I also have an irrational fear of bed bugs. Got them in Budapest (luckily didn't take them home with me) but I was paranoid for months and felt itchy everywhere even when all the bites were gone . I thought I was losing my mind for a while. Every time I spotted a black crum on my bed, I panicked.... It's better now but I think I can't enjoy travelling as much anymore because I am extremly scared of getting them again. When I book hotels/hostels I thoroughly check all ratings for any mentions of bed bugs, look at photos of the room (how crammed it is, material of bed and wardrobes... and how well it can be cleaned / treated with heat / insecticide in case they had an infection.. Which I guess every place did at some point). When I arrive I check the matress first and never leave stuff on the bed / try to keep my suitcase shut. For a while I even put it in a garbage bag when not needed but don't do this anymore...

Going swimming....

I'm 36 years old and I can't swim. All because in a swimming lesson when I was about 9 or 10, my best friend trapped me under a float and I nearly drowned. Amazingly she's still my best friend, but after that I cannot bear to be in a swimming pool... Ironically she's now my daughters god mother and takes her swimming. She's very apologetic and, even now, mortified that she caused my phobia.

But yeah, I'll never be a swimmer.

Black swimming pools. I don’t know how people can have black or very dark tiling in a pool. Not sure I’ve even seen one in real life, but I wouldn’t go in one.

Me too. Driving over them is horrendous.
Completely. We were on holiday when I was younger and had to drive over the San Francisco Bridge. We got caught in traffic and I freaked out.

My Mum hates piers. Anything you're crossing and can see between the slats to below. There's a point in Blackpool Pleasure Beach she always avoided too because you could see a ride passing underneath. Me and Dad used to wind her up when I was little, but now I have my own phobias I'm more sympathetic!
I’m not the biggest fan of piers but I’m not half as bad as on bridges, I do try to avoid them where possible though!

I'm not really scared of heights but I'm terrified of sheer cliffs, I couldn't even watch countryfile for a while it was so bad. Does anyone else experience that?

I hate being physically sick. I'm sure no one actually likes to vomit 😂 but when i'm sick I have to do it into a bowl or the sink. I CANNOT be sick in a toilet. The thought of my face being that close to the toilet bowl:sick: not sure how anyone can do this.

I was exactly the same! For years I tried to explain it and no one understood, eventually stumbled across the term online and felt enlightened. Luckily I don’t encounter clusters of small holes on a regular basis so it doesn’t cause any bother
Glad it’s not just me! The worst that used to give me the heebie jeebies was them awful wooden things in a bunch of flowers, even thinking about it sends shivers down my spine!

- I have the fear of small holes (Trypophobia) - seeing a lotus seed head in particular makes me feel like I am about to vom
- Spiders - having 8 legs just isn’t normal and they are so fast and gross looking
- Cows - I have no idea why I am afraid of cows but I am terrified
- Not a phobia exactly but something from my childhood that still appears in my dream when I am having a nightmare - the bear from Teletubbies 🙈 View attachment 148748
the tellitubies are terrifying in general 😭

Open water. Absolute nope, my husband made me go into the sea with him during a stop on a boat trip we took when we were on holiday in Zakynthos. Loads of people got in, but I wanted to cry the entire time, I was terrified of not knowing what was swimming around me. Couldn’t get back on the boat fast enough.

Spiders. I can’t stand the way they move and how fast they are. 😰

Clowns. They’re not one bit funny and I’ve read Stephen King’s “IT”plenty to be put off for life.

Having my neck tickled. I will lash out. I don’t even laugh, I scream with actual terror.

Mashed potato- just why?

Iced lolly sticks and wooden cuttlery...some paper cups too and sugar& flour bags, touching them makes me feel sick. Same with a plastered wall

People eating my food or drinking from my cup/glass etc. Makes me feel sick

I have a horrid thought in my head that someone will pin me down and file my teeth

I watched 999 as a kid and got the fear of drains in swimming pools after a kid got sucked into one. Shat the life out of me

Boats and ships, absolutely terrified of them (must have been on titanic in a previous life)
Deep water
Fish
Clowns

Car ferries or any large ships. Especially container ships. I’m absolutely terrified of them. I’m also petrified of the circus, more specifically the big top. Even the sight of it makes me shiver.
Terrifed of ships to!! No one understands. I literally have panic attacks and almost pass out if I see one

Scrapping nail on side of a bottle top especially the ones with the ridges 🤢 I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

Using cutlery and glasses in a restaurant, I’ve never liked it even as a child I’d always give the knife and fork a good wipe before using and always drink with a straw 😂.

Party poppers and balloons popping, I panic when my children have them or I’m at a party with them incase they burst. Party poppers I have to cover my ears when someone is about to pull it. If I’m watching a scary film and I know something is about to happen I instantly cover my ears as well 😂 it helps with not being as scared

This was one back when I was a teenager but walking past a group of lads 😂 I’d see them and get my phone out and pretend to be texting while walking past. My friend used to do this as well so I know I’m not the only one 😂
