It’s definitely aimed at people in their 20-30s. Those knitted tops were quite on trend (especially on TikTok) in autumn. Patterned knits were everywhere especially on places like Zara and asos. I myself as a 25 year old have a blue knitted cardigan covered in oranges because I do like the trend.

I think they think they’re doing a great job targeting younger millenial women, but they often post things which are out of touch or seen as frivolous to most people in their demographic!

I also think a lot of what they post can be found on similar websites that are also targeted at women that age. But because it’s coming from a YouTubers brand it just seems awkward & out of place.
Yes all those 20-30 years who need to be told to wash their slippers in preparation for autumn 🥴🥴🥴😂 it’s poorly written and tries to do it all rather than having a USP. I think some things do seem similar to other websites aimed at 20-30 year olds but the thing as a whole just seems so cringe and try hard. And they have to push zoe tit like the magpie books which are clearly aimed at young teens.

It’s crazy to me how she wouldn’t *want* to treat her anxiety properly. I had severe anxiety and saw a psychologist for 24 sessions and it was serious hard work but I managed to recover completely and now anxiety doesn’t effect me anymore. I went from being unable to leave my house to working a full time job. She’s not even seeing a proper psychologist which is crazy to me because she can afford to (which she’s very lucky to have the luxury of as many people can’t afford therapy they need). In the UK, anyone can do a counselling course and become a counsellor - but it takes 5 years of uni to become a psychologist (including a Masters) and they’re highly skilled. I know she’s lazy and probably can’t be bothered to do the work but if anxiety effects her as much as she says, why would she not want to work to get rid of it? Like I said, it took me 24 sessions to get rid of the majority of my anxiety difficulties. Five years with no progress is ridiculous and her ‘therapist’ is very unethical in the fact she continues to see her, when it’s clearly not working. Any decent professional would be evaluating it and saying “I need to refer you to someone more specialist”, but she’s clearly just in it for the easy money.
Depressing really, that she’s content to fester in her house with severe anxiety, when there’s so much more to life that she could be experiencing, and chooses not to.
I don't think its really about her being lazy, it's probably because a real psychologist would push her to try new things and tackle the things which make her anxious. It's probably a fear thing of not wanting to have to go through the hard part. Who she see's now just lets her get away with avoiding the problems, but keeps telling her she's doing great, which suits her fear.

Oh 100% I agree, more than half of the stuff they post is absolute rit & none of it suits who Zoe is, and it doesn't make sense for her brand to try so hard to be a website like cosmo!

They did have a pool, exactly like that one.. I have no idea what happened to that one but why buy a completely new pool that’s exactly the same as one you’ve already got? (That’s if they still have the one from a few years ago..) honestly, they’ve got more money than sense!
How do we know it’s not the same pool though?
I remember them saying they gave it away to their neighbours who have kids but then regretted it lol

Yeah it’s so jarring with who she is as a person!!

This is very true, psychologists don’t sugarcoat things and they absolutely push you out of your comfort zone. But her therapist should recognise that Zoe is doing this and therefore making no progress whatsoever, and should be exploring this with her and helping to gently push her, otherwise what’s the point of the whole thing?
The whole YouTube video also breaks so many ethical boundaries and no proper psychologist would be allowed to do that. But because she’s just a counsellor, she doesn’t have to stick to the strict rules that psychologists do.

Quick guys on the Zoella IG you can win a copy of the paperback Magpies society. All you have to do is use three emojis to describe the book. Ok here are mine...:poop::poop:

The clothing, sure. I'd wear some of it, and I'm Zoe's age. But exactly what 20-30 year old living in the Western world needs Zoella's help locating their clitoris? Followed a few weeks later with an article on surrogacy? And a list on how to make the most of the month of May that included ridiculous not-funny yet-thinks-its-funny tit like "only attend daytime functions" ?

I feel like it reads even younger than 20. It's like an elder millenial trying to get in with the TikTok generation. It's super embarrassing. They pretend to be cutting edge but everything feels like they're trying to catch up to Cosmo or actually Teen Vogue. So now that I think of it, it does feel a bit Zoe: super try-hard.

Sometimes I feel the site looks like a Yr9/10 media project and the students in question have used a combination of Cosmo,Heat or if you’re a certain age More magazine articles mixed in with more junior stuff like Mizz and smash hits etc. They’re putting in the sex stuff to try and be edgy like 00’s teens felt when they bought their first Cosmo or More but in fact it’s just a bit cringe.

My fave discussion was cutlery-gate
Was it a slow day on tattle back then?

I think we were all winners when some random person came over to the Zoe thread and just posted a picture of their cat tbh. Can we bring that back instead :')

Her website is soooo awful. I hate it so much when people try to be funny with puns and word play but aren’t smart enough to make them witty and understandable. Zoe’s stupid employees (bc we know Zoe isn’t writing these articles) are super unfunny and cringey and try hard. I get second hand embarrassment from reading the tit they spew out and I rarely get embarrassed for myself!!! But they manage it for me.

bleeping losers, the whole lot of them. The only one connected to Zoella that I like is Napa ( and sometimes mark).

What is it about Zoe threads and people having medical discussions?
Ugh I know. I don’t mind a personal story/post of information here and there, but when it turns into a conversation, I end up skipping so many posts and pages.

this is my first comment ever but this spoke to me so much. It’s like they have read all of that and attempted to put it into 2021, but it’s failed. She’s not a regular person with regular anxiety. She’s only ever done YouTube as a living really so no wonder she hates the outside lol

Just my personal opinion, but based on what I can tell, it sounds like she is trying to update and grow her content without growing her writing/style of delivering.

If the zoella site is used to talking down to children who would need/enjoy any advice from zoella including wash your slippers for autumn or whatever, then they changed the topics to be more grown up but continued to speak down to their audience like they are still little kids who will hang off of her every word and know nothing about the world.

If they really want to transition fully to an older audience of young adults, they need to write for an audience who understands the world as a young adult does compared to a child. TBH I wonder if she and her "team' have trouble doing that because she never grew up and stays in her mansion all the time. She doesn't know what it's like to become an adult and understand the world more completely or have content that respects your intelligence rather than talking down to you.

I also think that hiring people who are actually writers / journalists / etc. Would help. I guess those people wouldn’t want a job at Zoella, but if you think of something like R29 (which I guess they’re kind of aiming for) they have some very strong articles by good writers. I get the feeling none of the people working at ‘Zoella HQ’ ever had to write content before...
