible. It was all organised by her father, her parents are devout Catholics and they basically sat back and waited until she was ready to leave. Then they planned it secretly together for months in advance, in particular having Katie registered as a NYC resident (I think it was seen as the best place JIC there was a custody battle) then when everything was set up she literally just picked Suri up got out of one car and quickly into another with security provided for by her father who then acted as a buffer between her and Tom/Scientology.
By all accounts it wasn't that easy by that point she was surrounded by Toms staff, all Scientology members, the woman must have nerves of steel!

Seen some chatter on twitter that this sends the message that words have consequences, people are so used to being able to say what they want when in real life they'd get a box in the mouth.
Um no! Thats not what we do, we can't go around using our fists that too has consequences.
I think the silence and applause after speaks volumes, celebrities feel they shouldn't be ridiculed. Could that be it?

Plastic and hair transplant surgeon Dr Gary Linkov, (he has alopecia and there is not a hair on his head), has made an interesting Youtube video about Jada's alopecia in the past. He focuses specifically on the perfectly neat, completely bald line on her scalp. He heavily intimates that this is as a result of a face lift. No doubt she has traction alopecia. I have alopecia too and it is grim but...

If my husband defended me in this manner I would seriously reconsider my future.

Chris missed an opportunity to reply that haha

WS’s reaction wasn’t a sudden explosion in CR’s face- there are a good few heartbeats between the joke and WS’s response.
He chose to stride up to the stage and hit him.
That reminds me of violent men I’ve known who don’t immediately blow their tops. They let that anger fizz, just for a moment before unleashing it all.
