I’m so sorry she’s very unwell. I’m glad you went back and didn’t keep her at home with getting fobbed off. A temp etc for so long doesn’t just scream “flu or a small viral infection”.

Sending you all and your daughter hugs xxx💖 keep us updated xx
How’s things with your daughters dad this week?

Has anyone got some advice about my daughter apparently being scared of the dark?

She’s 3 in Jan.

For context: she’s always slept in the dark, even for nap times, she’s never had lights on for going to sleep, no nightlights. In fact the whole landing area near her room is pitch black. No light can get into her room from outside either even when it’s summer.

Now, for the last 2-3 weeks she’s been going through a “phase” of saying she’s scared of the dark and then the next night saying she likes the dark and she wants to sleep in the dark.

I’ve noticed when she’s overtired she’s scared of the dark so I will leave the landing light on until she’s firmly asleep then turn it off. She doesn’t wake up during the night and she wakes up in the morning no issues (in the darkness)..

I just tell her I sleep in the dark and so does her bears, her grandad, daddy all sleep in the dark, I don’t say “there’s nothing to be scared of” cos I don’t want to put things into her head that the dark is frightening and she will start imagining things.

i don’t think she’s scared of the dark as such but she sometimes tells me she is before bedtime.

i just don’t know what advice I’m looking for cos I obviously leave a light on when she tells me she’s scared but has anyone else been through this? I remember being scared of the dark as a kid and I felt better when I could see the landing light through my bedroom, almost like a comfort thing?

she’s nearly 3 so she might be imagining things now and I don’t disregard how she feels but one day she’s fine and the other shes sobbing at bedtime cos of the dark!

Sorry I’m now stressing about nursery tomorrow and Tuesday and her potty training. She won’t tell me she needs a wee, she will just go and do it and then tell me but at nursery she obviously can’t be half bottom naked and a potty next to her. Will they just keep taking her every half an hour or so? I’m really anxious over it and I’m not sending any nappies cos that’s going backwards.. they’re an amazing nursery and they’ve done this 1000000s of times 😂 but I’m still stressing!
At my nursery I have heard them ask a few kids if they need a wee and they do keep an eye on the newly potty trained. Can you explain to her if she needs a wee she needs to tell them?? I’m sure they’d support you whatever you decide. Just maybe get there 5 mins early and explain your worries?

** TW sick ** (it's also really long sorry!)

On Thursday my little girl woke me up at 5:30am to say she felt ill and was sick. Not much, couple of mouthfuls. She went back to bed and was sick again around 9am.

She was very subdued and just wanted to sleep all day but at 5pm she said she was hungry so we gave her some pasta and my mum put cheese it (against my advice!). She naturally threw it up about 4 hours later.

We figured she had a tummy bug as she had kind of been around someone who had been sick earlier in the week.

Friday she was very quiet and subdued and did eat a little bit of toast and some dry biscuits but again at 5pm she was sick (again only a mouthful or two).

Yesterday she was absolutely fine, a little bit tired and at times subdued, but for the most part she was fine. We had a busy day so by 4pm she was flagging and didn't want any tea.

She didn't sleep well but we figured she was just really hungry after not really eating for a couple of days and she woke up today and wanted Weetabix and then some grapes. She didn't eat all the Weetabix and grapes, probably about half.

She has just thrown up again, but seems absolutely fine in herself!!

My mum reckons she could have developed an allergy to milk / dairy but I'm not sure. I'm also not sure that it's a tummy bug anymore??

I also swear by the Gro Clock. My little boy was the worst sleeper and would wake numerous times a night and want to come into our bed. We now set the clock and explained he could only come in when it turned yellow. The first couple of nights we did say he would get a prize if he managed it and it completely worked. He’s nearly 4 now and only since the Gro Clock has he now started sleeping through in his own bed and staying there until the time we have set for his wake up.
My groclock never turns yellow, unless you press it?! It’s always been like this, so has never worked for us. 3yo is scared of it as well 😭

You tell them they can't get out of bed until the clock turns yellow.
And you set it with them before putting them in bed. There's also a story to read with it too if you want to. We read it the first few nights

The first few days, she got up and I just took her back to bed and reminded her she can't get up until its yellow.
And then she just started falling asleep whilst laying in bed chatting to herself.

She's never been an early riser. We used it just to keep her in bed. She often sleeps past when it turns yellow anyway
I know you recommend the groclock a lot, but what age do you think it stops working? T Bean keeps getting in to our bed during The night, I think because we moved/went on holiday days later and then I went away so his sleep is all up in the air. I just want him to stay in his bed! He is 3 next month x

Wasn’t sure whether to post this in the new baby thread or here as my daughter has just turned one (😭) but has anyone ever had it where their LO’s have refused to wear shoes!? She started taking a few steps just before 11 months and has been properly walking for a good few weeks now so took her to get her feet measured and she cried and had an absolute meltdown when trying to put shoes on. We managed to get her size so I bought some shoes and tried them at home, she still cried, like properly sobbing. She would stop and then look at her feet and just cry again 😢 I’ve tried softer shoes as I’m not sure if they were hurting her but she just won’t wear them. I think it’s more of a sensory thing, I know it must feel weird for her. Any advice appreciated!
Mine hated his shoes at first. He cried his eyes out. I actually have a pic of him and he’s sobbing , But it didn’t last long, he was fine a
Half a hour later . Will she walk at all in them? Can you distract her when she has them on and get her walking and looking at things ?

So. We’ve been at my dads all afternoon and we kept asking her if she needed a wee and she said no, low and behold she did a wee, she did another one later on and just sat there in wet pants on her quad bike (until I noticed)🙃 and she didn’t even tell me she had done a wee. She farted twice then I said do you need a poo and she said no, then she did a poo.

Is this normal?????? I’m stressed out and it’s only been a day. I’ve put a nappy on her cos we aren’t going home for 15 mins and I don’t want her weeing on their sofa 🙃

So I’ve decided I’m not potty training her for a few months now. I don’t think she’s ready. I’m gunna do it when we get back off hol in October, today has been way more stressful than I feel it should have been and she’s only 2.7 years old.

My 3yo had his last week, and sat still. If you know he’s going to move, can you put your hand on his head, like you would when they are having their ears and throat checked?
I will try...it may be that he's better with it now he's older, but last winter it was really tricky!

We watched the nhs flu hero’s video on YouTube and honestly my daughter was just so excited to be a flue hero that she’d have let them do anything to her!
Thank you, I'll give this a try!

Hi everyone, just looking for advice from anyone who has been through similar.

My little boy is 2.5 and has been fully potty trained for 2 months now - he’s done amazing and I’m so proud of him, but there’s one issue - he will only go on the potty and not the toilet, he’s really scared of it.
At nursery today he had an accident as well as he couldn’t get to the potty on time, which I expected as this was his first day back since being potty trained but I’m nervous it’s going to make him regress.

Any advice on how to make him not scared of toilets will be much appreciated, haha!
My l/g is there same but she is 3. She point blank refuses to go on the toilet. They have mini toilets at school so thought she would be fine. She was not fine and on her first day wet her pants 5 time!!! Like shes probably had 10 accidents since she started potty training and 5 of these were on that day. The next day u took her potty and she was fine. Have you tried a toddler set insert? She uses one at home and nursery also have one.

We only manged one nostril. She woke up screaming. I just had to do the test lucky negative. We tried with the tv but she knew what was coming We tried tickle and changing nappy game we even did it to ourselves to show her all negative.
She fine in herself and all but still wanted to make sure.
How long has it been since she was around someone?
It can take 4-7 days to show positive 😊
Fingers crossed you stay negative!

Yeah I could ring the office but they’re never open!!!! They are impossible to get hold of. It’s always been easier to contact her directly. They’ve always rang me off their own number
Mine is the same. Rang weeks ago for a weight app, nothing! Got a letter through for his 9-12 month development, and to be honest, I can’t be bothered with it. My 3yo one was shite. As was his 27 month one

My daughter is so fussy with food it drives me mental. She’s getting worse - I’m sure it’s a control thing though as she’s at that age. I’ve always been quite lenient like I’ll offer her foods on her plate and won’t make a deal of it if she won’t eat it but she tries it and goes ewww. But tonight at tea time I snapped and went mad - cost of everything is going to and I’m SICK of her saying she wants it and she doesn’t. She had 3 spoonfuls of tea and said no… then she wanted cereal before bed like usual and she had one mouthful and said no more. I went mad and sent her up to bed.

I am SICK of it!!! Her dad was here so when I went the gym he made her some soup and told me she can’t go to bed hungry😠 I said she needs teaching a lesson that she can’t keep asking for food and wasting it.

She doesn’t snack throughout the day, she has 3 meals and fruit and that’s it!
Same in my house. He ‘doesn’t like dinner’. Everyday when I ask what everyone wants for dinner. Before I’ve even decided. I done him omelette and beans which he ate a bit of, then it was ‘I don’t like it’ followed by ‘weetabix’ half hour later. I didn’t give in, but normally I do, because when he comes into us in the mornings, his belly is rumbling 🙄
It’s so frustrating. The only ‘safe’ food I can offer is breakfast, but I want him to be eating actual dinner 😭

Does anyone have any tips for getting my three year old to stay still for his flu vaccine nasal spray?! I honestly find injections easier as it's in and out quickly! He hates anything up his nose.
My 3yo had his last week, and sat still. If you know he’s going to move, can you put your hand on his head, like you would when they are having their ears and throat checked?

So, tonight was a great night to start the glo clock 🫠 toddler was furious I wouldn’t let him in our bed. Kicking and screaming. Never been like this before. Not sure what was wrong with him 😭

@WhatABore - I’m sure the clock turned off. I assume this isn’t normal during the night time??
It shouldn't turn off, no.
It stays on, blue all night as a night light 😊
