Trying to get one or two things a month bought his sister a few bits and him nothing

I do think some kids are easier to buy for than others, though! And girls are easy to stock up on "bits" for as well, I think.

Re: Christmas and birthdays - mini A is a January baby and she’s also got loads of toys! 23/24 her Xmas / bday present is Disneyland Paris in March 24 I’ll get her a few bits to open but I buy her stuff throughout the year anyway. I’d much rather go on holidays and experiences with her than buy anymore toys. With that being said she also will be at pre school 3.5 days from September and out the house more or less all day on a Wednesday too. Next Christmas I want to take her to Lapland as she will nearly be 5, she loves Santa at the moment so let’s hope it continues

I don’t really “get” them. They just seem like a very expensive way to have kids’ audiobooks?

RE tonies. I wish I hadn’t bothered. Get a kids Alexa which comes with 1 year amazon kids and they can listen to audible

I do really like the concept, it’s sort of like Pandora but for kids, so instead of a new charm at birthday/Christmas it’s a new story but definitely think it’s not the sort of thing most kids will really appreciate. I think they’re super cute, shame they’re not marketed for adults

I have the Yoto player and we really like it for bedtime. There are some good cards/podcasts on Spotify that are good movement activities that shake the afternoon slump off too. But you definitely could get all of that on Alexa/Spotify and the cards are quite expensive. We do have grandparents who love to overbuy at birthdays/Christmas so has been handy for us to limit the amount of plastic tat that comes in

Hi all, never commented on this thread but always had a nosy! Does anyone have any recommendations for potty training books, just to give me some ideas? She's been using the potty before bath time, before bedtime and in the morning since just after her 2nd birthday so we are getting there, just need some pointers to get rid of nappies all together. Not in any rush TIA

I like Oh Crap Potty Training. I don’t stick to it 100%, but I always reread it before starting again, and as we go through, it just gives me that wee confidence boost that I need. I think you find your own way and what suits you pretty quickly, though.

We also used the oh crap potty training book.

My daughter has a tonies box. We do use it every bedtime but at the moment every night it’s frozen so I’m going a bit mad You can record your own stories on them too so we’ve got a story read by nanny as she doesn’t live near us.

We love the yoto in this house, 2, 5 & 7 year old all use it for different stories. Infant the baby uses it through the day for white noise too. Much more longevity than Tonies we found.

For those who have children in nursery, can you let me know what is normal to expect of the sessions? We went to a stay and play for an hour at the school nursery my son is going to. He’ll only just have turned 3 when he starts.

I found the experience just chaotic. Kids chucking toys everywhere, not putting anything away, upturning piles of dry pasta and stamping on it. Snatching, a boy shouting in another boy’s face, a boy was in the toilet cubicle and other boys were chucking paint brushes and toys over the door while he was in there. None of the staff noticed.

I just feel like he’ll literally have just turned 3 years old and has never been to nursery before, I don’t want him to pick up bad behaviour or get lost in the crowd.

Am I overreacting? I just didn’t expect it to be like that! On a positive my son seemed to enjoy it.

Omg this sounds like the daycare on Toy Story 3. Wtf were the staff doing. Things like that don’t happen at my little ones nursery. I mean they do have things on the floor. Water gets spilt , toys get dropped but that sounds a bit mental.

That’s what I compared it to! I felt like the poor toys in toy story!

When I pick my daughter up from nursery I cannot hear myself think the rooms are so noisy but it seems organised chaos and the staff are on top of it. I’d be a bit worried about staff being oblivious.

The only thing that kind of sounds normal is the not tidying away. Nurseries I've worked at, we always tidy up at the end of each session.

The rest of it sounds a bit chaotic though

Yeah it’s hard because I have nothing to compare it to and I also tend to overreact and obsess over things.

The staff were nice but maybe just not enough of them? I don’t know if it was just a mad hour of play or what. Do you think I should raise my concerns with the school?

Well yeah I would. They might not be aware and not enough staff isn’t on really. Kids shouldn’t be shouting in each others faces. Snatching happens but usually the teachers would intervene I’d have thought
