@Gym&Tonic im really enjoying exercising out side, I can’t explain the feeling I get but I know I’m a much happier relaxed person 👍🏻 I enjoy running on my own listening to good music, I’m more aware of my local area and pleasantly surprised at what’s in it, I would never have know of if I hadn’t started running, I can tell you where streets are to 😂 also the amount of people I see on a regular basis that have started to wave or give you a smile, it’s so lovely 😊

I almost almost finished couch 25k in the first lockdown, was on week 9 and my ankle blew up, was sooooo disappointed ! Never ever ran my whole life so it was quite an achievement to complete each week !
Went out yesterday and started on week 6 so hoping to complete a 5k by the end of the year !! Out again tomo !!

Today I did my longest run period in almost a year 15 solid minutes of running followed by a 3 minute walk and then a 5 minute run. Doesn’t seem much but I was struggling so much at the beginning of this couch to 10K experience and now I look forward to it and enjoy the longer chunks than the shorter bits. I will say however my pacing is a hot bloody mess and I need to figure out a more stable pace as I start to go further - so does anyone have tips?

Just back on week 3.
Remember now why I find it hard to do
week 3.

You go from running from 1.30 minute to 3 minute run, such a big jump up.

I also recommend mixing up the surfaces that you run on if you can... I don't ever get problems when trail running other than really tired legs the next day! It transitions well onto the road as well

V slow 2.5k this morning (~18 minutes ish), it rained all night and I very much did not want to go running 🤦‍♀️ seemed a lot harder than the last one and it was a lot of telling myself "just go another minute... Just until that gate... Now until that bench" but at least it's done I guess?

I ended up running 25km last week :D I am annoyed with myself for not starting back up sooner. It was the weather which was putting me off mainly, I forgot it's fine once you get going. Been loving the fresh air and it's done wonders for my skin too it looks so much brighter!

I downloaded Strava again which I haven't used in years (was met with a post of my ex boyfriend's recent bike ride, lovely 😂) and signed up to the December 100km challenge 😬 hope I can do it.

Gyms back open from Wednesday - not sure what to do about this. I find running on the treadmill mind numbing but it is good for working on speed. My membership has expired too so I'll have to drop £250 on it as well, don't really need that just before Christmas! Tempted to just stick to running outdoors 🤷‍♀️

Having avoided running all week, I'm just back from a 5K 😅

Partially to escape how sad Christmas makes me feel, partially for the mental benefits, but mostly to prove to myself that I could.

Hope ye are all doing well and if a poster here hadn't mentioned going on Christmas day last week - it never would have even occurred to me. Cheers for being a nice wee running community :)

I completed my first run of 2021 this morning 🙌🏼
2.5 miles with a lot of walking as I was wheezing (I’m probably considered a heavy smoker) and blisters as I stupidly tied my trainers too tight 😆 but I really enjoyed it so I have to make sure I get out a few times a week and build it up, aiming to run the distance without stopping. It should help me cut down on the tobacco too

Does anybody have any advice / brand / store recommendations for buying new running shoes? My current shoes are really needing replaced

I’m in the UK and prefer to shop in person, but not against online shopping

I know it’s best to go to a specialist running store such as Run4It and speak to a staff member who knows their stuff, but at the moment they are appointment only and I don’t really have the confidence to do that, and would prefer to shop solo.
I’ve booked to go to a specialist store on Saturday to have gait analysis - I’ve been before and it was totally fine and they really are knowledgable and also not judgy (at least in mine) and let me be a weirdo when it came to colours of the shoe.

Just over 15k in 1:30 today!!!!! 😭 to think a few months ago I couldn’t run more than 3 minutes without feeling like I needed to stop. I’m very tempted to work towards a half marathon now, who would’ve thought it!
Go for it. If you’re at 15k then you can get to a half marathon in a few weeks, absolutely!

I used to run 3 miles a day near enough every day. As I've got older and holding a few too many extra lbs, my body just cannot get back into it. I get horrific shin splits which are that painful I can barely walk. I tried Couch 2 5K but nothing would shift it. Not a gait analysis, not ice, not stretching, literally nothing.

Well I’m dead happy with that time for a 10K, my second fastest 🙌🏼 You can sort of see on my spilts I was struggling to maintain a slower pace at first then I really focused on cadence for the second half and honestly it made it such a breeze. I’ve been following trackclubbabe and she does some great posts about cadence and getting faster, this is the first time I’ve really tried to implement it rather than knackering myself out with long strides. I have never had a 10K where the last km was the quickest. I do need to work on maintaining a pace still but this is definitely progress.

What does everyone like to eat before a long run or on a race day? I tend to run on an empty stomach if it’s just a quick morning run but today I had porridge with banana and a bit of maple syrup about 90 mins before I ran.

Anyone running Christmas morning?

I really fancy it... but wondering if it would be daft. I usually run before the kids rise anyway, but equally they might get up early as they are excited and I don't want to delay their excitement as mummy has gone for a run 🤔

Hiii! I’m loving this thread and not totally unrelated, I signed up for my first marathon last night for the end of May 2021😳 I’ve been running probably for 5ish years but only really consistently in the last couple. I did a half marathon a couple of weeks a go in 2hr20mins so certainly not speedy. Any helpful links etc on where to start I would be very grateful xx

I’ll elaborate, I have had fitbits for years, most recently the charge 4. I loved it, but as I got more into running, I found the pacing to be hard to use while running and the distance to be off… I ran a 10k race, and my Fitbit reckoned I had run 11.2k, I had not!

so I but the bullet and bought a garmin. If you’re into running and want data/stats and accuracy I would 100% recommend a garmin over a Fitbit.
I’m a member of a local running club, last night on a run with 11 other people, 5 of us had garmin and the distance we ran was all within 0.03miles of each other. The Fitbit users were up to 250m different to the garmin distances….

Anyone excited for the return of parkrun in June?
Yess I cannot wait for parkrun to come back! I’ve missed it so much.

I’ll be 7 months pregnant in June so really praying I can still do a run/walk shuffle by then! So far so good - got back up to 45km last week so just need to keep going as long as I can!

Am loving this lighter and warmer weather - it has given me a new lease of life! 😁

I went for a quick run when I got home from work today and ended up doing 4K. Never usually go that far in the week.

Me and my husband did the couch to 5k during the first lockdown. He did really well and was knocking 5k out in about 40 mins. I wrecked my knee in week 9 and gave up 🤦🏼‍♀️ We did each loose about 2 stone though
We’ve decided to start again - starting at week 3 and might fast track through and do week 4 tomorrow
