I really miss the excitement of going into the Oxford Circus branch. It was before online shopping existed or had taken off meaningfully so there was an element of surprise when you went in there and saw things. I always came out of there with something. It was vast. And it felt like a really cool happening place to be. Can never recapture that.

God yeah. Entering into the accessories floor and eyeing up all the bags and jewellery. Going down the huge escalators to the main clothing area- so much choice and video walls! I still remember the blue coat I spotted from afar hanging down there that I bought and wore to death. Then downstairs to the more unusual ranges and the ‘fashion cafe’ which I used to eat at a lot in my college years- Cajun chicken and coleslaw, lol. It was just THE best place.
Topshop was my go-to all throughout uni, makes me sad. You could pretty much guarantee you could find something good and nice quality, yeah overpriced but now I feel like everywhere else has caught up in price and the quality is tit
One of the plain white Topshop vests I had has only just come apart (tore at the armpit). It must have been washed 100s of times. I think it dates from 2006-2008, not sure. Definitely pre 2010.

I LOVED the accessories floor at ground level. Always wondered how fire-safe the whole place was as most of it seemed to be underground.
I’m not from London but I remember visiting my friend who lived there at the time and I asked if we could go to the Oxford street topshop as I’d never been. Bought this black and lace 60s style dress and just about died when I saw the literal ceiling to floor wall of Chelsea boots. I ended up buying a pair of snakeskin ones. This would have been about 2009/10. It was one of my highlights of my trip

I've spent the past few days reading through the entirety of this thread after a Tattler mentioned fashion threads on the "Selling on Depop and Vinted" thread.
A few thoughts to add, if I may (I will try and keep my points succinct where I can so that I don't waffle too much)...

- Growing up, Topshop for me was an aspirational brand and was only worn by the "cool", popular girls in secondary school.
- Cue my journey into the world of Vinted earlier this year. I bought a light summer jacket which I absolutely adore and wore it pretty much every day when it was warm earlier this year, just to give me that additional bit of coverage, and plan to re-wear when it becomes warm again. I think it is one of their older pieces, judging by the label. Black with lace and floral embroidery.
- I then purchased another Topshop dress from Vinted and it was terrible. The material felt cheap, it wasn't finished in that it looked like someone had just cut the fabric into shape and it had no hem at all - just raw edges, and the fit was awful and made me look like I was about 12. It was so disappointing and immediately had to go into textile donation.
Jane Norman bags
- I had one of these for school! As well as the carrier bag for PE, of course. My bag was black with jane nor written in big, bold, pink font.
- I stopped using the bag after year 7 or 8 as I thought it became unpopular, then in year 10 I thought I'd bring vintage back, stop caring what others think so much, and started using the bag again. It was great as it could fit so much including a couple of A4 ringbinders. Mine became so worn that there were holes in the bottom corners. I then promptly threw it in the bin (I know...) as soon as my final GCSE exam was over but now I wish I'd kept it as I could maybe have sold it for parts or something
- New Look (and ASOS) seem to be the only places that produce petite clothing that fit me perfectly from the get-go.
- I haven't made any "new" purchases from either of those stores since last year, however, and have been finding clothes almost exclusively on the resale market. I've noticed that the quality of their clothing is dropping but remains overpriced for what it is. The ranges on their websites are also now too young for me (I'm 29), if that makes sense, and it's becoming very hard to find something that appeals.
- I am sad to see more and more New Look physical shops close down, but it's also not so surprising.
- My 2p on who I think will eventually acquire New Look if it ever comes to that: ASOS - because they already stock New Look items.
- This thread, and the linked Where to shop in your mid-30s thread, has inspired me to consider Boden for clothing going forward. I spent hours scouring eBay and Vinted last night, and found a gorgeous-looking summer dress which I'm looking forward to receiving and then wearing when it warms up again. Hopefully the British climate will not disappoint.
- Worst-case scenario: I'll have to get my sewing machine out and start making my own clothes from scratch!

I used to buy almost all my clothes from Topshop in its heyday. If I want to buy something of the equivalent quality now, I have to spend over double the amount at places like Sezane or Mint Velvet.
I really miss the affordable quality that Topshop offered. It makes me sad that younger generations don’t have access to anything like that and won’t have pieces that they cherish 15 years later.
I’m about to take a Topshop jacket from approx 2007 to be dry cleaned. The buttons have some wearing on them but other than that, it looks brand new! The cut is impeccable - you just don’t get cuts like that on high street anymore.

Didn’t think they would do such a good Black Friday deal otherwise I’d have waited and saved myself £22 (the pair I bought a month ago were £88, now selling on their website for £66).I went to Bicester Village yesterday and they were doing 20% off at Sweaty Betty for Black Friday, but the new style Power Leggings I like weren’t included (wasn’t that impressed to be honest with the discounts available at any of the stores, seemed a bit of a rip off still!)
Quite interesting video about how Black Friday is basically dying as shoppers aren't interested any more. A comment below explains how the poster works in a shopping mall and everything's becoming more experience led, like spaces to draw and chat etc. It made me think about how excited everyone is that HMV is reopening on Oxford Street- surely there's going to be nothing there people can't already buy online? But it's all about the experience and somewhere to hang out. That's sadly what people are craving with all this automation
As a previously obese teen (thinner now in my forties), this thread is making me sad in a nostalgic way, as I never fit into Topshop in the mid-90s. But I’m remembering being a bystander to all the aforementioned trends!! My peak Topshop era was in 2010 and they made all these structured mini dresses with pleats across the bodice - I bloody rocked that style, and still dig my remaining one out on occasion.
Joanie Clothing have got 40% off across the site for over a week - that made me think they might be struggling for sales this year. Joanie is nice quality but not cheap.
