Hi all, I am just about to start TTC, I’m 28 and haven’t been pregnant before. I stopped taking my pill yesterday.

I’ve been having a little read through and lots of your posts have been super helpful as I think I was quite naive to it all and figured I just stop taking my pill and hope it happens.

Am going to get some of the pre conception vitamins tomorrow so thanks to those who recommended them.

In terms of the ovulation tests and tracking things, should I start using them right away? Or would you all initially just hope for the best and if it doesn’t happen after a few months start tracking? Sorry for all the questions x

The ovulation test is a tricky one - when I first wanted to conceive my son we just had sex every other day (estimating ovulation from an app)
The positive to OPK is that you know what your body is doing BUT it can be obsessive and stressful, so I think it depends on your personality and how you like to deal with things. This is my first cycle using them, and I found it helpful to pinpoint roughly ovulation but I can see on equal measures why people would find it consuming.

I stopped taking the pill in August ish last year. It took way way longer than I thought for my periods to come back and even since they came back they’ve been all over the place. We’ve stopped trying not to get pregnant and will see what happens rather than actively trying every month. It’s taking way longer than expected though😮

I had a bleed about a week after I stopped taking the pill and then 32ish length cycles after that.

I did a few cycles without the OPKs and found I didn’t really know what I was doing/if I was having sex at the exact right point. Using them meant I knew when high/peak fertility was but it does get very obsessive - I was constantly peeing on sticks!!

When I came off the pill I naively thought my period would come back straight away but it took 45 days then settled into normal cycle. I found using an app first to log symptoms then progressed onto the clear blue OPK.

@calmyourritas im doing ok! 9dpo. Feeling a little crampy, not sure if that’s the right word. My tooth started bleeding randomly and I’ve spent the whole weekend burping 😂 I also take SO long to get to sleep at the moment, staying cautiously hopeful!
How are you doing? ❤

Back from the nurse, feeling positive about it. Should have results of the swabs by the end of the week and if they are clear the nurse will get the doctor to refer me for scans. I have been told to lose some more weight but that was to be expected and I have been making progress with that already.

It can be a bit of a mine field to learn everything about ttc and our cycles, there’s so much stuff that we were never taught at school! If you download one of the period tracking apps there should be a ttc mode which may give you tips but also will tell you your fertile period based on period dates over time. I personally think Premom is the best.

luckily the internet has a wealth of information these days so easy to learn about it, I like the tfab page on Reddit too, lots of seasoned ttc’ers on there.

Thank you all for responses 💖

I’m going to start by getting an app and tracking that way, get some vitamins and start trying ASAP once I’ve had my withdrawal bleed from stopping my pill.

Good luck with all your journeys, I’ll be reading and keeping my fingers crossed for us all 🤞🏻💕

Anyone else half way through tww? I'm due on Sunday, not entirely sure when I ovulated as didn't use opks this month. Trying to stay strong and not test early this cycle but its so hard 😂

just over half way for me! I’m 9DPO and my temperature dropped last night, I was hoping it could be an implantation dip but I feel so crampy and headachy that I feel like AF is about to arrive.

Hi everyone, been lurking for a while so hope you don’t mind me joining in. I’m very new to TTC but JLXRD post gave me the confidence to post here! 🥰 huge congratulations to those who have had recent positives.

I’m 28 and came off pill (after 12 years 😫) in Oct 2020 been TTC ever since. I’m only using Clue app to track cycle, bought Boots strip ovulation tests and found them confusing so didn’t bother with anything else. I know some of you mentioned the ClearBlue ones but there were so many different types I didn’t know where to start 😂

I just finished up my 6th natural period which has been quite regular fortunately, but I don’t find I feel any different now to when I was taking the pill! A bit grumpy in the days leading up to AF but no ovulation cramps.. It’s making me worried - wondering if you guys would recommend starting the OPKs or if I should talk to my doctor? Really appreciate any advice you have , I feel a bit lost with it all and don’t want to waste the doctors time when they are inundated with covid related issues.

I know it’s still so early days for us, my heart breaks hearing of how long some of your journeys have been 😔 baby dust to you all xxx

I would have a look at the different OPK's to see what ones you may like to try, I agree the boots strip ones are confusing! I would try the ones that you just pee on a stick like a pregnancy test, way easier! You can try taking some prenatal vitamins too, I think someone suggested some a few pages back. If you don't like using OPK's, you can track your CM or try recording your BBT. In regards to seeing your doctor, I mean this in the nicest way possible as I know how TTC is so difficult for everyone, because you haven't been trying for too long I doubt they would do much, and would possibly give the old tripe of 'you haven't been off the pill that long' etc. The NHS usually suggest trying for 2 years before seeing your GP, or 1 year if you have a gynaecology diagnosis (PCOS, endometriosis etc). I hope this has been somewhat helpful and not a long ramble! :ROFLMAO:

agree maybe try a cycle with the clearblue one so it’s quite obvious. I think that would be the first step to figure out if you’re ovulating/about to and then you could go from there. BBT might be another shout (I’ve never tried it!) but I believe that’s the only way to be certain you’ve ovulated.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong but you’d not have a period if you didn’t ovulate?

Think I am now approx 12dpo, stupidly took an early detection test because I’ve been sick the past couple of days but not unwell and been nauseas all week (I have suffered with HG with previous pregnancies so that sickness hits me from the second that ball of cells implants basically 🙃). It was negative anyway so I dunno - I think if the hormones are high enough to make me sick it should be a hint of positive at least.

Have also been having serious bloating, feeling crampy like af is going to start (that’s gone now thankfully!), feeling quite hot all the time and so tired but having really vivid weird dreams etc. So now I’m just worried something else is wrong with me 😅 so frustrating anyhow. Also if this is the way my PMS is now every month then I am OUT. Hope everyone’s ok xxx

I’m 5dpo today, it goes so slowly does it! This week I’ve got loads of good things to do like nails and hair appointment so that will hopefully make the time pass quicker.
pinkstock- most people will track bbt and do opks to detect proper ovulation, however bbt is the only sure way to know if you are ovulating as the opks detect lh which your body makes to gear up for ovulation but you can still not ovulate even with positive opk, if that makes sense. Also you can still have a period if you’ve not ovulated as the body still sheds the lining it’s made in the uterus but cycle lengths would be unpredictable I think.
good luck sailorontheseasea!
