I also could have written this! :D my son was 2 last October so a little older than your wee girl but they sound sooo similar! I find it so stressful too, I'm starting to dread nursery pick ups :(
At least we know we're not alone! 🙈😂

Does anyone know any good online resources for help with speech delay/SALT? We have a referral for my 2.5 year old but the waiting list is months and I’d love to do some extra stuff at home in the mean time. We already read to him loads, he loves books. We chat to him and narrate what we’re doing, what he’s doing etc. He can say a lot of words, just doesn’t use them in sentences or communicate very well. Thanks. x
Flash cards, stuff on YouTube, repetition defo! My daughter watches blippi no end and she knows at the end he says “let’s spell my name B L I P P I” and she says the letters out like he does and she’s 2.5 too, stick with it. Is there any SALT stuff online you can download for him xx

need somewhere to offload…today I broke down sobbing in front of my 2 year old while we were playing in the garden. Basically it’s a build up of emotions, I’m not sleeping more than 2 hours a night due to pregnant related ailments (this has been going on for weeks now), I’ve got a few decorating renovations going on which has been stressful on top of a bad week last week plus toddler son had a few tough days too. I now feel absolutely terrible as when I looked up he was standing all sad with his petty lip out. All I could do was give him a massive cuddle and the whole day I keep looking at him and feel absolutely terrible 😞
How are you feeling today? X

When he was 2. We bedshared for a while. He did have his own room he’d sleep in but he’d always wake up and end up in with me before 11pm. But we moved when he was 2 exactly around his 2nd birthday and I put my foot down, got him a toddler bed and made sure he stayed in there. Which he does! The odd night he gets in with us which I don’t mind, I like the cuddles 🥰

What sort of age does everyone recommend trying potty training? My boy was 2 in October and is showing a lot of signs. He’s peed in the potty twice now but admittedly we have not been the most consistent with it!
I tried with my daughter a couple of times but she wasn’t ready til she turned 3, she hated the toilet but she happily used the potty. Now she uses either depending on her mood. 😅 If he is using the potty I’d take that as my green light to ditch nappies and put him in pants, be consistent and he’ll be trained in no time!

Sounds exactly like me!! My son has not long turned 3 and is not saying any words. I think he may be mildly autistic as there’s a list of things he does which would be seen as autism. Waiting for referral to be sorted for hearing/salt/autism test. But I was same with my HV… had 2 year check and she just kept saying to hold off for any intervening because of his age.. she’s now completely ignoring me so I went directly through my GP in the end. He’s starting nursery soon and I’m pretty confident they’ll also pick up what we have with the autism etc. Hope you get it sorted it’s a horrible feeling I’ve been crying over it for days worrying about it all x
I’m exactly the same. I spend a lot of time worrying about it. He doesn’t have any signs of Austism and nursery haven’t said anything he’s been there a year now. He says the odd words like mama , daddy, bye , but most things are just non sense like baby babble. It really gets me down and we both get a bit frustrated when he can’t tell me what he wants. He shows me things he wants with his hand does a lot of pointing and taking me to things.

I knew it was a hormone but I keep seeing people say at 3 ect they're out at nights and wondering if there was anything I could do to encourage it.
She's been dry in the day since just after she was 2. So it's been quite a while!

Thank you though!
My daughter was 4 in October and absolutely not where near being dry at night. I try not to worry about it and figure she will get there in her own time.

I work til 6pm and once I’m home it’s dinner, bath and bed. I don’t like to let her use my phone that late cos she’ll expect it all the time. Plus a lot of the time he goes out after work cos you know, priorities. This weekend just past she begged him to stay for longer and he left anyway cos he was going out with his mates. He video calls her occasionally when he can be arsed.
Sorry he’s a waste of space. It sounds like you’re an amazing mum and I’m sure when she is older that she will realise herself x Can you start saying to her daddy is at work? When my daughters dad comes round on a Wednesday, he comes after work so when he leaves we say he’s got to go to work x

Hi all, picked my daughter up after work from her Grandads and he said she was in the worst mood ever when she woke up, he said she’s had an hour nap but she took 30 mins to stop being unhappy over being woken up. Bedtime is going well since I’ve really stuck to an hour nap .. I suppose she will get used to it won’t she? x she looks shattered.. chilled day for us tomorrow defo x
I always try and give a snack when they wake up from their nap.
Gives them time to sit and eat it and wake up a little 😂

I’m autistic and I also have two autistic girls and one who is NT. She started nursery on Friday. She did really well and managed for 2 hours before she got tearful. Of all my children she is the most clingy do I think this was a good start.
That sounds like she did really well!

Soz in advance for the mumsnet length of this question and the answer is probably really obvious but we are STRUGGLING with our 2 year old and bed time. He could be the most tired human on earth and he’ll still piss around for hours before going to sleep (Mr Sailor has cooked us a lovely romantic meal tonight and we ended up eating at 9:30 because he took so long to settle despite getting him bathed etc and in bed by 7:30)!

