I’m very spooked by old clocks and old mirrors. Something about the things they have seen/ been active during.
I have both in my house and nothing untoward has happened. :)

My Mother told me she did a Ouija board when she was young and the windows broke. She wasn't the sort of person to tell ghost stories either. When I was a kid the 1950's council flat I lived in was very creepy. I think children in particular attract certain energies. I saw a face looking out our window when we were outside and no one was indoors. I remember waking up as a very young child to something hitting the bottom of my bed over and over, and I have a vague memory of something touching my lower leg when i was in bed. Even my Mother admitted to me when I was an adult that there was something not right with the place. Thankfully we moved when i was 10 years old. Another flat on the same road featured in some ghost book cos a piano used to start playing on its own.

I never really believed in ghosts but something really odd happened today.

I was cooking dinner and left the pasta to simmer at very low heat in the saucepan. I left a wooden spoon in the saucepan and went to sit on the couch while waiting for the pasta to cook. I have an open kitchen, so I can keep an eye on the stove.

Suddenly, out of the blue, the wooden spoon that was sitting in the saucepan got thrown onto the floor in the middle of the kitchen. I had been sitting on the couch for 5 minutes at that point when I heard the spoon hitting the floor. I look around only to see the wooden spoon on the floor and the pasta simmering as normal. I thought the water had boiled over or something but no, it was fine.

I’ve no clue how to explain how the wooden spoon went from sitting in the saucepan to being thrown onto the floor. This has never happened before. It’s not like I’d left a window open or someone had walked by - there was nothing. Super odd.

This happened to me last year but I almost got smacked with the spoon 🤣🤣

There is an account on insta of a woman who visits old graves in the US and cleans them up. I’ll try to find it and share. Really nice to watch her make the headstones look nice again ❤
I absolutely hate it when people clean headstones. Part of their beauty is the hands of time having weathered and stained them.

If it's the one I'm thinking of she usually repairs them. They're really old dilapidated ones that have had absolutely no care.

I was skimming through the ‘things that scared you as a child’ thread and I remembered something I haven’t thought about in years. There was a tree stump in the back garden of the house I grew up in that I was weirdly drawn to. It had a small hole in the middle but I was always scared to look too closely, especially when it had been raining and it filled with water. I don’t know how to explain it properly but I remember feeling so strongly like there was something inside or beyond it and if I looked too closely I’d get sucked in 😂

It was probably just my imagination running wild but as a kid I was absolutely convinced it was a portal to another world.

Hello, new poster on this thread but have been an avid reader and love everyone’s stories and theories, it’s all so fascinating. I wanted to add my own experience to see what people think.

So for about a year my bedside lights have turned themselves on and off. It is always quite random, has happened in all weathers, warm, cold, morning, night etc. Our en suite bathroom light will also flicker on and off randomly…very freaky when you are having a shower though that has only happened to me twice. For context we have had the same bedside lights for 5 years, bulbs changed as often as needed and it was only a year ago this a stated.

But what makes me think it may be something a little paranormal is the fact that I work in care home and a lady passed away there about a year ago just around the time this began. I live directly across the road from where I work and my bedroom window (4 story house) looks towards the window of the room which would have been this lady’s room.

Since she passed away the night staff in work in particular have had experiences around her room and we actually had a minister in to preform a blessing not long after because of this. (We are a religious run home)

I don’t get a sinister vibe from our lights coming on and off, at least not anymore that we have gotten used to it and it is still a bit freaky when it happens and you are in the room to see it.

My husband is a complete non believer and had checked the connections and everything with a multimeter and taken the plugs apart and nothing to suggest a reason why the lights would just come on so even he is at a loss to explain it scientifically… a fact he is greatly annoyed by!

Sorry for the long post, but would be very interested to hear some thoughts on this, it’s a weird one.

This is so interesting! A lot of world mythologies/religions equate water as a portal to other realms and I can speak from an Irish perspective that trees and water are very closely linked to ‘other worlds’ and the ‘sidhe’ who would often steal babies and children…maybe best you stayed away!

Ah I’m so glad you said this! I liked this tweet last year with a view to looking into the Celtic otherworld (I’m Scottish) and totally forgot about it so I’m going to spend my lunch hour doing some reading!

Ok so here’s my experience, from when my FIL died. At his funeral I was standing on the far side of his grave, opposite my husband and all his family, as they were going to shovel soil, I wasn’t, and the depth of the hole was making me queasy.

Anyway, there was an enormous, turquoise- bodied dragonfly flying insistently around all his close family members. None of them seemed to notice it but it stayed for ages.

