it's similar in German, in that they have words or phrases that we don't have an English translation for.

Schadenfreude - this is a word used to describe the joy felt at other people's pain.

Kummerspeck - a word which translates into English as "grief bacon" and refers weight gained as the result of eating excessively when you feel sad.

Ohrwurm - translates as "ear worm" and used to describe the situation when you get a song stuck on repeat in your head that you can't stop singing over and over again!
my bf is german but we speak english with one another and he uses ''ear worm'' in english aaaalll the time 😂

Has it? I'm about a decade behind but I've just found so many songs I thought were gone forever:

The Spinners (as in the Liverpool Spinners) not all of them but a few.

The Kelly Family!

Funky Green Dogs!

I'm well away. I'll be here all night 😂.

Are you laughing at my ineptitude @Miss.Chanandler.Bong or my hideous eclectic song mix? 😁
The Kelly Family! I was starting to think I was the only person who remembered falling in love with an alien...

Jesus that must have been beyond awful. Can you drop out if the case is like that and you cannot cope? I know people who have been barristers in similar cases showing images etc to the jury and I don't know how the jury could deal with it. I know I couldn't
I
We were told we could only get out of it if we had a reasonable excuse and these seemed to be limited to if you knew any of the people involved e.g. witnesses etc. or perhaps places where the incidents took place. I don't think you could just say you didn't like the subject matter of the particular trial. Not sure what they would have done if you just had a panic attack or something during the trial lol. Presumably that would be a medical reason to be allowed to duck out at the point.

They weren't nice cases of course but there were no images or anything like that so it could have been worse I think. Obviously hearing descriptions of the things that went on etc. wasn't pleasant.

What I’ve always wanted to know is: if on jury service a jury found a person guilty or not guilty, but the judge, when watching evidence during the trial, has clearly spotted something that 100% proves that the jury has made the wrong decision and the accused is innocent/guilty, are they allowed to intervene, or be forced to send an innocent person to jail or let a guilty one off free?

If anyone knows, it will be my “today I learned” :)
They give a directed verdict don’t they? Basically stop the trial and tell the jury what to do.

That till receipts are highly toxic as they contain BPA, even handing them is a risk and recycling them is not possible 😮 Why is every damn thing we touch, toxic?
This was in the article about some brands’ athletic clothing lines having dangerous chemicals in them, right?
