I listened to the 40th Anniversary cast recording of Les Mis last night and no disrespect to the cast but that's an album I shall not be playing again.

I went in hoping to enjoy the new orchestrations but I know at this point the one true version of the show will always be that original London production until around the late 1990s when it first started to get meddled with. I just wish the complete symphonic recording had Colm as Valjean and anyone else on the planet as Madame T!
Yes. Colm Wilkinson was always my favourite!

I wish I could have seen him live but I did get to see John Owen Jones a few times back when I first became obsessed with the show in the late 90s and I'm so glad, he's my second favourite Valjean.

Possibly controversial opinion, but I don’t get why Alfie Bow is so highly regarded as JVJ. For me his style is too operatic and sounds jarring when he’s singing alongside more the musical theatre voices in the rest of the cast. Would always prefer a John Owen-Jones, Killian Donnelly etc JVJ instead. (Colm Wilkinson as the GOAT goes without saying, especially for those of us who grew up listening to the original cast recordings on long car journeys back in the 80s and 90s!)

For me, not controversial. I don't know why Alfie boe keeps getting brought back.

I don't get the hype about him at all.

I saw him in Carousel and he sang well enough in a very demanding role but his acting was so wooden I had to agree with the review that said Alfie Boe out acted by wig 🤭

I love Les Mis but the constant re casting of old favourites in the lead roles does get quite boring.
Give someone else a chance now!

That's what makes Sir Cameron money hand over fist though. He wouldn't be able to do the endless arena tours and anniversary concerts without reusing the known names.

I saw Josh Groban in Sweeny Todd on Broadway. Hugely disappointing. He has a wonderful voice but his acting was so wooden. Alfie Boe is the same. Being able to sing doesn’t mean you can carry a part in musical theatre. These producers don’t care as long as the big names bring in the $$$$

40 minute show stop at Hunger Games this arvo, is this common with the show or was I unlucky?

Luckily it was the matinee but I’m sure it messed things up to turn the show around for the evening

Jonathan Bailey is out of Sunday in the Park with George, too...
I was saying to a friend the other day it wouldn’t surprise me if he left, it’s quite sad.

I know they said they’re going to recast and will move forward, but I’m wondering if they actually will.

Is he the next Bond then? Been rumoured for over a year.

I've seen Sunday In The Park With George, years ago. It's not an easy musical. I can't see it being an easy sell without the big big big names so I should imagine it will get cancelled now and something simpler and more popular put on instead.
