Honestly! Why does ‘letting kids be kids’ mean letting them walk around with a sodden nappy, untidy hair and filth covering every possible place filth could cover?! (Slight exaggeration there)
My kids are kids. I let them be kids. They believe in Santa, can’t wait for the Easter bunny to come, they have minimal knowledge of the dangers of the world, their biggest issue most days is whether or not I’m going to make them try something new to eat at dinner time, they play, have fun, enjoy cuddles and kisses and treats.
That’s kids being kids.
Mine just happen to do it with faces that are regularly wiped down, clothes that are changed if they get filthy, hair that is brushed and bodies that are bathed.
Jesus, if I knew letting kids have a childhood was as simple as doing fuck all towards their personal hygiene I could’ve saved myself a lot of time and effort.
