I’m in favour of closing the vat loophole too as it’s inherently unfair and in my view will help raise the quality of state education. I resent being told I’m jealous or stupid for holding this view. It’s very easy to be critical of people when you have zero idea of what goes on in their heads but I guess it is easier to generate them and say they are deranged rather than try and have some understanding of what they are experiencing. Is it so hard to show a bit of respect for another human being just because you are unable to understand their condition?

Maybe they wouldn't attack, maybe they would. We just don't know and shouldn't have to take that risk. It's such an intimate space where you let your guard down as you half undress.
There are varying degrees of trans and there are very perverted ones that only partly commit to pretending to be women. The ones that wear their straggly hair in bunches, mini skirts, badly applied make up. The ones whom just call themselves women and don't bother with women's clothing or makeup but still insist they have the right to female changing rooms.
It's irregular and they immediately set our alarm bells ringing, being seen in public looking like lily savage, it's unsettling and scary,a man with mens strength, possibly mentally unwell.....

They are all men though however they present - they can look like Hayley Cropper (incidentally played by a woman), Eddie 'Suzi' Izzard, or Dylan Mulvaney - but they are all male-bodied men who feel they have the right to push their way, uninvited, into women's safe spaces.

For me it's the complaining about too much focus on gender issues and not enough focus on other areas of women's rights as if the two are a totally different issue and not inextricably linked.

Yes, they are not separable. If you look beyond the surface you quickly see that not only are women’s rights and protections being erased, but also women themselves- the very language used “birthing person” instead of mother, “person with a cervix” instead of female, “chest feeding”, you get the picture. This is ingrained in our organisations and major policy now and this is a big consideration for me and my prospective vote.

I wasn't going to say anything for being flamed but I'm also hearing of alot young people who are thinking of voting Reform. I wasn't aware of Tik Toks influence but now that makes sense.

I don’t think you should be shot down for admitting that reform have more support than people realise. It might not translate to them winning any seats but people are obviously responding to what they are saying so to my mind that makes it worthy of discussion, even if you disagree with them, it’s a democracy after all.

Well, we're a week into the proceedings and labour still can't tell us exactly what they're going to do, or how anything will be funded.

The country feels confused. But what everyone needs to remember is that in the last few years so many important events have taken place that have contributed to where we are now.

Brexit; a pandemic that shook the world and cost countries billions; the war in Ukraine which affected the price of food as well as the large number of refugees we have welcomed to the UK; the boats bringing even more people here.

These things alone contribute to housing, health, education, work placements, the cost of food, etc.

I’m completely clear on Labours plans and comfortable that they have a rough idea of how they’ll fund them. I accept their reasoning that they can’t know what they’ll be dealing with financially until they get into power and see the books, because that’s obvious. It’s good that they’re not making promises they don’t know they can keep. Unlike the Conservatives who lie like they breathe and have had 14 years to get their act together.

If you’re confused and not sure what Labour have to offer, that’s because you don’t want to listen to what they are actually saying. The mental gymnastics required to continue to be a Tory party apologist at this point must be exhausting.

Brexit - engineered and brought to fruition by the Tories, who then failed to even try and make it work.

Covid and Ukraine - happened 10 years and 12 years after the Tories came into power.

Showing your ignorance of private schools . A lot of them offer bursaries. I and some of my colleagues were recipients.

Hence why I said "I am highly sceptical that anyone on minimum wage at pizza express is paying in full to send their kids to private school".

The majority of attendees at private schools are not the children of parents on minimum wage at Pizza Express, and the fact that private schools offer some bursaries to lower income families does absolutely nothing to alter the fact they are a major driver of social inequality in the UK.

Also what's with the boomer narrative of "we worked hard for our money"? Both my FIL and my Dad were home by 4pm every evening, never worked weekends and both were retired by 60. By contrast my husband regularly works 12 hour days, weekends and both of us are going to be working well into our 70s.

Aren’t we all just human beings needing to use the toilet? If I had my way all toilets would be private cubicles and made unisex. Then whatever sex/gender identity someone has would be an irrelevance.

