Please stop texting me about inane shite on my first weekend off in nearly a month.

I hate how texting culture requires you to be 'on call' 24/7.
I’m guilty of sending texts to people at odd hours, but hope they wouldn’t notice unless they were already asleep. I’ve felt the same with siblings if I already knew they were having a hard time. I had to reply almost instantly.

I personally found turning off all notifications very helpful. My brother also tends to spend time in WhatsApp archives.

Everytime I visit my parents, I go back to my flat and reek of smoke. Fair enough, it's their house, but it just makes me think, did I smell like this my entire childhood? It's actually bogging and so irritating having to wash everything I own when I get home.

My god I get this one! I’m selling some bits at the minute and I’ve decided to just donate stuff to a charity shop. People asking for measurements of clothing and if they can try it on. No, it’s 3 quid, just take the thing!
I posted something out last week and said it would be a tenner to post, just cause I didn’t want to get to the post office to find out how much it was, then message the lady again to see if she was happy to pay the exact amount. Anyway it ended up costing 8 quid to post, and she sent me her bank details and asked to have the 2 pounds refunded! duck offfffff
Its just so frustrating. Im selling things which are quite expensive but i would rather give them away than absolutely bend myself over for some chancer on fb! I should try the technique the man at the garage did on me when i tried to knock him down on price... he said if thats your budget maybe this isnt the car for you, and pointed me at a micra 🤣 savage!

We could be the same person. Like I realise now when I was a kid suffering from glue ear and second hand smoke causes it and like they didn’t care they made me sick? I’ve got a daughter now and I hate to see her sick like most parents and absolutely would change my ways if it helps. Or when they buy stuff for her and it reeks of smoke. Clothes not so bad as obviously can be washed but things like books and bags I’ve had to bin because I couldn’t get the smell out 😬 my house stinks after they’ve visited too and have to open all the windows to air it out.

Sorry you had to go through that. I get it's an addiction, though you're right, when kids get involved surely that's enough in itself to either stop, or at least go outside? I'm lucky that one parent quit 5 years ago, but what's worse is that the other hasn't followed suit... So parent one has to live with it 😐

I've got covid. I managed to avoid it since it started but it finally caught up with me. I feel like absolute crap. The worst part (for me at least) is that I live on my own so I have no one to moan to about feeling crap and no one to hold my hand and tell me I'll feel better soon. I'm just wallowing in my own self pity. 😞
Oh no - hope you’re on the mend soon. I got it last summer and have never felt so poorly. It’s awful.

I deliberately sought out this thread as I feel RAWR.

I take care of my mother. I do the cleaning, pay bills, get her food. I take care of her medical stuff and buy her birthday, mother's day, Xmas and Easter presents, frequently get her flowers.

My sibling does ZILCH.

Only this morning I was looking into some medical equipment and booking Sunday lunch for tomorrow.

I just had a phone call from her saying not to upset my sibling. The last contact I had with them was to ask what they wanted for their birthday, hardly death threats or abusive.

I am hopping mad and tempted to abandon Sunday lunch tomorrow.
I really do feel for you. I cared for both my late parents and, despite doing it with love and very willingly, it’s a huge commitment and responsibility. I’m an only child but am very lucky as my husband shared their care with me equally.

An acquaintance who had several siblings all living within an hours drive of their mother, had to temporarily put her life on hold and come back to the UK from TEXAS!! to care for her mum as the siblings refused point blank to drive for 50 minutes help out. Unbelievable really.

I felt so bad for her. She told me I was lucky to be an only child - must say I agreed.

One of my sisters who plays oneupmanship over absolutely everything.

It's hard to explain but one of the many things she does, say when talking about something we did as kids it's all I, I, I. Never 'remember when we did such and such'. Main character syndrome, I think...

She also seems to think we all need to know every detail about her work. Seriously luv, find another topic 🥱.

She has annoyed me just now with a text message, because as usual she has ignored what I said in reply to her first message. Also a great woman for trying to turn people against each other and unfortunately some of the family never see that. If she talks about others to you, do you think she doesn't talk about you to others!

I learned the hard way, and keep my distance as much as possible.

Greed. I’m not in the house buying game but had vaguely planned to buy in my area and it should’ve been fairly easy. Just had another look and houses that were selling for £65k in 2019 are now £180k. I’m all for people making a profit but come the duck on. Part of me hopes there’s a huge surge in anti social behaviour (it’s brewing) just to shock the knobbers who can’t afford the posher postcode and think they can gentrify this area with pastel doors and moroccan floor tiles 🤪

They've got to squeeze every penny out of buyers to be able to afford the house they are buying. Which probably has the same issue all the way up the chain.
The problem where I live is all the small crappy old houses were bought up by "property developers" 10-15 years ago. Theyve done things like extensions, full renovations etc and sold them all for 40-50k profit. Which now means first time buyers, who could have afforded 1 of these houses, made do with old kitchens and bathrooms, doing them up as and when they can afford cannot afford them! That bottom rung of the ladder simply does not exist!
Even with my house we waited and pushed ourselves on the budget. They made 75k from when they first bought it because of the market!

These are the small crappy old houses without any extensions or renovations done to them, though. At most they’ve stuck a stand-alone bath in and put another figure in front of the asking price. Houses are cheap here compared to the national average so it‘s even more of a cheek.

