What is everyone’s take on this?
Did BOGV offer this trip to:
a) Tim only?
b) Tim & Jin?
c) The Bojo fam of 4?
I’m thinking it was only for Dim. They probably sent an itinerary and didn’t want more people than necessary. If they did invite her, I’m guessing she wouldn’t have wanted to do some of the activities. Maybe she asked if she could stay at the resort while he went white water rafting, and they said no, so she figured dealing with the kids was better than getting her hair wet.
I could also see this trip as him needing time away from everything. She’s had a few chances to get away from the family, and I really think she’s the one pushing to film. He seems like he’s just trying to relax and decompress, and then she comes in with a list of things she wants to do that day. That might be why so many weekends end up as just homevlogs.
They post a vlog that doesn’t appeal to most & it gets them 30k views. My assumption is that’s probably the number close to what their actual followers are that will watch each & every morsel the BoJos toss out there. 30k is what they can count on now. I wish YT would sanitize their subscribers list to reality stage. Get rid of those who once subscribed but never clicks on anymore !
I agree about YouTube purging inactive accounts, or even automatically unsubscribing users if they haven’t watched a channel’s content in a while. Personally, once a quarter, I go through the channels I’m subscribed to and remove the ones I haven’t been watching.
Back when X was still Twitter, they did a major purge of fake accounts. Some “celebrities” lost about a third of their followers, and many claimed those were just troll accounts. It hasn’t been mentioned here in a while, but we’ve talked before about the Trackers potentially buying fake followers or views. I’d assume they’re not using Patreon money for that, though.
Losing subscribers like that would definitely affect how creators approach their content. That’s one reason I don’t like sites like Social Blade or Viewstats. They tend to focus on positive growth and project how long it will take for a creator to hit milestones like one million subscribers. That kind of focus can be misleading.
Creators shouldn’t treat a video topic that underperforms as something they should never cover again. The Trackers have done this with other local theme parks. Disney is clearly their main focus, and Universal only gets occasional coverage, but when was the last time they visited Legoland or SeaWorld? Places like Kennedy Space Center (NASA) might not generate a lot of views in the first 48 hours, but those videos can continue to gain views over time. They’re often discovered by people planning a trip who want a preview of what to expect.
I don’t have a direct example involving Dim, but Adam the Woo once made a video about the filming locations from National Lampoon’s Vacation. When it was released in 2017, it didn’t get many views, which frustrated him, given the time and travel he put into it. Now it has over a million views. He never really revisited the topic, but it continued to generate income over time.
We see monthly view counts posted here, and a significant portion comes from older videos. Because of that, the Trackers probably should look at what did good in the past and make a more thoughtful long-term strategy rather than just trying to see what sticks.