What about male bodied 'trans women' in women's prisons, women's sports, Domestic Violence sanctuaries, rape crisis centres? Is that ok if it is your sister or your daughter that is subjected to that?

The trans issue is so much more than "I just wanna pee" - it is disingenuous to reduce protecting womens sex-based rights to an argument about men who say they are women and which toilets they should use.

Are you as bothered by the reverse then, trans men in men’s only spaces? Or do you only care about women’s spaces?

If biological women are being questioned how could your policy of female spaces for females enforceable?

You're naturally never going to have a perfect resolution.

To me toilets are much less of an issue than women's prisons, domestic violence shelters and women's sport.

Time to think sensibly again ...

Growing up we pensioners either didn't have a TV or owned one small black and white one with two channels. As a youngster my annual holidays were spent in Bridlington. I was 7 before dad owned his first car. We didn't have central heating and kids walked to school. Those lucky enough had a house phone - mobiles weren't invented. I now feel that we deserve our pensions protecting to enable us to enjoy the rest of our lives.

Fast forward to today. Young people have a car, at least one large colour TV with many channels, take holidays abroad with family and/or friends; expect central heating in every room and drive their kids to school. They own a mobile each, along with a PC, laptop, tablet and/or games console. Yet, some complain about pensioners being paid their pensions.

So, I feel that pensioners deserve our pensions. Young adults will one day be grateful for theirs.

Mine aren't- if you'd read my posts you'd see that enough labour MPs have a sufficiently nuanced view on this issue that I feel comfortable voting for them. I wouldn't vote Green because they are properly all in with the "TW are women" lot.

However I think it's very telling that people consider women's rights to be an absurd thing to base a vote on but wouldn't consider say, racism, to be an unreasonable red line.

Racism is abhorrent as is misogyny. Can you imagine the outcry if the question had been what makes a person black? And keir starmer and the rest said ' well 99 percent of black people are black except the 1 per cent who are white and really love Stevie Wonder! That's how bloody ridiculous it was!

And perhaps let’s not start blaming people for when they were born? There were, are and will be issues for all generations all of the time. Digging people out for being born shortly after the war isn’t going to help. If you want to go on about the benefits of being born at a certain time I can tell you that their is a reason that people are living longer nowadays and are generally physically better off is because of the huge steps forwards in health care. For all of the problems seeing a dentist or with the NHS I would not want to go back to the 50’s or 60’s.
Every body needs a decent income, including pensioners who don’t often have a choice of working or getting an income from elsewhere.
As for owning your own home, why is that such a big deal? If you go to the US many people rent. We are used to the idea that an Englishman’s home is his castle but things change and maybe we should reset our expectations, especially if we are telling the older generations that they have to lower their expectations too.
I know several people who have had to take the equity out of their property in order to meet their financial obligations. The more pensioners have to do this the more their dependents will lose in their inheritance.
We are one society and all play a part, have played a part and will continue to play a part in that society until we die. Why criticise others when we are all part of the same society and rely on each other to get by?

Maybe you should give up your home and rent then, see how you find paying £900+ for a single room in a houseshare.

At least then you won't have to worry about paying off a mortgage and as you say, owning your own home isn't such a big deal.

Wasn't it your generation who bought up all the council houses leaving very little in terms of social housing for next generations? Most of whom now rent off a boomer landlord many times the price of what it originally cost to rent?

Anyone who has grown up visibly foreign knows that this country often does not feel like a welcoming place despite certain members of the right thinking that refugees get a free ride. Attitudes like strangebuttrue's are always lurking just below the surface.

Even in my case, when my mum is full on white blonde British, and I was born and raised here, and I sound very British, because I have slightly brown skin and a foreign name, I am constantly being asked where I am "really" from, having my name absolutely butchered and people say "ooooh that's a mouthful" and so on. Don't think those who don't have this happen to them realise how consistently wearing it is, like I have to prove my right to exist here, even though I am a British citizen and have never been anything else. Witnessing as a child people tutting at my Dad and I on the bus for speaking another language, people calling him a "paki" (when he's not even from that part of the world!), loud passive aggressive comments from white relatives about immigrants. It doesn't half grind you down.