This is akin to a landlord of a property above us. I live in a block of studio flats with a tiny kitchen about the size of a Virgin train toilet. Flat consists of one main room, tiny bathroom, tiny kitchen and a small passageway behind the door connecting the three.Landlord of flat above ripped the kitchen out and put it in the living room so he could call the kitchen a bedroom and charge rent for a one bedroom instead of studio. Said "Renovation" caused a massive leak to seep down one of our 2 pitiful light fittings which now means we have barely any light in because we cannot afford the several hundred it would cost to fix the damage caused by him putting a bloody sink in over our living room

Id like to rant about friends who are always too tired, or can't be bothered, or seem to refuse to leave the house with both of their children (will ocassionally venture out if she can get a baby sitter for one) and never make plans with you or agree to plans, but can find the energy/time/money etc to not only go for lunch with others but entire child free weekends away.
Just find it very frustrating when it's so regular.
Hmmmm... yes. I don't really have friends like this anymore as I figured they weren't really my friends. People I was allegedly good mates with were booked up weeks and months in advance when I suggested meeting up and yet had time to see others...

I remember saying to one of them, oh we should do xyz, and she was like oh I'm booked up until the summer, and I was like ok just let me know when you're free. She never did and that was around 7 years ago.

I was having a conversation the other day with a friend about how you can get into situations where both of you think the other hasn't bothered getting in touch, but your situation doesn't sound like that.

Put yourself first x
---
One of my friends has a bidet which is the most amazing thing ever. I really want one but (a) they're far too expensive and (b) not sure I have the room. Hers has essential oils, powder ... anything you can dream of!

Another of my friends has a combined radio and magazine rack in the toilet! I know people will have mixed thoughts about hygiene when it comes to this, but if you are stuck in there for a while then it is actually a great idea.

Back on topic:

One of our coffee carts was broken into last night and destroyed quite badly (both the cart itself as well as everything inside). They'd obviously tried to tow or move it, judging by the damage to its axles, but couldn't as it's pretty well anchored into its spot. The thugs have also smashed up various landmarks in the immediate area.

Where we're sited, is overlooked by houses - it's a wonder nobody saw anything (or if they did, why they didn't phone it in).

We're fully insured, but given the current backlog in claims they'll likely take ages to pay out.

We can't open today because the police have scene workers brushing for prints, etc. Given that there's a cruise ship in at port, that's a huge day's takings down the drain.

It's just so frustrating. Crime is getting worse everywhere - all retailers are copping it - but it's getting to the point where I have to question whether it's worth it.
Really sorry to hear

I have been feeling really odd for the past few days ... I have heartburn after eating every meal, and my voice has turned into a raspy croak. I'm also fatigued - I haven't even been bike riding in a few weeks as I don't have the energy.

I called my doctor's surgery today to book a face-to-face to see what's going on. Because I have 'flu symptons (being the voice issues), I have to have a phone consult first as is now the policy -- and they can't fit me in until Thursday week. I understand why that rule is in place, but my voice issues are not 'flu related and I've done a Covid test which was negative. I tried explaining this to the woman on the end of the phone but she wasn't budging.

She said if I felt it was urgent, I could go to the after-hours clinic ... which I did, only to see 40 people waiting (I decided not to wait).

Oh well, guess I'd better go and stock up on Gaviscon!
---
PS: The police caught the little shits who vandalised our coffee cart - they were aged between 8 and 12. They were also responsible for trashing a few office block frontages and stealing a car. Nothing will happen to them - they'll be dealt with youth court who'll probably give them a slap on the wrist only for them to do it all again.

Something will come up! I had it out on our local facebook with some woman when i was buying, she recognised me from the viewing 🤣 said we've seen houses made from LITERAL cardboard being sold by boomers who just want to get as much as they can to buy an ACTUAL brick house and a property in spain... she was like excuse me my house is NOT made of cardboard...
It was grim. Ive been in caravans with thicker walls. At least they are detached!

My neighbours cats using my garden as their own personal toilet
I've got a huge planter outside my backdoor with a sage plant growing it in I went out this morning to feed the birds and the pot is completely full of cat tit.
My grandad grew that plant from a seed in his own garden and when we lost him I couldnt bare to leave it behind so we dug it up and put it in our garden I will be devastated if they have killed it.
Has anyone got any tips on how to keep the bloody cats out of it please 😪

I have the same nightmare with cat poo. Apparently spraying lions wee (avaliable on amazon) helps, or citrus smells (ie chuck an orange peel out there) or for a more spenny option there's those noise things that cats hate.

Aaaaaaand this is why I always donate old clothes and wares to charity because I just can't be arsed with dealing with idiots 😂😢

I could have made a fair bit of money over the years but I just can't face posting on Facebook marketplace 😂

Men and their horrendous levels of aggression. What is going wrong in society that this is now so commonplace?

Load of shouting going on outside my house this morning - I look out and there's some bloke absolutely screaming at another guy (other guy just walking his kid to school). Saying he will sort him out, all kinds of I'll duck your mum type street talk stuff. Completely vile. Other bloke walks off, he does respond but basically just saying duck off etc. First bloke still going at it, I'll come for you when your kid aint with you, all that. Dad shouting back just leave it, kid is crying hysterically.

So being the person I am (hate seeing kids upset like that) I open my window and tell him to sod off or I'm calling the police. Cue a stream of him telling me he'll come and sort me out too, he knows where I live. I basically said that's fine, you can tell all that to the police. He did at least walk off at that point. Some woman (mum? Grandma? ) was following him at a distance so I'm guessing she knows what he's like but can't control him. He wasn't old - maybe 18-25? I did call the police as there are 2 schools in our road, and someone like that is bloody dangerous. It made me think of the Lee Pomeroy case (the man stabbed on a train by some aggressive idiot).

Mental health issues? Drugs? Or just arseholes? Honestly, I grew up in a rough area (far rougher than where I live now, it's quite nice round here usually!) and I never saw anything like the stuff I do every week now.

I tried the cat noise thing and it worked at first, then they twigged and would walk up to it, sniff, then stare at me arrogantly.
I think the ting that worked for me was teabags wth drops that pungent nasal stuff that I can't remember the name of.
