I couldn't find a thread about this, so I thought I'd start one!

It's a question that takes me back to awkward first dates and GCSE French lessons, but even so, I'm curious to know what you guys' hobbies are. I've done various things on and off throughout my life, but I've decided to try and stick to something for once. So, I'm currently trying to teach myself guitar and I'm really enjoying running. I'm also looking into various arts and crafts and have booked onto a virtual craft afternoon run by a local shop. Just trying to better myself and have a bit more fun rather than just watching TV and reading!

So, what do you guys get up to, then? :giggle:

I wish I had the patience to learn an instrument, I am always in awe of people who can play.

I like photography and writing, and I read a lot. I used to go to the gym almost every day but since lockdown I haven't been, so just been running and walking outside. I also like craft beer and trying new recipes :).

Photography, gym and baking are my main ones. I’m also learning to speak German as I’d love to emigrate there one day. During lockdown I bought myself a gel nail lamp and polishes to do my nails with. I actually really enjoy doing it and it’s so much cheaper. I guess that’s a hobby?!

Great idea for a thread!

I feel mindless browsing of the internet has taken space that was usually dedicated to hobbies. I don't mean here (😂), just those pointless, endless scrolls that end up with you looking up and saying, where the hell did the last 10/30/120 minutes go 😓

So, outside of being a professional winge, I am teaching myself to play the flute and read music. I also loved working out but had some nasty injuries over lockdown so am doing the sensible thing of resting up and eating my bodyweight in fish and chips 👍🏻

I used to relish a good book but my job involves reading a lot of materials every day so I find it hard to get into reading for pleasure after a day of doing it for pain 😂 I've just written a children's book which I'd love to send off.

I also used to do lots of drama and acting but sort of fell out of love with it (there's a whole PhD in the psychology of amateur dramatic groups, I can tell you!). Will definitely look to get back into it or set a group up for actors/ writers etc. after lockdown.

And therein ends my sermon.

Spending money I don't have, eating and wondering why I'm getting fat. Seriously though pre pandemic I loved going to gigs and the theatre but that's off for now. I'm hoping to take up photography as I've found a love for that.

I do cross stitching-my only problem is that I’ll be doing one and then I’ll see another one to do,so I buy it then falling in love with yet another
i have 15 waiting for me after I’ve done my lighthouse by the sea and I have my eye on one that is sunflowers
they take between 3 days-6months each
i think my fella worked out that I’ve done 18 in the last 4 years
I give them away now as I’m starting to run out of walls to put them on!

I can play the flute 🙂 I learnt from age 9 but stopped in my teenage years. It’s a great instrument! I’ve always wanted to play the violin.

Great idea for a thread! I used to have zero hobbies until last year when I moved back to my home city and realised I didn't actually do anything but work/commute 😂 Nowadays, my main hobby is volunteering for the RSPCA. I look after cats and kittens in my local shelter and it is the highlight of my week. The only downside is wanting to adopt them all but I can't fit them all in my flat. Back when music festivals were a thing, I volunteered for a number of them too and had a great time.

Apart from this I gym A LOT, and started playing volleyball as a team sport last year. It's tough, and the other girls are much much better than me, but it's satisfying to get compliments from team mates when they notice I improve! Of course with the pandemic, the volleyball club isn't training again until late October so I'll probably be back at beginner level and will have completely forgotten how to hit a ball.

I also have a growing collection of houseplants (21 and counting!) and have started to dabble in film photography. I'm going to get my first roll of film developed this week and see how I've managed to document my post-lockdown socialising 📷

I started gardening this spring, mainly focusing on veg!

I did potatoes, lettuce, Broad beans, runner beans, carrots, tomatoes, garlic and onions.

also grew some lupine plants, sunflowers, and sweet peas all from seed.

first year growing anything and I loved it, already planning my Veg boxes for next year! Xxxx

I love painting, when I can fit it in between My 4yo and 18m old and working part time! I do abstracts in acrylic and alcohol inks mainly.
Also love cooking. I used to read a lot but hardly read at all at the moment, should really make more of an effort to get off my phone and pick up a book!

same! I stopped playing when I was about 14 and felt like it was taking over my life and just got way too much with exams. I still have my flute and all my books - can’t bear to part with them! Every now and then I get it out to have a little play for a few mins and the nostalgia comes flooding back. It’s one of those things I always say I’ll revisit again but never have. Think it’s probably in dire need of a service after being sat in the box for 17 years!

I’m a bit of a flake with hobbies. I’m fully absorbed then for some reason I just stop and may stop doing it for years.

Hobbies have included flute (as above), reading is currently on the back burner but I love buying books and I have a whole load of them ha! Knitting, cross stitch and crochet are also something I’ve not done for a long time but it’s popped up again in my brain so they’ll probably make an appearance soon...!

I like colouring as I find it therapeutic and good if I’m feeling anxious, doing jigsaws, puzzle books like the ones with word searches and sudoku etc and I also enjoying cooking - again it helps me feel organised and in control if I’m feeling anxious or stress. I’m not particularly arty but like crafts and so you can tell I’m one big introvert! 😅😎

I love to read, bake and cook! If I'm stressed or my anxiety is bad you'll find me in the kitchen creating!

Sewing (although I’m no expert, just a beginner), gardening and sometimes I paint those little stones you find dotted about.

Knitting and crocheting. I am really bad as I have a few projects going at the moment so shouldn't start anymore. I used to cross stitch too. Xxx
Ah, I used to love cross stitch. It always relaxed me. Maybe I should take it up again. 😊😊

I don’t really have any interesting hobbies. I really enjoy playing video games, does that count? I fell in love with Red Dead Redemption 2 over lockdown. First game to actually make me cry at the end I was so enamoured with the story, the characters, the settings etc. Just a beautifully crafted game.

I have considered trying to learn the keyboard, but I have a habit of deciding I want to start a hobby, spending money on it, spending ages learning about said hobby and then eventually getting bored, so I’m wary of investing the time/money again only to realise it’s not for me. My partner loves to poke fun at me over all my failed hobbies😂
