Has anyone got a play sofa? I’m sick of telling my three year old off for jumping on the sofa and now my 8 month old is crawling it’s not safe as she falls off a lot too. We don’t have a garden and she’s a high energy kid so it’s exhausting for me to keep trying to harness her energy in different ways when clearly she just wants to throw herself around 🤣

My nearly 4 year old (4 in less than a month) had her tonsils removed at the start of August, and to cut a long story short, 8 days later suffered a large bleed and was hospitalized for a few days while they investigated. She is severely anemic and is now on multiple meds for the foreseeable.

She's not a lazy child, attends pre school full time as I work, so is on the go a lot. She has always been very very pale and they believe she will have always been anemic, I'm pale and blonde so we've always put it down to just her genes. While she is on the go at pre school, I cannot for the life of me get her to walk anywhere, and it's not from lack of trying either. She gets so tired and says her legs are tired. On Saturday I asked her to walk around town for a little while with the promise of a magazine, she tried her best but was so upset from feeling so tired. I am wondering if this is down to the anemia? For context the average 4 year olds HB levels are 120, my daughters were 70 and there is still a chance she will need a transfusion if her levels haven't risen at her next blood test.

I don't want her to rely on a buggy forever but I also don't want to put pressure on her health, she is already far too big for her current joie stroller (she's 105cm) but is under the weight limit (14.1kg).

I'm at a loss. I see so many children younger than her walking everywhere and I can tell people look at her when she uses it. :(
It certainly sounds like it.
The tiredness from anemia personally was crazy.
And from most people I know seem to say that tiredness and fatigue were their biggest problems!
How long has she got until her next blood test?

This sounds a lot like my 3yo. He wasn’t saying much pre 2 and started preschool in at 2yrs 3mths. They referred him to speech & language but by the time he saw them his speech came on so well, and he’s doing really well now. He had glue ear from baby and got signed off when he was around the same age as starting pre school. We only got referred because I’ve got a history of family hearing problems. Could you maybe look into this? I’ve also had an ENT app recently because of his adenoids, and even though they aren’t large, they are bigger than they should be which can cause speech problems

(Sorry, I waffled on there 😂)
Sorry for late reply - that’s quite interesting to know, I had to have my adenoids removed when I was 2 so wonder if there’s something going on. Thank you I will consider looking more into this!

So when I dropped her off at nursery this morning, nursery said yesterday that she was spinning round and just brushed by another child, the child didn’t say or do anything and A had a meltdown and was so tearful and over emotional and they said even the other (younger) child was looking at her like what’s happened, why are you so upset kinda thing. This is the type of “outburst” I’m on about, that it doesn’t make sense why it’s over the top and different to other kids etc.. that example there makes me wonder if there’s something wrong 😐 I don’t think the outburst is normal from spinning round and not hurting another child etc and she knows she hasn’t hurt them cos the child she can see is fine ?! I just 🫠

thank you for the end part - this is going to help me a lot!
We have had similar feedback to this from the SEN team at my son’s nursery, worded slightly differently but they have said other children will often be confused/concerned by his reactions and the extent of his meltdowns. But the other kids (and nursery workers obviously!) are very patient and kind with him which is great.
My son is being assessed for autism at the moment, we’re fairly sure he does have it. He has normal toddler tantrums but also has meltdowns that to an onlooker would look like they were over literally nothing, but obviously it is something to him and we do our best to understand his feelings, even though it’s hard for all of us at times.
This isn’t to say your daughter is autistic, it may well just be a phase and she needs a little extra support with handling her emotions at the moment.

Does anyone have any suggestions for fussy eating?
My LO is 23 months now, we did all the “by the book” weaning and she’s never been into food (unless its chocolate based). She would quite happily still be fully on milk if we let her. Since starting nursery, her eating has got waaay better. I think seeing her peers eating her helped her. But at home and especially at her grandparents she refuses most food offered. She will throw it on the floor and laugh.
we’ve had to become really calm in reacting to her refusal of food- not make a big issue of it, tell ourselves she might just not be hungry right now, tell ourselves to look at her eating intake over a week rather than over a day etc.

I’m just wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences?
Is she still in a high chair?
Could the difference also be that at nursery she is on a chair and table rather than a high chair?
My 2yo used a high chair for the first few months and she just wouldn't eat in there. She now sits at the table on a chair (before that we have a small kids table in the living room she uses for lunch when the kids are at school) but she does tend to eat better at that.
Not that she really eats anyway 😂

We're going on holiday in a couple of weeks and LO will have his own room with a single bed. He currently sleeps in his own wee bed, and has never fallen out or gotten out after we've left his room, but I'm worried he might fall out of this bed 🙈 Any ideas what we can put on the floor just in case?

Thanks for your reply! I'm definitely realistic about what is a good amount of time, we just don't seem to get 1 minute of it 😂 just feels a bit draining each day! I've organised the toys so they're not as overwhelming and recently got some new bits in as thought maybe he was outgrowing some toys. I'll keep going!
Mine is a smidge younger but I agree with the above, she’s definitely better doing something like cleaning or mopping with a flash mop and a wet wipe, than playing with toys. That said, since she moved rooms at nursery to one where they do more independent play, she will now play with her dolls and read them books, or sit and do some colouring for 5/10 minutes at a time, it seemed to click one day that she could do these things on her own for a few minutes so hopefully he’ll have a similar realisation!

