Hi all, am new to this thread and am at my wits end.
(I apologise if my post isn’t relevant to this thread just let me know) also ⚠ TMI POOP TALK ⚠

I have a 4yo who has been toilet trained almost a year and a half now. Never had any problems with bowl movements etc. 2 weeks ago our household came down with covid, knocked our routine out of whack. My 4yo was constipated during it, and did one painful constipated bowl movement and then developed a phobia. She flat out refused to go poo after that. She went on a 4 day stretch and day 5 managed to pass a brick like poo (which fuelled her fear even more)
Now she’s flat out refusing to poop.
I have tried lactulose (not seen much progress)
Movicol (I’ve tried it in milk, smoothies, juice, heck even icecream and she just spits it out)
Currently we are on califig twice a day.
she is passing stools albeit tiny ones every few days and is holding it in. Whenever she passes wind she soils her pants slightly. It’s a never ending nightmare. She’s just holding her poo in and is refusing to let go.
her diet is normal, she’s getting fibre, fruit & veggies, and is drinking loads of water & apple juice.

ive tried offering her princely things in exchange for her trying to push, been really really supportive, read loads of poop books to her, watched loads of poop songs, videos of animals, even explained the digestive system to her to try and demystify it but nothing is working.
she is uncomfortable all the time and is just holding it in.
please, any hints, tips, advice would be greatly appreciated.
I haven't got personal experience with my own child but my cousins child who I baby sat weekly had this issue. He had constipation a couple of times and then feared going because it hurt him.
It took from when he was around 3 to about 7 to actually sort it and for him to lose the fear. He'd constantly go in his pants because he'd leave it so long.
She had to work with the doctors to make sure his poop was always soft so there wasn't a chance of going backwards again.
Having a chat with the doctors may help. It seems quite a common issue and for now, they may be able to provide some stool softener and maybe give you some advice too on how to help her! 😊

** TW sick ** (it's also really long sorry!)

On Thursday my little girl woke me up at 5:30am to say she felt ill and was sick. Not much, couple of mouthfuls. She went back to bed and was sick again around 9am.

She was very subdued and just wanted to sleep all day but at 5pm she said she was hungry so we gave her some pasta and my mum put cheese it (against my advice!). She naturally threw it up about 4 hours later.

We figured she had a tummy bug as she had kind of been around someone who had been sick earlier in the week.

Friday she was very quiet and subdued and did eat a little bit of toast and some dry biscuits but again at 5pm she was sick (again only a mouthful or two).

Yesterday she was absolutely fine, a little bit tired and at times subdued, but for the most part she was fine. We had a busy day so by 4pm she was flagging and didn't want any tea.

She didn't sleep well but we figured she was just really hungry after not really eating for a couple of days and she woke up today and wanted Weetabix and then some grapes. She didn't eat all the Weetabix and grapes, probably about half.

She has just thrown up again, but seems absolutely fine in herself!!

My mum reckons she could have developed an allergy to milk / dairy but I'm not sure. I'm also not sure that it's a tummy bug anymore??

Could be stomach flu rather than a tummy bug. That lasts a bit longer and doesn’t seem to be as intense. I’d personally not start worrying about allergies until after a week. She probably could do with some more rest and try to keep up with food, yoghurt, fruit, toast, whatever she can have but little bits and often. Hope she’s feeling better soon it can be so worrying!

To develop an allergy that causes you to throw up so suddenly would be rare, surely? There would normally be signs before that, and it’s more common that young kids outgrow CMPA than grow in to it - but of course anything is possible.

I have found tummy bugs can last a good few days. Last one we had my youngest was being sick from Wednesday to Sunday, even though I also got it and was only sick Thursday and Friday.
They say to give cat for unsettled tummies - bananas, rice, apple, toast.

I am being tested today 😫
Been on my own with my little one since Thursday as daddy is away… it’s been ok so far, keeping busy. Went to the garden centre today and every plant I put in the trolley she’s pulling the heads off 🤦‍♀️ I then buy some plants with the thought that I can plant them in the garden while she runs around, how naive of me, she wants to be involved in everything I’m doing of course 😂 which I don’t mind but she then starts ripping all the heads off the new plants and when I turn my back for two minutes she’s yeeted them across the garden 😩
I know it’s not her fault I just feel like I can’t have anything nice and I also can’t do any jobs until she’s in bed lol

it must be hard being used to two of you then suddenly you are just on your own! How old is she? I can generally (as a single mum too) get lots of stuff done as my 2.5 year old will just sit on my bed with her iPad if I’m upstairs doing stuff, she won’t really move unless I’m finished, or I get her to help me do the washing, make the bed etc. I’ve got to say at first I felt so overwhelmed with it all but now she’s older it’s easier. But yours is short term! Just do the jobs you can whilst she’s in bed and just call it a learning curve 😂💘

I’m guilty of also giving my 2.5 year old the iPad when I just need to get jobs done quick 😂 screen time doesn’t matter to me cos I know he has plenty of time without it. There are jobs he absolutely loves though. Like putting the washing on the clothes airer but sometimes he thinks it’s a game and pegs it with loads of socks and hides them round the house 😅😩

I’ve said it on other threads but we are so alike😂🥲 ANYWAY. Yeah she will sit there watching tv, I’d say she doesn’t even get that much screen time in a full week. It’s very minimal. 2 days a week after nursery for about an hour, then Wednesdays usually the morning, before bed and then Thursdays we are out all day doing something, Fridays she’s at my dads so she gets about 1-2 hours there, weekend again is minimal. I hate being glued to the tv myself and kids tv annoys me😂

Aww thank you, that is very kind, she has had an early night so I can take a deep breath, bless her. She drives me to the edge and then lays on me, drinks her nightly milk and when she’s finished says ‘more’ and I just melt 🥰 she’s only 16 months so not exactly a toddler but not a baby anymore and a bundle of energy!

You’re so right though, I actually bought an iPad recently 💃🏻 I just need to set it up etc.
And I am one of those people who pre being a mum thought I would never give my child one, ooooh I was such a good parent before I had kids 😇 💗

I said the same. A only got her iPad for when we go on long car journeys etc, but when I’m doing stuff and I need her to sit still she uses it cos she knows how to change it from blippi to whatever junk she watches whereas the tv remote she can’t fully use yet and it’s harder for her…. I only said there’s NO way my child is getting a tablet 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂well….. but I think it’s a balance between screen time and being outside etc, she prefers to be outside so I’m not concerned over her tv useage! Even in winter it’s not like she’s glued to it

Do we have the same child?! He’s 3 in September, and has just discovered youtube kids. He loves it. He switches between blippi and anything else he can find. He was watching hamsters in a run the other day 🫠
Anyway, my kids have far too much screen time. I wfh and I need to get things done. He’s at preschool 3 mornings a week, so gets a break then. We’ve recently moved and our garden is huge, and he loves being outside, so is slightly becoming less obsessed with it
I wish I didn’t have to work, so I could give him my full attention 😔 it’s so hard some days!

What snacks does everyone provide for their little ones. I’m running out of ideas and think he’s a little bored of the choices 😂

I try and do a 3 part snack taking something from the different food groups

So eg apple, cheese and crackers
Peanut butter on rice cake, banana
Veg sticks, hummus, yoghurt
Toast w/ peanut butter, grapes

They always have a fruit or veg in there, and I try and mix up what they are having throughout the week.

Hi all, am new to this thread and am at my wits end.
(I apologise if my post isn’t relevant to this thread just let me know) also ⚠ TMI POOP TALK ⚠

Total lurker here but seeing your post I couldn't not reply as I am hopefully coming out the other side (touch wood, fingers crossed etc!) with my 3 year old daughter and know how it can take over your life. I've found movicol the game changer for us, lactulose didn't do anything. Not sure how much movicol you are having to give a day but the only thing I've found that she will drink a whole sachet at once is when added to a fruit shoot, otherwise we spread it out over the day adding small amount to milk whether as a drink or in cereal, adding to soup, I'll even add it onto toast and let it soak in then cover with butter. There is a charity called ERIC that deal with bowel and bladder issues in children and have lots of really good information on their website. They have a helpline but really busy at the moment and took me about 4 weeks to hear back from them but worth getting in touch. The other thing they mentioned to me was a stimulant to encourage them to go, we haven't had to do that as the movicol seems to have worked by itself. The other thing I can recommend is the movicol mummies Facebook page ,loads of other people on there going through the same thing and many have years of experience with movicol and just reading the posts can give you good ideas of how to hide it to get them to take it and just a bit of support. Hope you manage to find something that works.
