I’ve about 30 mins of the doc left, I think given the media and also the conversation with the first Sherpa it’s quite obvious what direction it’s going and it’s been quite a depressing and stressful watch to be honest. I don’t really see why Spencer had to be there and leave his 8 old baby for 3 weeks

I think I've always found the thought of Everest quite sinister, the fact that so many people die up there, that it's too dangerous to recover bodies so they just stay there, and people just step over them and use them as landmarks! (Turn left at the guy with the green boots etc!) Everything about it I find to be a bit of a horror story! So that's probably influenced my view!
Yes totally agree. I dont know why anyone would want to do it. The chance of dying is so high.

I thought it was an incredible documentary and he came across very well. To admit defeat and then help someone else I think is amazing. Credit where credit is due I say

Yeah no bother, it's mainly down to the fact that he's obviously had a bad reputation in made in chesela and a lot of people don't like him. He was painted with the reality TV show brush, j

It was the video call towards the end that I didn't like is all.
I watched it! It was put together really well but yes, heartbreaking and stressful to watch. Spencer and his family come off as very genuine, respectful people. The video call was such an off tone for the whole thing, really felt for him. She's so self absorbed and has no self awareness!

Loved the documentary... thought it was beautifully and sensitively made.

It was heartbreaking when spencer lit up at seeing everest for the first time and reflecting how close he felt to his brother for the first time in years, you could sense his genuine happiness. I thought he came across so well, mature, reflective and a real man....a thousand miles away from the MIC caricature 😭

It was an an amazing thing they did too recovering the body of the sherpa who died only recently. They didn't have to do that and that is a real lasting legacy.

For me it was kinda jarring seeing vogue so sombre and serious ... just not used yo that side of her.

Spencer came across so well - I was really rooting for him.

On a separate note - I would love to see him do more documentaries.

At first I was quite taken back with Vogue in the phone call but then I think maybe she is right to express her emotions as Spencer mentioned how in his family they never cry and you can see he struggles to express deep emotions even how he interacted with the little girl so maybe it’s good that she’s so open as Spencer didn’t seem to think how it would impact others.

Genuine question; how come people were surprised by Vogue’s reaction in the video call? I think it was a totally normal and appropriate response. It showed she was cautiously hopeful that they would find him, and expressed her sadness for her mother in law who she’s said many time she loves a lot. I’m confused lol

Initially I didn’t understand the problem with her reaction but I re watched it and realised she didn’t show any sympathy towards Spencer or gave no ‘well done’ for trying she was just going on about his mum being upset which no doubt made Spencer feel worse about failing to bring his brother home

I wasn't surprised she was crying, it's a deeply emotional thing that her husband did and the depth of that disappointment that they didn't find him must've been huge. My reaction though was "what about your husband though??" It's obvious that Spencer's mother would be so upset but this is Spencer's brother - he presumably was in bits too. That call just seemed to double down on his failure to find his brother and to make him feel guilty about what that would do to his poor mother.

He doesn't seem to be great with expressing emotions but if it was my partner, I'd be so worried about him and hurt for him. Maybe I'm just sensitive though, as my own partner lost a sibling unexpectedly and it's exhausting seeing how he caretakes for his whole family and so few people want to ask how HE'S doing. I really wanted Vogue to show up for him in that moment.

Also remember vogue was post partum and emotions and hormones were still probably mental

Spoilers below btw:

Ok so I’m understanding that she didn’t seem to show enough sympathy for Spencer, I can see how that could be interpreted.

I still personally think it was a perfectly reasonable response; she knows Spencer would’ve likely been uncomfortable with an outpouring of sympathy towards him, and her weeping about how sorry she felt for him wouldn’t have been the right thing to do while he’s halfway up Everest having suffered the disappointment first hand. They were knowingly both on camera too so that plays a part in the whole ‘stiff upper lip’ attitude. Had she been with him in private at that moment it would’ve obviously played out differently. Either way it was a good watch

And just to add, Vogue was probably tasked with sharing the news with Jane so maybe that was at the forefront of her mind.

Their conversation could of been longer and was edited.

It was raw emotion. Who knows how we would react in that situation?

Tbh my husband woukdnt want me to pull out his emotion or try and tap into his emotion if this happened . He would want to stay solid and practical to cope and I’d be the one with sympathy for my mother in law:
