The grooming gang chat really frustrates me because every person that I’ve come across that is very vocal about it and uses it to tar every non-white person with the same brush is deathly silent whenever there are white gangs arrested/charged.
It literally happened last month on my Facebook. My police force shared some images of a gang they’d got sentenced and all but 1 of the men were of Asian appearance. The amount of people that shared their disgust (rightfully so at the crimes they’d committed btw) but also tagged on “get them out, hang them all, go back to your own country” etc then 2 weeks later, an all white grooming gang got sentenced and the story shared by the same police force..not 1 peep out of any of the people that shared the previous gang. It’s funny how people only seem to be against child sex crimes when the perpetrator is brown/black but don’t advocate against it if the perpetrator is white.

And before anyone comes for me, yes I believe we need to get a handle on immigration but actually by offering more safe/legal ways for people to claim and with an asylum decision making system that is actually fit for purpose. This would be the only way to make people stop risking their lives if they could claim in their own/other countries. If they paired this with tackling the human trafficking gangs then you might actually see an improvement.

I think the government has done a really good job getting people to place their anger with certain demographics when in fact the anger should be directed at them. They’re taking our money and lining their own pockets, that includes the Rwanda plan, they’re the ones cutting funding to absolutely everything, they’re the ones not wanting to look at our justice system so that offenders get adequate punishment for the crimes they commit rather than a slap on the wrist. I would also go as far as they don’t want immigration to not be a problem because how on earth would they get you to vote for them then??

Time to think sensibly again ...

Growing up we pensioners either didn't have a TV or owned one small black and white one with two channels. As a youngster my annual holidays were spent in Bridlington. I was 7 before dad owned his first car. We didn't have central heating and kids walked to school. Those lucky enough had a house phone - mobiles weren't invented. I now feel that we deserve our pensions protecting to enable us to enjoy the rest of our lives.

Fast forward to today. Young people have a car, at least one large colour TV with many channels, take holidays abroad with family and/or friends; expect central heating in every room and drive their kids to school. They own a mobile each, along with a PC, laptop, tablet and/or games console. Yet, some complain about pensioners being paid their pensions.

So, I feel that pensioners deserve our pensions. Young adults will one day be grateful for theirs.
This is so silly.

Yes I want a party who will sort this country out, economy, housing etc but when the leaders of the all the main parties particularly those on the left couldn't answer straight what a woman is then you lose faith.

I've become completely disillusioned with politics. I honestly think that 90% of them are all the same. Feeding from the same trough and completely out of touch with why they are in their job in the first place. Yes I agree it's time for a change but Labour and the Torries are no different, just a different scale perhaps? I mean you have torries and the covid nonsense, dubious contract hand outs between friends, then you have Angela Rainer 'voice of the working class' dodging second home tax and profiting on a bought ex council property. Not to mention the SNP corruption in Scotland that is all coming out in the wash. I do not believe a word any of them say I really don't.

The amount of money floating about in government salaries is also disgusting, civil servants on three figure salaries, half of them probably still 'working from home', ridiculous expenses claims from MPs...the whole thing is corrupt to the core. But do you know what....I don't have the answer, I will still vote, who for? I honestly don't know but I think the only thing I can base my vote on at the moment is the local picture not the national one because nothing will change that. I'd rather vote for an MP who I think helps and gets involved with local people and local issues over the party in charge because it's just more of the same at top level.

Then why didn't he join the forces then?

I think it's so easy to answer those kind of questions when it's not actually applicable to you. When it's theoretic. Take the choice away and make it mandatory..well that's a different story.

National service ended in what...1960? All these generations deciding what 18 year olds should be forced to do whilst not having to do it seems a bit... hypocritical?
It is. Maybe they should introduce a similar national service for over 65s where their triple lock pension is dependent on them carrying out national service tailored to their physical capabilities.

Also all these people saying "id love to have done x and x experience would help" forget that so few would be selected for the military and goodness knows what they'd actually be doing. Most of the suggestions require extensive training suggesting other options would be more basic.

When labour get in the culture wars will be on steroids, after the Cass review and what happened to Sturgeon over letting a man in womens prison they are still insisting they want to make it easier for young people to transition. They just don't learn or listen that people have had enough of this bullshit.

You are of course, perfectly entitled to believe what you want. You clearly do not know any people who have transitioned and what they experience so maybe accept that they have every right to be accepted for what they believe they are?
I have and they are all mentally disturbed, and definitely autogynphiles

I couldn't vote for a party whose leader thinks some women have a penis so that simplifies matters for me.
The main political parties are all shit - there should be much more choice to represent a range of views but this is not the situation voters are faced with. If you are unable to define what a woman is then how can you protect their rights?
I am a single issue voter whose primary interest is supporting the rights of 51% of the population, this is a hill I will die on.
I'm with you all the way on this issue.

You may not use a service you're taxed for, but its existence still benefits you.

Education, free or otherwise, is part of what makes society civilised and productive.

Your kids might not go to state schools but this country is better for the fact that kids can learn at no cost to their parents and grow to be adults who contribute to society and the economy.

And if for some reason parents can no longer pay for schooling, they can be safe in the knowledge their kids will get an education regardless.

Oh so disabled toilets, if needed, are only for those with a vagina then?!
No they’re for people with a disability. What a weird question??

They are generally unisex. There are indeed non disabled unisex toilets out there. However toilet etiquette as I’ve understood it is to leave the disabled toilet to the disabled person. Ditto the disabled parking space. And it’s an act of supreme selfishness not to.

Perhaps I could understand the trans debate more if you could link me an explanation as to how one changes one’s biology at a chromosomal level to change sex, spontaneously growing the necessary body parts? One that doesn’t involve clownfish or blokes in dresses talking about the feelz…..

I know 😭.

Imagine if everyone then took the same stance against GPs because of Harold Shipman?

Or God forbid you have to visit a male GP as a woman. How do they cope?
I can make the choice to see or not see a male GP. I don't have the choice not to share a space such as a domestic violence shelter or hospital ward with a male person if they are forced on me.

It’s very easy to be critical of people when you have zero idea of what goes on in their heads but I guess it is easier to generate them and say they are deranged rather than try and have some understanding of what they are experiencing. Is it so hard to show a bit of respect for another human being just because you are unable to understand their condition?
---
Another attempt by the Tories to deflect from their problems and to smear Labour members has failed. Angela Rayner has been found not to have done anything wrong in selling her home. Yet another complete waste of time and money.
Yeah just #bekind, other people's feelings are more important than your rights 🙄

Has there ever been a uk prime Minister that didn't royally fuck things up for the common people or screw us over in some way? I'm only 33 so my memory of them only goes as far back as Tony Blair.

I honestly don't think it matters anymore. Labour..tories.. conservatives..they only serve themselves.

There's that famous saying by Mark Twain "If voting made any difference they wouldn't let us do it."

I think people really mix up what 'pensioner' means these days.

I'm a millennial, when I was little, my grandparents, pensioners, were the war generation and lived in very meagre houses. My Nan had a house that sold for 100k last year in a rough area. My Grandad was in a little flat. My Great grandparents had a cheap bungalow. neither women worked and my grandads worked in a factory and on a train.

But my child, a gen Z, her grandparents are also pensioners, baby boomers, but they have lived well paid professional careers, made money, own more than one house. And at 65 while retired and classed as pensioners, are not old or vulnerable at all!

I just think there's a huge difference between '1980s pensioner' and '2024 pensioner' and a lot of it has had to do with their demographic and opportunities.

IMO, as I have always said, if the wealthy and privileged (and yes I'm sorry, if you're sending your kids to private school you DO fall into that bracket even if you're sacrificing cars and holidays and houses to do so) had no other option but to send their kids to state schools you would find that very quickly the money would be found to improve them.

Well, the government have certainly done a sterling job convincing people the reason for shit public services is immigration and not years of deliberate and chronic underfunding.

So, I feel that pensioners deserve our pensions. Young adults will one day be grateful for theirs.

Are you actually serious?

I'm not sure what age you are thinking of, but I'm mid 30s. I live in a council house (very grateful and lucky to buy the way), we can't afford to pay for driving lessons, let alone afford to run a car, haven't been abroad since 2016 for my honeymoon because we can't afford it, we do have some luxuries in a pc, games console, streaming services and phones. But we bought most of our luxury items back before we had kids, our TV is at least 10 years old, most of the stuff we actually now buy is second hand or free of Facebook groups as we barely afford new items...

I don't begrudge people being paid their pension, but I don't think you can sit there and say young people will get it one day and that it's fair that pensioners get it guaranteed to rise, while everyone else struggles on the bare minimum to get by and still pays into the pot for the state pension.

They will continue to raise the age until they scrap it completely. And it's always used a tactic for conservative votes because that is the age of their core voter base. If they didn't have that to consider to keep their votes coming, they would have scraped it already.

And let's not get me started on how, despite you not getting all the luxuries people have now, that people could easily get on the property ladder, benefited from free further education, had the best of the NHS, best of benefit access...

There isn't really a party who cares about people like me, mature but not elderly adults who have health problems and are unable to work. In fact most actively and openly despise people like me.

Infact, I can't even vote because I don't have photo ID. If I could, I would be so tempted to spoil my ballot as a form of protest.

It all feels so helpless.

You're right it does seem that way. Thing is you may still need to use the NHS even if you have private healthcare.

Private hospitals have no ITU, limited or no blood stocks, no emergency care. Imagine opting out of paying tax because you haven't used these services yet - would they then expect to not be treated by the NHS in case something goes wrong?
Exactly. Hilariously that poster said they use the NHS for GP appointments anyway so they are using it.
Also, the whole point is that schooling and healthcare should be good enough for everyone that nobody needs to be buying premiums for either. They’re basic services, it shouldn’t be the case that you only get decent care and education if you’re rich ffs. Not the same as having a free market for luxury food that you don’t actually need, healthcare and education are basic rights
