Well after whinging everyone’s ears off down in the not so sunny East of England about how blooming chilly it is, it seems we are now about to be roasted into the fiery pits of hell this weekend. Today:Hoodie. Saturday:fourth degree burns. Standard!
So you'll be a very pink lobster then!Well after whinging everyone’s ears off down in the not so sunny East of England about how blooming chilly it is, it seems we are now about to be roasted into the fiery pits of hell this weekend. Today:Hoodie. Saturday:fourth degree burns. Standard!
Ah I'm north north west and we had a thunderstorm around 9pm. Feels so much fresher out there.North West, we got "summer rain" really humid before hand. Very disappointed we didn't get the thunderstorm promised, I like the atmosphere of it and most of all the smell. Well least I got my washing dried beforehand
I'm clearly wrong part of the North WestAh I'm north north west and we had a thunderstorm around 9pm. Feels so much fresher out there.
I think the storms were Blackpool, Preston, Bolton, Wigan way and Merseyside.I'm clearly wrong part of the North West
I don’t live in a new build and we’re already 24-25c indoors, I’m dreading the rest of the summer.Well this is particularly cheery reading - 45% chance of having a hotter UK summer but too earlier to tell if last year's temperatures will be breached: https://amp-theguardian-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/amp.theguardian.com/environment/2023/jun/10/risk-record-heatwave-uk-twice-normal-forecasters-40c-meteorologists?amp_js_v=a6&_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQGsAEggAID#aoh=16864604789130&csi=0&referrer=https://www.google.com&_tf=From %1$s&share=https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/jun/10/risk-record-heatwave-uk-twice-normal-forecasters-40c-meteorologists
The article makes an excellent point that the UK is literary not built to deal with these temperatures. Our buildings are built to retain heat during winter, not keep them cool during summer. I live in a new build and already our bedrooms are hitting 20-23C at night. This is with keeping blinds, curtains and windows closed. This year we have thermal curtains in our bedroom to help cut down the heat so hoping that may make a difference.

We didn’t get any either, but I was relieved because they scare me!
That's interesting cos I think our new build is cool, although that could be because we are in a dormer bungalow allllllll the heat is upstairs (luckily we sleep downstairs). I literally feel relieved stepping into the house.Well this is particularly cheery reading - 45% chance of having a hotter UK summer but too earlier to tell if last year's temperatures will be breached: https://amp-theguardian-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/amp.theguardian.com/environment/2023/jun/10/risk-record-heatwave-uk-twice-normal-forecasters-40c-meteorologists?amp_js_v=a6&_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQGsAEggAID#aoh=16864604789130&csi=0&referrer=https://www.google.com&_tf=From %1$s&share=https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/jun/10/risk-record-heatwave-uk-twice-normal-forecasters-40c-meteorologists

This is the second new build I've lived in and both seemed quite toasty at night. I loved living in a tenement years ago as the stone closes were always lovely and cool.I'm more north west than those

23.5c in our living room right now though, so maybe not
Need to get off my arse and walk the dog, the thunderstorm doesn't seem to have helped the humidity.
And nobody's doing anything! I'm not even talking about acting against climate change but just responding to the changing weather. Air con needs to be more widely available. I'm no engineer but there must be a way of adapting houses to keep warm in the winter and cool in the summer. We need to change our work pattern in the summer like in hotter countries so that people don't have to work in unbearable conditions.Well this is particularly cheery reading - 45% chance of having a hotter UK summer but too earlier to tell if last year's temperatures will be breached: https://amp-theguardian-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/amp.theguardian.com/environment/2023/jun/10/risk-record-heatwave-uk-twice-normal-forecasters-40c-meteorologists?amp_js_v=a6&_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQGsAEggAID#aoh=16864604789130&csi=0&referrer=https://www.google.com&_tf=From %1$s&share=https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/jun/10/risk-record-heatwave-uk-twice-normal-forecasters-40c-meteorologists

Sadly I think it's going to take deaths for society to take action. And nobody's doing anything! I'm not even talking about acting against climate change but just responding to the changing weather. But every year people just say oh it only happens once in a blue moon, or oh the UK only ever gets a couple of weeks of 'good' weather. Can't they see its happening every year now and we need to adapt!?
