Vegans and Ex-vegans

I think he is still very obsessed with food, I wonder how over his ED he actually is.
I feel like this is relevant to so many vegan youtubers! I also found veganism while recovering from an ED and I guess the restrictions it creates are appealing, but I was receiving pretty good care and found a healthy way to live vegan without my ED. I also have always had a strong aversion to dairy.

When I discovered vegan YouTube I had a massive relapse because most of the vegan youtubers I was watching were “in recovery” but really meant they had acknowledged their ED and were using veganism as a healthy but still restrictive lifestyle.

Anyone got any thoughts on That Vegan Couple? I like to see what they eat but find them a little hardcore.

Best raw vegan youtuber drama ever was a big guy who lived out in Thailand invited some German girl and another raw vegan girl to live in his house then German girl accused him of sending her sexual messages and basically the large guy was demonised all over YouTube but then came with receipts that German girl had been sending him messages as if they were embarking on a relationship to get free/discounted rent she then Had to post some Long ass vlog saying she had mental health . So dramatic and I believe freelee and durianrider got involved somewhere down the line

Yeah I do! She's one of the few vegan youtubers I actually still enjoy watching. I like how self-deprecating her sense of humour and editing style are, and she seems quite down-to-earth. I also think she gives sensible advice about nutrition/ED recovery and her approach to food is refreshingly normal for the vegan community (and in general). I follow her friend Sophie (cornonthecob) on instagram too, and she seems like another fairly mature one with nice, non-rabbitey, normal recipes.

I like Miles (healthycrazycool) too, though I agree with some of the earlier posters that the exaggerated love/appreciation of certain food and going on and on about the volume on his plate sort of still seem disordered - but I do appreciate the fact that he's honest about this. And then again, does anyone have a completely 'normal' relationship with food in this day and age... I like his no-BS approach to veganism, though. And while I can't afford to eat like him nor do I ever crave fruit/veg in those quantities, I agree with his stance on how intuitive eating can be dangerous for some people. His nut butter reviews genuinely kill me - they're great.

Which other vegan youtubers are people still watching/are somewhat palatable? I watch Unnatural Vegan sometimes, and I like Madeleine Olivia and NikkiVegan's content in general. I follow JessBeautician, SweetPotatoSoul, Rachel Ama, Bosh, and PickUpLimes for recipes too.
Absolutely love Helena, she seems so happy and genuine and has a good education.

Also there is something in Miles I like but I feel like he has seriously stretched his stomach out to eat so much. There is also his friend, Anna Winstone, who's videos I really enjoy and recommend. She has a small channel at the moment but it shows some growth. She used to live with Helena.

Yep totally agree! I like Anna's videos too. I also like her collabs with Miles and I'm excited for more content together now that she's moved close to his place. They seem to have a really genuine friendship and they're hilarious together. I like how 'normally' Helena eats tbh, it's so refreshing to watch. Basically a standard Western diet but veganised, without all the superfoods and niche products. I think she's a really good representation of what a regular, unfussy, not hyper-privileged vegan diet can look like.

I’d love to follow some YouTube lifestyle vegans if anyone has any recommendations, I don’t follow food related channels cos I personally find them boring and follow enough foodies on IG 🤣

Ohhh I remember that .... the best connection? That was crazy! He had a thing for young women and had loads staying at his house taking advantage of him for free. He was loaded and I never understood how? He was trying to cure his t2 diabetes with a all fruit diet!? Another taken in by the freelee cult 🙈

I'm up for channel recommendations too, I need more people to follow. Want someone like Anna, Miles, Helena... Who else is there?

I used to like Bonny Rebecca but now that she is not a vegan there is nothing any more that would make her special. Also she doesn't work and posts so rarely, I just don't understand.

I like The Viet Vegan, Jess Greenash, Vegan Bodegacat, and Honeybunch of Onion Tops too. Similar no-BS personality vibes. For recipes I like NikkiVegan.

I hadn't followed her in a while so I was surprised to see maddie lymburner was no longer vegan!

Are mr and mrs vegan still kicking around? I've always felt off about them.

Speaking of Mr. and Mrs. Vegan did anyone catch that video where they went on "The Vegan View" (one host is Nikki Vegan)? And Mr. & Mrs. kept spewing that climate change isn't real and plastic isn't hurting our environment and actually a great resource (uhhh??), citing heavily skewed and industry funded research studies as evidence. I never liked them but that absolutely astounded me as it seemed a 180 from their prior YT persona before they kind of disappeared. Even worse was the girls of the vegan view just sat there nodding their heads. I think that made me lose a lot of respect for them. I searched for the video but can't find it anymore so hopefully they've since removed it. It's too bad, because I quite liked Nikki Vegan at the time, but I kind of lost a lot of respect for her after that video and also after seeing the one where they had on some kook doctor spewing pseudo science.

I agree with the person above though, I really like The Viet Vegan, don't mind VeganBodegaCat most of the time, and as long as she isn't slurping into a microphone and saying "like" like someone mentioned earlier I really do like Rose/CheapLazyVegan.

Does anyone else remember the drama between Sonia Elsie and mr and Mrs vegan?
Omg I forgot. Didn’t they invite her to stay (as well as lots of other very young female yters- sketchy) and then kicked her out in a hurry. So I went down the rabbit hole and it turns out Mr vegan is now spewing anti vegan rhetoric? Saying science doesn’t support veganism. I checked their twitter and good lord. This has to be a troll account? Not a happy healthy vegan fan but I doubt he made this video as a joke? They knew each other...https://youtu.be/EBFPXPXiS70
@mrmrsvegan on Twitter? They barely have any followers... but also like who would create a troll acct for them these days?? Check it out it’s wild. Covid deniers, white privileged deniers, etc.

They did used to invite various people to stay. So are they no longer vegan either or just saying anti vegan stuff? I had the same reaction seeing their twitter activity, they're the worst!
Even before that a few years ago, it didn't feel right that the facebook group was essentially mr vegan and a bunch of impressionable women/girls he bullied and fearmongered into his wslf diet. There were quite a few breakaway group chats made up of people disillusioned with his advice

Really loving watching smaller youtubers recently and hoping they will blow up. :) Thanks for your suggestions too by the way!

Recently found Erin Rutherford on Youtube (erin.appetit on Instagram) and her recipes and general approach to food are so refreshing. She isn't vegan but eats mostly plant-based and her recipes are really inventive but still simple. She makes most things from scratch and her food/desserts just look so good while being accessible for the average person. I've tried a couple of her recipes now and am a big fan!

I don't know what it is about vegans but so many of them seem to think they're superior to all the non-vegans out there....annoys me so much!
I have been vegan for almost 7 years, and I have to disagree with this. I'm not preachy in anyway shape or form, my partner is French and eats the weirdest and imo most cruel animal products but I let him do his thing and I do mine. But I just really hate when people make out that all vegans are preachy.

There are some preachy vegans. There are more preachy non vegans telling vegans they are going to die from protein deficiency, and forcing meat in their faces and assuming that us not doing something because we think it is best for animals and the planet is somehow an immediate attack on those who don't.

I disagree wholeheartedly with vegans who bring up the topic without question, and try to guilt trip. Everybody's life is different and it is much easier for certain people to be vegan than others. I do however respect those who make facts clear WHEN non-vegans attack them. Trust me, it happens a lot.
