I ran just over 6k this morning. I followed some of the advice given here about pacing myself and it did make a difference, I probably could have gone a bit further but didn’t want to go out too hard.

Idea from Holly Gabrielle's thread! Thread for all things running.

Tagging people who liked the suggestion: @nbx512 @slamvs27 @jayjay82 @jjhv @Oatmeall @MeLlamoMiami @Welshgal and of course anyone else who's into running!

I kind of gave up on running over the first UK lockdown sadly, so I've just started again today with week 3 of couch to 5k. Found it really tough especially as it's so cold - really hurts my lungs. Would love to get back to a sub 30 5k by the end of 2020 but that might be a bit optimistic!

Anyone else out running atm? Tips for dealing with the cold? I have to say, I really love that the cold air doesn't make my hair horribly sweaty!

Been gradually upping the speed and distance over the last month or so... abs my “easy” 5k this evening ended up with a PB for 1/2 mile, 1km, 1 mile, 2 mile and 5k.

Perhaps I need to push myself a bit more!

seriously though, incredibly proud of that, it’s been a very very long while since I’ve been that fast!

Hi all! It's my first time posting on this thread and I just wanted to say I have been slowly working my way up to running more this past year, and I've just signed up for my first half marathon! It's 6 months from now in October, and I'm so excited to start training for it :) Happy to see a running thread on here!!

Buzzing with my 5K time of 30:41 this morning and my splits actually getting shorter!

I’ve ran 26km this week, was going to have a day off today but decided to go cos the weather is actually half decent and it was my best run! Tbh have been spurred on by my cousin who has been doing this insane challenge for charity where he has to run a kilometre for every day/date of Feb which works out at 408km in total, so he’s running 21km today so a half marathon every day and then some until next Sunday 😂

Haven't been on this thread in a long time but I'm determined to start running again! Did couch 2 5k last summer, and built up to running 10ks most weekends in early 2021, but just tailed off in April/May then stopped running completely. Today I am going to start couch to 5k from week 3- wish me luck! 🤞

Does anyone else find running really good for their mental health? My mind is so clear when I run, nothing else beats it.

Well this morning I went for another run, my boyfriend said he wanted to come with me to which I internally groaned at. He hardly ever runs, he’s into weight lifting, but every time he does run he’s instantly better than me, like in the past he’s last minute decided he wanted to run a 10K race with me I’ve trained for months, he won’t train at all and just turn up on the day and do it in 45 mins, it’s really annoying 🤣

Anyway I said whatever you can come but I’m just going to do my own thing. I passed the 3.25km like yesterday and I’d told myself I could stop just a little further than there, he was still keeping to my pace at this point but then ended up a good 150m in front of me. I was just like GRRRRR and kept running then and ran the full 5K 😂 did it in 33 min 30 seconds. He probably did it in about 31. So I’m really glad he came with me or I wouldn’t have pushed on. Still hate him though 😂😂

Wow this has taken off which is SO exciting to see! I'm based in Australia so we're going into summer. I can never decide whether I prefer waking up to 5 degree or 25 degree running weather, it feels like the grass is always greener 😂

I've been running for about 5 years now for myself but when I was younger I paced my little sister for her workouts, she's now running in the US during uni. I'm currently focusing on the shorter stuff and have a 10km time trial on Sat where I'm hoping to break 45min for the first time. Hopefully I'll be able to get back into half and full marathon training in the new year (we had a few months of lock down where our exercise time was limited to 1-2 hours).

I just got a run coaching qualification that I'm VERY excited about so I'm happy to answer any questions people have about running. My general advice is threefold:
- slow is best and you can never run too slow. My 10km pace is 4.30/km but my easy run pace is around 6.10/km!
- build very gradually and don't compare yourself to others. Everyone has a completely different trajectory and even though it may not feel like much even running for 5min straight is a huge achievement.
- no one can give you running shoe advice apart from speciality running store shoe fitters. Everyone's feet and running technique is different!

Just ran the furthest I've ever been today, 7mi! It didn't feel as hard as I thought it would be but now I'm sooo hungry haha

I love my bum bag for running. I would be lost without it.

Feeling really happy with myself. I’ve comfortable passed my 2mile barrier. My pace is soooo slow. Managing about 2.2 miles in 30 mins but it’s a huge achievement for me. Really want to be able to nail a 5k by the end of jan but not sure I’ll be able to as I can only run twice a week due to injury ☹
Well done!

I am super slow these days but I've stopped beating myself up about it. I just run for enjoyment/mental health and I find this helps my approach to it.

I did 8k this morning. Wanted to do 10 but my knees weren't happy and I'm absolutely shattered today.

Super late to this thread, but I’m obsessed with running!

For those struggling with motivation, don’t tell yourself you have to run for X minutes, or X kilometres, just go out and see how you feel. Sometimes you might only feel like running around the block, and that’s ok- there will be days when you feel great and want to run for ages. Either way, you’re still out there doing it!

Tomorrow on my couch to 10K it’s a 30 minute solid run followed by a 2 minute walk and then a 5 minute run - if someone told me 8 weeks ago id be running 30 minutes I’d laugh let alone 30 minutes and then 5 more!

I've been running since leaving university as 22. Started off with 5K stuff and built up from there to full marathons. And now I do a daily run of between 5 and 10 miles depending on circumstances.

Generally during cold winter months its important to do 10-15 minutes with of warm-ups, stretching and flexing before taking on a full run otherwise you'll feel the cold for longer and your muscles stand more chance of either cramping up or tearing.

But running/jogging just a couple of miles is a good start.

Just bit the bullet and booked in for Friday morning!
I’m looking to increase my running distances over the summer so I need specialist shoes which are properly fitted for my feet, and although I’m slightly dreading it I know the staff are professional and will be the best people to go to for advice etc!
I went and did the gait analysis on a treadmill in a proper running shop I was so embarrassed as I was only starting to run but they were great. I invested in some Hokkas but they aren't for everyone. I love mine. I've since joined our local athletic club and am loving it. I'm not as rubbish at running as I thought and I really love the motivation of running with a group. I was doing a 38 mi 5k ( so super slow!) But after a few weeks of training with the club I got it down to 31 mins and was so proud of myself! I've since been moved up to a higher group and am feeling such a sense of achievement. I would always have been far too nervous and embarrassed to join a running club and I've since realised that they are really for all levels and abilities. Lots of people just starting and others who have been running for years. I've also found everyone to be so lovely and meeting lots of new people.

Today I ran for 50 minutes in 10 mins intervals. Got my 5k PB - 34 mins so not fast at all but I couldn’t run 2 minutes without struggling back in November. And total of 9.5k in 65 mins with walking and running. I have to say I’ve always been sceptical of couch to apps but having almost completed couch to 10K I do now trust the process!

Hauled myself outside to do at 4.5k in the pissing rain this morning, to start my day off work. Still can't believe I did it. Have only gotten into running in this second lockdown thanks to isolating with my bf who is a 5 day a week runner. This was my first run without him in tow for motivation.
I really haven't noticed many physical changes yet beyond endurance, but the mental benefits are utterly brilliant. I also love the supportive atmosphere on the /r/running subreddit, I'm pleased there's a tattle thread as well!

100%. I suffer dreadfully with depression and anxiety and running is genuinely the one thing that will always make me feel better.

I'm a much nicer person when I'm running regularly.
