I agree with you - my dad used to shout at me and my brother but it didn’t do us ANY harm.

getting told off is a part of life, my daughters dad doesn’t tell her off cos he doesn’t want the tantrum over it but she won’t grow up with any respect for him.. we never really respected my mum cos she was too soft, no boundaries, my dad we have grown up to respect him and know even now as adults we wouldn’t dare put a foot out of line😂
I don’t think a day goes past when I don’t shout. My mum was a shouted also, and I swore I’d never be like her, but my eldest is a very testing child, and here we are. I am my mum 🫠

I actually posted a little about this on the baby thread this morning. Christmas Day is such a massive build up for them, it is always really overwhelming, with so many expectations on them, and their own expectations of what will happen. My 4yo definitely struggled today with some big feelings. The best thing I always find is to break it by getting outside. She was like a different child out in the fresh air.

I’ve actually been shocked by how my 3yo handled today, unlike yesterday, we’ve had no meltdowns, no shouting (from any of us) and just a genuinely lovely time. I’m shook.
We put no pressure on eating, saying thank you, or doing anything in particular so maybe that helped? I don’t know. Will probably be a demon tomorrow now!

I expected it but she actually handled it better than I expected, only a couple of minor meltdowns. But I think Christmas is basically a recipe for meltdowns so don't worry, I'm sure things will return to normal meltdown levels soon!

MiniGlenCoco handled today better than I thought she would. Last year she was really overwhelmed and I was expecting the same only with the addition of the baby.

But she did really well. I have a feeling that being at our house with just us really helped whereas last year we were at my mum's and it was chaos anyway 😂 we'll have to see how we get on next year 🙈

Hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas, thank you for all the advice everyone gives 💜

Merry Christmas

No massive tantrums, but disappointed he couldn’t open everyone’s presents, and got the hump with the baby because he wanted to play with the baby’s presents 🫠

He has had a temperature the last 3 nights as well and was looking really ill today. You can always tell when my kids are ill by their eyes 😔

Us too! Last year was awful, she was so overwhelmed but yesterday was lovely - she didn’t cry once or have a tantrum.. it was presents presents presents!

I live in a terrace but as it’s just me and A we don’t need our dining room to be a dining room so it’s just her play room - the hot weels garage she got was huge and I’m glad I have a room to put it in and close the door 😂😂😂😂😂

Omg I’m so jealous. I’ve always wanted a playroom for this reason. To close the door on the chaos. My mum got him a car garage and also a wooden train set that is taking up the whole living room.

My recycling bin is full as well. Everywhere I look there is piles of toys and other stuff. I actually can’t wait to get the tree down either 😩🤣

My mums friend got my son and my niece and nephew a bag of treats. He’s got three selection boxes, 2 big choc Santa’s, a big of small ones, milkybar festive friends, Malteser reindeer, jelly babies , Freddos selection box and can’t remember what else. One child can’t eat all that 😂😂😂😂

I also clear out before Christmas and have a think about where everything will go. It is also the reason I am very fussy about which toys we allow in to the house.
The good news is that the toddler years are the hardest for enormous toys. After that they get smaller!

Chocolate wise I think between the 4 kids we have had in and around 25 selection boxes, and that doesn’t include all the other stuff like quality street etc.

one child may not be able to eat that but one adult definitely can help 😂