Several months later my husband and I moved to the coast. When we arrived we went down to the seafront for a little celebration. Despite the fact that it was November, a turquoise-bodied dragonfly joined us again, right on the beach, by the sea.

So something creepy happened to me tonight, lying in bed talking to a friend on FaceTime, nobody else in the house, all of a sudden I heard a knock on my bedroom door, she heard it as well, I did pluck up the courage to check & made sure everywhere was locked but this isn’t the first time it’s happened either, really strange.
The same thing happened to me, except the knocking wasn’t on my bedroom door, it came from inside my wardrobe! Absolutely terrified me.

I have just had a paranormal encounter and I am very excited about it!

Close to where Iive, there are two schools. By the field of one of the schools, is a bus terminus/turnaround inlet, for the school buses. This area has always felt eery. At the other side of the schools is a grave and something else that looks like a very strange grave at the bottom of a stream. The schools are surrounded by a mix of woodland and houses.

I went for a walk this evening and stopped for a while in the bus terminus at the school. It felt serene and I felt a sense of contentment. I was looking across at the houses with my back towards a small wooded area. After around three minutes, I heard sounds. These sounded like voices, human voices but not as though they were present with me, they sounded like they were distorted, as though played through a low quality speaker. I was scared initially but, being interested in the paranormal, I came back to look closer. It was dark, I could hear but not see. Had it been youths, I surely would have seen the light of a cigarette or a mobile phone screen, but I saw nothing, no movement in the bushes. The noise became more coherent and I started to hear laughter. The laughter became very coherent. As I marvelled at the bushes, I saw a rope of dark light fire out of the bush towards me. I believe this to be an orb.

I then saw a beautiful shephard type dog come out from the gate next to the bushes. The dog seemed elated. It didn't behave like normal dogs. Normal dogs would be weary when emerging from a gate, stop, look around and walk in a zig zag style pattern. This dog came out of the gate and straight towards me, in a very straight line, as though it was a computer animation. It came towards me, its tail wagging. I said hello. It did not touch me and I got the sense that if I reached my hand out, I would not feel anything. He then turned around, in a robotic fashion and went back through the gate, seemingly soundless.

I expected a dog walker to follow behind and out of the gate, but nothing. There was no human that appeared, even though I waited around a while to see. There were no torches, no sounds of footsteps. I can't recall the dog even having a lead or a harness.

I am convinced this was a ghost dog, and possibly a ghost walker. I am normally wary of dogs that approach me, but with this dog, I was not scared, I felt calm and inquizitive.

I think back to when I saw the ghost of a Dickenzian woman in my living room. I felt no fear at the time. I don't believe that ghosts are scary. Though, the mere thought of them can bring us excitement and fear. It's a false fear, like when we do a skydive, we know that there are safety procedures in place, but we still fear and enjoy the fear.

What an interesting walk I have had this evening. There is something about walking in the dark that sparks intrigue. My intrigue certainly paid off this evening.

just want to throw this out there to see if anyone else has experienced what I experience. Basically, I am what you would call a highly-sensitive person. I'm also intrigued by old things, vintage stuff and the like. My problem is, when I go into a charity shop, antique shop, or auction room to have a browse, I get all kinds of weird vibes off the items, shivers down my spine, to the extent that I have to get out of there quickly, often feeling nauseous too. Its a horrible. Has anyone else experienced similar, I wonder?

Your story is amazing. Thanks for sharing. And I totally believe you - I've had quite a few paranormal experiences myself.

What a great story! To me, rather than it being a ghost dog, this sounds more to me like an encounter with the fae, and an attempt by the fae to entice you into the trees where they were gathered. There are quite a lot of examples of this on the forteana forums.

Hope you don’t think I’m completely mad 😂

When I was a small child quite often for a period of time I used to see an old woman in my bedroom. She would stand at the foot of my bed and look sternly at me as if questioning why I was there. I remember what she looked like very well, she was wearing an old fashioned dress in navy blue with a hat and she had a large nose.

Whenever she appeared I would quickly pull the covers of my bed over my head and tell her to 'go away'. I would wait a few minutes then pull the covers back to find that she had disappeared again. Then I would be happy to go to sleep. I told my mum about her once but she just said I was probably dreaming.

Years later when I was an adult and visiting my mum at our childhood home I mentioned the woman in my bedroom again. I described her in detail to my mum and then she admitted that the description of the woman matched that of an old lady my parents had bought the house from who apparently always wore navy blue. Mum said that this woman had sold the house to my parents and moved away but died very shortly afterwards.

I guess my mum was just trying to protect me as a child by telling me that it was all a dream!