We have cut back his nap to 1-1.5 hours ending at 3pm and no later, he has to have a nap otherwise his night time sleep is atrocious and his day time attitude is ratty as hell from about 1pm onwards. He has no screens easily from about 4pm, tbh probably earlier if any at all if we’re out all day. No sugary snacks/anything that I’d say would make him hyperactive, especially in the evening. We attempt to wear him out as much as possible with a couple of hours of fresh air at least in the day, keeping him stimulated etc. It’s not even a case of him going to bed too early, he usually wakes for the day anytime from 7 onwards and he is usually “knackered” by 6 so we start bedtime then.

Our routine is:
5pm - dinner
6pm - up to bed, bit of playtime while I get everything sorted for bed, bath, book, listen to a short audiobook in bed, then bedtime meditation/mindfulness on the yoto box, then lights out and sleep time

My eldest goes to bed beautifully but my 2yo is just standing up, throwing his duvet covers off, trying to get out of bed, jumping up and down trying to wake his brother up etc etc. HEEEEELP! We’ve just had a baby so sorting him one handed his tricky as. Any advice pls help 🥴

Has she ever done a day without a nap? With my older 3 I found that when they were getting to the stage that bedtime was getting later/longer that they had done a day here or there without a sleep. So I would then cut it down so they didn’t give up their nap altogether, but they would have some days they didn’t nap, and some they did. My friend did it so her wee one napped on nursery days and not on home days. Not sure if that would be possible for you? Then on days she doesn’t nap pop her to bed earlier.
No, when we went away she lasted 8.5 hours of being awake before she caved in at 5pm (we was flying), but then bedtime was 10pm and she was screaming. I don’t think she’s ready to drop the hour nap yet, maybe In a few months.

She’s not big at all! My son feels like he weighs an absolute tonne but he’s not big at all … this is him when he’s sat down .. he doesn’t have any belly rolls he just feels really heavy
Yeah when you look at her she thin, just a pot belly that's tiny
But is heavy it weight yet I can still carry her in one arm.
I just feel people judge too much that it's a dig at me as I'm overweight. My MIL is a bitch when it comes to my weight & feel she judge her grandchild.

I guess her weight is fine then. I need to be off baby site groups.

How am I only just finding this thread???!?!?!?

My daughter is 2.5, she has been potty trained for wees since January and has been dry during the day ever since. However with a poos she just won't go on the toilet at all and has started either holding it in for days or having constant accidents as she wont tell me she needs to go other than saying "my bum hurts", so I would quickly put her on the toilet and she kicks off crying!! I am at a loss, she was constipated because of it and has been given laxatives in case it happens again :(

any tips?!
She’s still very young, so maybe just sort of leave her to it for a bit? Keep her hydrated and eating lots of things to keep everything moving and nice and soft etc - so she’s not having to strain for a poo or for it to be sore. When she does it, where does she do it? Just in her pants? If so, leave her to carry on - but make sure you are then taking her to the toilet to flush it, and then doing the whole bum wiping/hand washing etc and then changing pants etc - I’d really avoid having her in pull ups or nappies completely if you are still doing that.

Can you not just put a nappy on her for her to do a poo? Sorry that’s the only thing I’d think of if my 2.5 year old was in the same situ. I’m starting potty training once we are back from our holiday in June. I don’t even think she’s showing signs but going to give it a whirl x
I wouldn’t put a nappy on her, because it sort of then defeats the object of trying to toilet train. If she’s wearing normal pants, keep her in them!

May I just ask for some advice about encouraging a child to be more flexible? My toddler has just started nursery. She’s just turned 2 and the main reason I’ve started her so early is that she really needs the stimulation. However, she will only drink out of one cup. She is very ‘fixed’ about how she wants things. I need her to be able to drink out of a sports cup really. Otherwise this usual cup will spill over her stuff because it doesn’t have a lid.

We have a lot of autism in our family and she seems to have hyperlexia (counting to 20 already and can recognise letters) so maybe she’s on the spectrum but equally her social skills seem fine and she asks why questions. I’m guessing that nursery will tell me if they think anything needs investigation.

Any ideas on encouraging her to try new things?
Try removing the particular cup completely so it’s not an option? See how she reacts - but don’t make an issue of it or even mention it. Just give her a different cup and carry on what you are doing, see what happens.

My eldest was like this with climbing, and movement in general. She was woeful. She never crawled as a baby, and really struggled with climbing after that. She’s 9 now and she’s a great climber and mover! It’s like it’s not even the same child tbh. you shouldn’t feel bad as some kids are naturally just not as physically able as others. Maybe just giving her as many opportunities to develop those skills as you can, and as she wants. My eldest also wasn't overly interested in climbing and physical play like that until about 6/7.
you haven’t wasted any time at all. It has been winter and a cold spring, but now coming in to the warmer months she’ll naturally be outside more working on those skills anyway
She's great with other things like writing ect. She can write and spell her name, her sisters name, mummy, daddy ect. Knows all her phonics and can count to the 100s.
But I know once they get to school. Other kids won't see those parts. It'll be the fact she can't climb ect will be the things they see!

Hey looking for some tips please!

hoping to move our 2 year old from cot to bed next weekend (Easter weekend, bank holidays = doesn’t matter if he doesn’t sleep as no work 😂) and wanting advice to make it easy as possible! Do we go for a bed guard or has anybody used a bumper under the cover? Thank you :)
We used the IKEA VIKARE guard rail on his toddler bed once converted from the cot bed. It was perfect for stopping him rolling onto the floor at first. I involved him while I changed it into a 'Big boy bed', he was so excited and gave him an extra place to chill in his room as well as we had just dropped his nap and mid lockdown so spending more time at home. To my surprise he slept through all night on the first night, didn't get out of bed once even in the morning he still shouted to me once he woke up. He's generally really good at bedtime, happy with a couple of stories , nightlight left on and I leave him to fall asleep.

Hi not posted on this thread before (Hi 👋) but i need some advice.
**TMI warning**
I have a 4 year old boy, who refuses to poo on the potty or the toilet. With wee's he is fantastic, takes himself off to do them, never any wet accidents hes perfectly fine with wee's, Poo's however he flat out refuses, to the point where he he will have a wee, pull his pants up and poo his pants, ive tried to catch him doing it and put him on the potty or toilet, this caused a major meltdown, im hesitant in doing this again in case it embeds a fear. im completley at my wits end and really worried he wont be clean for school in September, i dont want him to be bullied. Has anyone ever come across this problem, can anyone offer any advice please?
I haven’t been through it personally, but coming from someone who has worked with children, he isn’t the only one that I’ve heard of that will not poo on the potty and is great at going for wees
Have you tried potty training books?

Thank you all! Appreciate the replies.

I'm looking forward to taking him! Is it decent for his age?
It's a really good family day out.
Even better when they're older and tall enough to go on the big rides. I took my son when he was 7 & he's now an adrenaline junkie😂

Hi guys. Just wondering if I can get some fellow parental opinions.

Took my 2.5 year old daughter to A&E Thursday night. Basically the childminder told me when I picked her up, that she's choked on some food at lunch and been sick, but that she was otherwise ok and just scared herself a bit mainly. Anyway, when we got home, she was hysterical, kept putting her fingers in her mouth, gagging, pulling these weird faces and sticking her tongue out and just generally miserable. So I rang 111 as I was worried that maybe some food was still lodged or something. The GP told me to go to A&E. They were a bit off with us and made us feel like we'd wasted their time, but they listened to her lungs and tried their best to look in her mouth (difficult!) and said nothing was there but maybe her throat was just sore from being sick or she was traumatised etc.
Roll on the next morning, she wakes up with a raging temp of 39.9. I instantly have visions of this being connected and her having bloody sepsis or something so we ring 111 again. After an age on hold, they say to wait for a callback from a GP. 5 hours later, the GP books us a face to face appointment. We turn up, GP is fuming we haven't done a lateral flow (my bad but I don't have any and I'm not paying!). Basically checks her temp which is lower by now as we've given Calpol etc, listens to her chest, checks briefly in her mouth and diagnoses tonsillitis.
NOW my issue is, the doc at the A&E the night before actually expressly said 'her tonsils are quite big but not red and definitely not infected'.
We've been given antibiotics (Penicillin V) but I cannot get them in to her for love nor money. 4 of us pinning her down and she still won't open her mouth and I've tried everything. She gets so distressed she then vomits and it's a waste of time. Can't put it in yoghurt or juice as it's bright orange, so she notices the colour change and the taste and just refuses it.

I know antibiotics are important but:

1) I'm wondering how two different GPs can have such differing opinions when they barely looked in her mouth in the first place.
Also she now has a runny nose and cough, which surely is a virus and ABs won't work?
2) Is it worth distressing my daughter and making her vomit? Disguising it is just not working and I'm worried she'll refuse to eat or drink even the tiny amount she is now having, as she suspects me of hiding it in her food.

If you read all this, thank you :)
Been through this! Took one of the kids doctors. Slight red throat, high temp, but nothing by the gp. Pretty sure her said viral 🙄 Not sure what happened next as it was a while ago, think the temp wasn’t coming down, and I took him up a&e. He had really bad tonsillitis. He was so poorly
I do find gps always say it’s viral but they always turn into something that needs antibiotics
I remember when my daughter was younger and it took 3 of us to pin her down to take the antibiotics and then threw up all over me 🙃 they don’t make them like they used to!
If i do struggle getting a certain one down, I ring the gp and they give me the other one x
