Does anyone else suffer with sweating of the hands quite frequently? I’m pretty insecure about it and was wondering if there are any treatments or anything I can buy to help stop the excess?
Sorry to hear this. Look out for an antiperspirant called DRICLOR. It is used in cases of excessive sweating, hyperhidrosis. You can get it over the counter. But if that doesn't help contact you GP who can prescribe a stronger version.
Good luck.

Thanks. I have driclor, the roll on applicator one. It doesn’t really do anything for my hands though as they still end up quite sweaty no matter how much I put on. I don’t tend to sweat anywhere else, it’s just my hands that is over excessive which could be down to my anxiety etc. But I didn’t know there was a stronger version of it, so I’ll contact my doctor and ask about that. Thank you!☺

Hypothyroid taking levothyroxine - has anyone noticed hair thinning at all?
No, I am the opposite. My hair was thinning, dry papery skin on legs. Mine was diagnosed on a wellwoman blood test. Since taking 150 of Levothyroxine for Hypothyroidism my skin is back to normal and my hair is thickening up.
Was your hair thinning to begin with?

No, my hairs always been really thick and quite long so I'm confused as to why it's suddenly started. Noticed it particularly around my fringe and sides of my hair.

I had a baby 17 months ago so could be related to that? (was diagnosed with underactive thyroid half way through my pregnancy)

Yep it’s horrible because I used to have such thick hair aswell before I was diagnosed and started taking Levothyroxine. If anyone has any recommendations for how to stop the thinning or any advice to get back some thickness.. I’d really appreciate it!

First time poster-

does anyone suffer with any heart complications or symptoms as a result of their thyroid?
Hey, yes me!
Have been referred to cardiology for a holter monitor to be fitted as I have a skipping heartbeat. Had half of my thyroid removed in 2018, skipping heart started early in 2019, and has been getting worse ever since.
I find it gets a bit better when I have an increase in levothyroxine, but comes back again when my levels aren’t right.
At it’s worst it can happen all day long for days on end, it scares me sometimes! 🫣

I'm exactly the same! It's awful :( Noticing it more on my fringe area, especially when I have it up in a bun.

It's scary really as I keep worrying I'll end up bald!

my mum and i are both hypo (mine is also hashimoto's) and she's noticing more hair loss too! she's on oestrogen patches after a full hysterectomy so isn't ruling that out as the cause either. just ordered her some biotin and coconut supplements on amazon, the vitabright brand with 365 capsules. the reviews look good so hopefully they make a difference!

Have any of you guys had myxedema?
I’m hypothyroid been about two years or so now, the pst few weeks my legs and feet have been swelling at first I thought ah it’s the heatwave it’ll pass but it’s got progressively worse. It’s not pitting. I know I need to see the doc shaepish fighting at 8am for an appointment isn’t an art I’ve conquered yet.

I've noticed slight swelling in my ankles but nothing really bad! Getting through to the doctors is ridiculous isn't it. The other day I was number 33 in the queue at 8am! Mental.

Has anyone struggled to lose weight/put weight on thyroid related?

A little bit but my hair was always been quite dry and thinner prior to being diagnosed. If its quite dramatic and noticeable I'd speak with your doctor about checking your medication dose is right.

Weight was the primary symptom for me. I gained quite a lot despite no changes to lifestyle. It took a few years but I did manage to get it under control and took a good lot of the weight gain off. Its my opinion that even now medicated my body isn't the same as it was before i.e. its more difficult for me to take weight off now.

I'm finding this the same with me, seems easier to put on but a nightmare to lose. Literally seems impossible

Hi, if you don’t mind me asking, How did you manage to get your weight back under control?
I’ve cut out junk food, only eat lean meat, fruits and vegetables and I’ve lost 5lb in two months. It’s soul destroying 😣
Even with medication my body isn’t the same as it was before, I totally agree with you. My energy levels some days are non existent, other days absolutely full of energy.
I’ve got the legs of a 70 year old though, aching every night like I’ve run a marathon

Yes, I find it difficult to lose weight and I am on thyroxine! I took part in a survey a couple of years ago, and almost all of us who contributed all agreed that it is a lot harder to lose weight if you are hypothyroid and on thyroxine.

The specialists disagreed and said that with the correct diet then there shouldnt be any difference!

So is it my age, or my ability to follow diets correctly......that makes it harder for me to lose weight? I did wonder if the fact that the thyroid regulates hormones, makes it harder to get the system working fast enough to digest food properly? But this is complicated by the fact that I am coeliac as well, and most coeliac foods are extremely sugar laden to make them palatable! I only lose weight, if I eat way less than the recommended daily allowances!

And I am at an age where my hair is thinning, but I do also remember when I was pregnant, that a side effect of pregnancy, alongside things like teeth issues, was hair loss. So again could be either causing it?

So I gained weight due to thyroid and then developed mental health issues not long after, due to the thyroid and other life stuff going on so I lost a lot of motivation initially.

Then once I got that more under control I started calorie counting, upped my exercise routine (I walk a lot and gym a few times a week) and that was it really and it worked for me. Very slowly compared to how I've lost weight in the past but I got down from around a UK size 18/20 to a 10/12. Its such a miserable feeling essentially knowing your body is a constant fight with you.

i think magnesium can help with muscle aches! but according to this article you need to them at least four hours apart from your thyroid meds. maybe take this with a pinch of salt though bc i'm on amitriptyline and it's never been flagged as a concern https://www.singlecare.com/blog/thyroid-medication-interactions/

also, does anyone have experience with low thyroid symptoms, okay thyroid blood work but other abnormal results? they have only tested my thyroid levels for the past few months but did a fbc this time. i have high lymphocytes, high phosphorus and low folate. they did a mono test in the lab and that was neg, and i'm getting more bloods done next week but i think this combo has been causing my symptoms (assuming low folate means high homocysteine). now down a MTHFR mutation rabbit hole ...

Did you guys know that multivitamins can interact with thyroxine? My mind is blown right now… given my latest symptoms I decided to research if any of my current meds interacted and a couple do… but I never knew about the vitamin!!

As for weight, I’ve gained 5st since being diagnosed. Before I was, I initially gained two stone and it wasn’t coming off.. I felt so drained, it was a battle to keep my eyes open.. then my mental health deteriorated and I gained a further 3st from all the other meds they’ve put me on (worst culprit being quetiapine). My weight is so bad now that ive been referred to weight management clinic with the bariatric team in November. Im really hoping they can help me, surgery if suitable.. because I feel so horrible and no matter what im trying rn it’s not budging, I’ve never been so big I just feel extremely unhealthy in so many ways.

I’ve read those that are hypothyroid should avoid Saxenda or have very robust monitoring while on it.

Thanks for replying, and well done on such an impressive weight loss!
I think lack of motivation with me has a little bit to do with depression to be honest. But I’m not sure if low mood could be to do with my thyroid level.
Did you find the losing weight slowly very unmotivating? Like you, I’ve lost weight in the past and it’s just dropped off, so to see it all coming off so slowly almost makes me think why do I bother.
How long did it take you in total to lose the weight?
I need to get moving, walking more and going to the gym, and get my head into it I think.

I have tried magnesium before, and they do help. I’ve been using a magnesium spray but it makes your skin tingle and itch like crazy when it’s applied.
The heat makes the aching worse and also makes my feet swell slightly too.
I always take anything hours apart from my levothyroxine, even my contraceptive pill.
The joys of being hypothyroid 😵💫
