What Are Your Hobbies?

Those sound like great hobbies!

What kinds of house plants do you have? Any recommendations? I only have a few kinds at the moment. I'm trying my best, but even the spider plants have been brought back from the brink of death a few times and they're supposed to be indestructible!

Which plants are you struggling with? Perhaps I can give some advice I'm glad you managed to save your spider plant!

My first plants when I had no idea what I was doing were: monstera (swiss cheese plant), snake plant and dragon tree. All really easy to grow. Mine are all placed in indirect light and I only watered when the soil was really dry. I also recommend ivys as beginner plants: a pothos (devils ivy) or an english ivy might be good for you. Hope this helps and your indoor jungle will begin to flourish!

You'd be surprised how much people will pay for a cross stitch picture. If you can double mount and frame them, then you'll make money while enjoying your hobby. The best I made was quite a smallish picture of white roses on one stem with leaves. Put it in a large frame and it sold for £85.

Most of my hobbies include other people, so it's been difficult since covid. I haven't seen anybody in person except immediate family, because we're stricter than most with ensuring we don't unnecessarily risk illness. We work/study from home, and get shopping delivered. Our child is still young enough not to be in school, so I feel lucky in that regard that we don't have to send Child to school with our fingers crossed.

I used to like the vibe and culture of going out for a meal. My husband and I would go out at least once a week and I'd also go out with different friends at least once a week. I'm more of a one-on-one or two-on-one person, I don't like big group hang outs, so I would individually see my friends rather than get everyone together. Hubby and I are foodies, but we've adapted well and started making (well he, because I can't cook) the restaurant meals we used to have, at home. He's a born chef! We cook dishes from different cultures, Asian, African, and the Americas.

We also loved traveling! Not to resorts, more of the shoe-string budget type of traveling and imersing ourselves into another culture (I know, how millennial of me!) We've been trying to visit a different country each year. This year we went to our living room! (Sorry. Lol).

Another hobby I liked was going to the gym. Exercising at home is just not the same vibe. We still go hiking, but I miss the gym.

I really like aisle-by-aisle shopping too. I know I can still do it, but it's not worth the risk to me. Haven't shopped in person since March.

I like sports, playing and watching. My favorites are swimming, tennis, basketball, and anything else that involves a high heart rate (so not golf ).

My circumstantial hobbies right now are baking and photographing elaborate cakes (freestyle, just winging the designs) and tattle. I can't cook, but I can bake. So far so good with the cakes, they've all worked out and not to toot your my own horn but I'm really proud I can do it! I didn't know I could. As for tattle, I hate it when a thread I'm watching dies. It's half my life right now

Hmm it sounds like you're doing everything right, I've heard it's easy to keep too, although I don't own one myself (yet). I follow a lot of houseplant threads on Reddit, and I searched string of hearts and found this tip that might help: A good way to indicate if it’s time to water is when the older thicker leaves get soft and bendy. If it’s firm and you can’t bend it without snapping the leaf in half then leave it be! I also recommend trimming it when it finally gets long enough, propagate the cuttings in water, and put it back in the soil for a fuller look.

Perhaps you could trim your 2 foot long string, propagate it, then add it back into your pot? I'm doing this with my tradescantia trailing plant and it's actually working. Ughhh, I feel you with ferns and palms. They annoy me so much because my cat won't stop chomping them! Mine look so sad and ratty

My main hobby is horses and riding - I don't really think of it as a hobby because they're pretty much my whole life and every waking hour revolves around them. I don't know what I'd do if they didn't dictate my life! I have two at the moment and compete in dressage locally when I can but mostly just ride for fun with friends - and looking after them takes up far more time than actually riding, but I wouldn't have it any other way!

Other hobbies are gardening and reading (I'm in two great book clubs) and travel.

I'm learning Swedish at the moment too.

If I knew how to PM you I would do so.

In the meantime, if you frame the pictures you won't be hanging at home, then take them with you to any antiques shop and suggest to the owner that they can keep 15% of any that they sell. If there are any left after Xmas the price could be reduced in a sale. Any that don't sell by say, February you could either give to friends on birthdays, or to a charity to include in their raffle. Just a few suggestions for you to consider. Good luck.

Photography, gym and baking are my main ones. I’m also learning to speak German as I’d love to emigrate there one day. During lockdown I bought myself a gel nail lamp and polishes to do my nails with. I actually really enjoy doing it and it’s so much cheaper. I guess that’s a hobby?!

Photography. I’ve always enjoyed taking photos but last year I bought a slightly better camera and have been spending a lot of time learning about the settings etc. YouTube is a fantastic resource but I’ve also taken a couple of online courses - I love it! I’ve never had a hobby before, really. You start to look at things in a different way.

I think most beginners teach yourself books will guide you through learning to read music notation. I have long since forgotten how to read music, but I used to be able to and I don't recall any of my high school music teachers actually teaching us to read it (might be misremembering though). When my brother was learning the keyboard he bought a cheap one and labelled all the keys in Sharpie whilst he got used to it - not very aesthetically pleasing, but it seemed to work for him.

Edited for another tip -- I'm learning to play an instrument at the moment, and someone told me to learn to play things that I *want* to be able to play. So, for example, I'm learning simplified versions of classic rock songs. There's no reason to force yourself through Twinkle Twinkle Little Star etc if you don't want to.

I did see stickers to place on the keys, might try that and get a beginners book on reading notes. Im really excited and was always sad that I was never taught how to play an instrument!

Like others pointless browsing and shopping on the internet has overtaken what would have been hobbies.

I love art and crafts. I like sketching real life people or random mystical creatures from my imagination. I did used to go to a local group on a thursday afternoon where you could use their materials and took up painting. I also like making polymer clay creations. Usually mystical creatures.

Before I got pregnant with my little boy last year I was boxing on saturday morning and in the gym 3-4 times a week and did a few marathons for charity. And those are things I would like to do again as it helped my confidence and anxiety.

I love nature walks, I enjoy going fishing (actual fishing and magnet fishing) with my partner but it isn't something I would do alone. Its something we enjoy together.

I also enjoy books on real life murders, crime, mysteries, psychology, local history and memoirs of bad childhoods. I have always loved reading, since a child. I was a proper bookworm.

I have also lately in the past couple of years started to take pride and joy in my garden and find that therapeutic watching it come along.

I don't really have any hobbies, I don't seem to have time. I'm always too busy with the kids etc.. and I feel like my partners have never took it seriously that I may want to have hobbies and I never get time to peruse them .

I have interests, though, I'm really keen on general knowledge and I memorise bits of info that might be useful for a quiz. I'm also fascinated by the English language, especially dialects.

The last bit sound like something I'd put on my c.v.
