Sewist Sara has been dropping hints. Steve couldn't contain his excitement, this is from his rarely used instagram account. As we know, until money has been exchanged and the keys are in hand, it is not a done deal.

BIG REVEAL! We are moving to France and buying a castle. We have a signed agreement which makes it real. More info to come.

The chateau looks like it is from Touraine or Anjou area (the style of the windows on the roof). But with a big mixture of more recent stuff (the balcony for example).

If it is the case, it's a good area for chateaux in terms of history and value : Loire Valley (my native region ! The best ! 😅 )

But it is still a brand name.
maybe so, but quality bedding with proper care will last a long time-I however prefer no fancy prints

high quality white cotton or linen so everything can be sanitized would be the best-especially for guest rooms-it complexly skeeves me out thinking about that dark dingy bedding-blech

Sorry but what do they do for a living? They must be loaded??? This looks like a proper château, at least compared to LL.
They have just sold their big house in Canada. Someone here spoke of 1 million Canadian dollars if I'm right ??

Fresh new sheets out of clean never used packaging? Those cost money even at TK Maxx when the brocante down the road has some sitting in the rain for just a couple of euros. It gives the ‘authentic’ feel of life at LaLande of cleaning after yourself, making your own bed and fingers crossed dodging salmonella…
omg can you imagine the musty smell 🤢

She certainly could afford at least down alternative comforters and cotton duvets, Then you would know the duvets got washed after each guest how can you wash those crazy weird quilted comforters.
They don't. It probably DID come from the brocante and went straight away onto that bed. 😳😝

Did a reverse image search on Chateau Shrek and there is not a single other photograph in the universe like it.
I think they work hard, have cleanliness standards, and hopefully some money. I suspect Chateau Shrek will be decorated as their Canadian house was, with a Fortnum and Mason hamper in the entry, and immense upholstered chairs and sofas arranged around a television screen the size of a whole wall. An elaborate kitchen for her hors d'oeuvres of sliced sweet potato and apple, Toblerone cake and Daddy's mountains of BBQ.

@Jikki2 First impression, the same as you, that I have seen that Chateau before. A husband and wife that were doing renovations themselves. The entrance is in the same location but it could just be a similar style. For the life of me I can’t remember their names. I only watched a couple of times.

Castle ten Berghe has a lot of the same patreons as Fan Flash..i even see Brenda Gibbons... He is restoring his towerwindow..omg..no wonder the glass broke..its not by the wind alone..Why not put another window in when you have to screw it out at the first place and bring it to the workshop...Let the carpenter make a new one, and put that in..instead of putting some putty over, and a new glass in... on a rotten window...which was clearly already bad repaired in the past...and didnt fit at all anymore..btw how he put the glass in...clearly not a painter..I know specialists are expensive..but when you do it this way..i guess you have to do it the next year probably again..ending up with a lot of repairs at the same time..
That fast motion run down the stairs with the broken window was suicidally exhilarating though. :ROFLMAO: I'm getting caretaker vibes from the ten Berghes. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Not just bedding is it? What about towels, how often do they get changed? I know cheap ones get 'tired' quickly, when they're constantly used. When money was tight with youngsters, I made the false economy of buying cheap ones. They soon went threadbare....

It's not cheap either.

Many people in France buy their beddings in supermarkets.

But if you manage to buy in their outlets, you can get some good prices (still not cheap though for the average of French households).

She likes to shop outlet stores! Maybe it’s just for spode and clothing. She could find bedding from their outlet that would certainly elevate the guests rooms and would coordinate with her “decor” and freshen the rooms. With all the $$$$ she is taking in she should be able to buy some decent mattresses. Get rid of the rotting bedroom furniture instead of buying panelling, chandeliers and multiple desks. Have some pride of ownership! Probably lost on the selfish!

Steve worked for a PR/branding company in Toronto. Subsequently he formed his own company so he currently could work from anywhere. He also sells his art. Sara worked for a large company in IT. Really not sure if she still does. Now has ambitions of creating historical costumes in France.

How is it possible to make $30K+ a month and not hire daily professional cleaners and send out the laundry?
Let me rephrase my question.
Worker owned cooperatives can be very successful. How to operate a very successful one is well studied, with how tos and assistance online.
Curiously, a business workers looking to start -- it must meet a need deeply anchored locally, going nowhere, and badly served -- is commercial laundry service. Worker coop laundries are burgeoning across the US.
Pulling in $30K+ a month, you could actually do your community some good and set up a worker cooperative commercial laundry for all the chateaux and b n bs in the region. All it would take is work and perhaps a fifth of your income for startup costs.
You could do the same with a worker-run housecleaning cooperative.
Oh well.
Really, it is a wonder she doesn't burst into flame. 🤡

There was a period in my life where I couldn't sleep. Advised to prioritize spending money on blackout curtains, good pillows, linens, fleece bed liner, cotton nightclothes, chamomile tea, etc. I went crazy and started to pay $125 for sets of real percale bed linens. I thought then, and now, that's a whopping sum for superlative cotton sheets that wash up crisp yet soft, and whose aldehydes and ketones when line dried are among the best and most soothing scents anywhere, and because line-dried last for 15 years. I don't think $200 more per set could make it better. That thread count thing is a scam.

I was just thinking if I were dipso in the last throes of the DTs, I would know better than to drink sherry out of those crusty bedroom decanters. 🥴

Because cleaning and laundry cannot come out of the Patron’s renovation funds. They could come out of her YT and Premier monies but we all know that goes to her endless shopping addiction (as I am sure the renovation funds do too).
The BnB eventually will pay for itself and cleaners and professional laundry but not this season due to Covid. Remember pre-Covid they had never broke even but with the momentum of ETTCDIY and CD they were after 16 years. Then again once profit arrives she will spend it faster than a drained lake.

Looks like 19th century house from South West France. Neogothic vibes all over. I feel like I've seen the place before but maybe that's because there must be thousands of similar looking places from Perigord to Basque Country. I would guess the price around the one million euro mark. Could be less, could be more depending on the condition and location. I might have liked it at some point but now my chateau fatigue is real.

Why had they never broken even in 16 years? Even with unpaid workers doing all the work? The cooking, the cleaning? If the BnB never broke even, it could only have been down to no one wanting to stay in a dump in the middle of nowhere. And even today, as seen in the photos of the ratty comforter in the Chambre Perse, there is no reason anyone would want to stay there other than to rub elbows with influencers in their own minds.

I seem to remember her using Tomaz for organizing that laundry room. Stephanie, get off your lazy arse and do something useful for once.
