Thank you for your reply! My doctor literally told me nothing like that.. I’m guessing it was because it was a quick over the phone chat instead of face to face? But they did say they’d refer me to fertility. I’ve done a whole afternoon of googling and now I don’t know if I feel better or worseI’ve been off contraception for 4 or 5 years now with PCOS although not trying but if it happened it would have been fine and have now been trying since December. I was only diagnosed in 2019 but the doctors didn’t give me much advice either, ive had friends that have it and conceived naturally quite quickly. The doctor just told me about the risks of womb cancer if you don’t bleed enough and when I asked about children, said it may happen naturally. I wonder if they won’t want to scare us too much?
Thank you for your reply! It all started because I had a period in September, then nothing until the end of December and have had nothing since then. I contacted the doctors in November and they gave me the whole “it’s just your body getting used to no contraception” which felt a bit off as I came off at the start of 2020. So just plodded along, and then at the end of January I had enough so went back which is when they agreed to do the tests.I also got diagnosed with PCOS in July last year. My cycles were quite regular but long (62 days) and I was told by the doctor I almost definitely wasn’t ovulating with a cycle that long. They said they would refer me to sub fertility after six months of ‘proper’ trying (we hadn’t been using contraception for a year at that point). Anyway I pretty much thought the trying was a formality and I would need treatment but I got pregnant on my second tracked cycle. In my first one I ovulated on day 51, but on my second I ovulated on day 30 so I am assuming if I had not gotten pregnant that would have been a 42 day cycle not 62. Unless you can ovulate 30 days before a periodI have been trying to lose some weight so maybe it was that. Anyway, my point is I thought it was impossible and we even decided to stop trying for a while then I found out I was pregnant. So absolutely possible to get pregnant naturally.
The thing that led to me being diagnosed was not getting a period in April last year, I went three months with no bleeding. They gave me a course of provera which seemed to start things off again but I still had the long cycles.
They say using OPKs isn’t accurate for PCOS but I would do it for a couple of cycles anyway and see what you’re working with- if you only get one peak per cycle then it can be a good indicator of when to have sex- my doctor told me to not bother and just have sex every other dayNo thanks lol
So my advice- tell the doctor you are trying and get them to confirm when they will refer you to fertility. Track your cycles and see what you can gleam from that- OPKs and bbt. And try the natural PCOS ‘remedy’ which is healthy eating and exercise if you have any weight to lose. It will be ok xx
I have a “normal” BMI so not considered overweight and my doctor said this is probably why it was overlooked (by a different doctor) as PCOS.
I’m glad I finally have an answer - even if it’s the answer I don’t want but at least there are options.
My doctor said they will refer me to fertility and to keep trying until then, I’ll definitely invest in some OPKs for when my husband returns from his deployment (in 2 weeks!). I did lie and tell the doctor I’ve been trying every month for a year because I know they probably wouldn’t have referred me if I was completely honest.
I will keep my head up and keep trying! xx