We're due to visit family soon and have realised my toddler has outgrown his travel cot. Has anyone had much success with inflatable or fold up beds? Needs to be something that can be bundled in the back of the car and easily set up as we move from place to place.

This company is lovely and the quality beautiful. Iv been eyeing this up for a while as the reviews are really good.
They do tend to have lots of sales on quite frequently so you might get a discount. I think you get a discount for being a new member and you collect points as you shop too.
Hope this helps xx

So my daughter turns 2 in 2 weeks she’s always been really good for going to sleep at her bedtime which is anytime between 7/7-30 depending on what kind of nap during the day but this last weeks she’s started proper fighting it and it’s taking over 3hrs to settle her and then finally fall asleep!! Anyone been in the same boat is it just a phase?

We have the leap frog ice cream cart. We got it for Christmas, and the twins absolutely love it its one of our most used toys.
They're two at the end of Aug and will be getting a wooden kitchen as they love the one at soft play and we can't drag them away from it.
The leapfrog one was on offer on amazon prime yesterday for around £35 usually 50. Could still be on today.

Eta still on sale https://amzn.to/3pIMC9k
Oh brilliant I'll maybe grab that actually! Thanks

Mine got a play kitchen for Christmas off a grandparent and he played with it for three days 🙈 then didn’t look at it again. I’ve heard good things about the ice cream cart. Mine doesn’t have 1 but friends do and their kids like them and played with them
Just depends what you think she’ll like best
That's what I'm worried about, she was like that with the playhouse we got her recently 🤣

Mine has chicken pox which are now scabbing. The first one was a massive blister on his back and nothing else for a couple of days. He’s had it really mild, probably about 20 spots in total. I know they say that once you see one they all start coming, but his took about 4 days to all come out
Do they only itch once they r filled with pus or is it itchy from the get go? She’s getting loads of little pimples & it looks like tiny mosquito bites but it’s not itchy at all?

This might be a niche situation but wondering if anyone else really struggled with owning a dog after their toddler hit the 2 year mark? My little one is 2 next month and we have an 18 month old Vizlsa and the two of them together are incredibly hard work. Getting out the door for a walk takes about 20 minutes, toddler loses his mind being in the pram for 2 long so road walks are difficult, especially as still trying to train the dog to walk nicely. Off lead walks are out the window unless he’s in childcare as he has to pick up every rock and stick and moves so slowly, and then the dog gets bored and runs off, becomes very stressful. Throw in another pregnancy, I’m really starting to worry about how I will cope with 2 children and a high energy dog. Not sure if it’s hormones making me feel like this but starting to really struggle! Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and how they managed. We already have help with a dog walker but the cost of that really does add up, and I take on most of it as husband works long long hours.
Yes! We had two dogs when our eldest was born, and over the 10 years until the second was put down in January, we found it very hard to meet everyone’s needs. Dog walks were done by one adult twice a day (or once as the dogs got old) because it was just not easy doing it with toddlers and young kids. The kids even at 5/6 couldn’t walk far enough for a “proper” dog walk - we had labs so they needed a good few miles.
We did our best, and tbh it was mostly taken on by my husband who would walk them every night after the kids were in bed (and in the morning too when I used to work). Not ideal, but the best we could do.
I wouldn’t get another dog while we still have young kids. We just can’t meet everyone’s needs properly.

The buggy is more of a high chair on wheels than anythijng, just somewhere to tether him while he eats. And a way of stopping him opening the door to the world while I'm having a wee in a public bathroom.
Not convinced that's a great reason to keep taking it out.

I have an update on my ongoing preschool saga. I had found a place for her in a Montessori setting part funded part paid. I had some reservations but it was miles better than the current one she was in.

I had signed my son up for a forest school next to it and had a viewing for it on Tuesday when they told me they had a place for my three year old as two places had freed up abruptly due to a house move. She had a settling in session yesterday for two hours and she loved it. She was upset to leave. The lady who helped her settling in said she thinks my daughter is super intelligent and going to thrive there. In two hours they have more positive things to say about her than the last 8 months at the other preschool. She has her first day there tomorrow and she’s so excited to go. The relief I feel is incredible.

She wasn’t even upset about leaving the other preschool, just would miss one friend she’s made. But I gave my number to pass on to her mum and we’ve arranged a play date on Tuesday. They didn’t even give her a card to say goodbye!

I feel like the universe has aligned for me. Straight away she said she’s probably bored and needs some responsibility and opportunities to release her energy. Obviously they will keep an eye on her behaviour and I will keep an open mind for any assessments that she may need but right now I just want her to be a kid and enjoy that.
Omg that’s brilliant. Just the fact she was there for two hours and enjoyed it. What more can you ask for. That’s fantastic 🤩 fingers crossed she settles in well and continues to enjoy it

I’ve got a knot in my stomach about our stay and play later 😖 his dad said just bring him home if he doesn’t like it. But it’s still making me nervous 😩
