What I can't get my head is;
1) why I bothered getting my nursing degree and slogging my guts away for the past 15 years when I could have learnt all I needed to know from Jo from Basildon at the Facebook school of medicine
2) why there has been absolutely no critique of the parents or this whole sorry situation by the media? I've been so relieved to have this thread and read sensible, articulate views and explainations of the legal documentation (not my area at all!) So many people I know, both personally and professionally, have completely the wrong end of the stick and truely believe he's in a coma and might just need more timebut then it's no wonder when the facts are being glossed over.
Don't get me started on the go fund me bull, that's a whole different horrific saga isn't it? Absolutely bewildered by it all

Tbf maybe they have said yes, if a hospice is willing to take him and his awful family accept he’ll probably die in transit then what more can the hospital do? As desperate as it is, maybe it’s better this way than the alternative of dying in the hospital, but in a more horrific manner because it goes on for weeks and weeks more.
I'm not a violent person but this woman makes me so angry that I just want to thump her...hard (knocking some sense into her just wouldn't work).
Maybe they have agreed and are going through the terms of using a hospice and the do’s and don’ts . She has already been told no previously so I’m not sure saying yes at this stage would go in their favour. Would just give Hollie more ammunition and enable her to spit out further vitriol against the NHS.
This is becoming unbearable. How much longer is she going to keep that boy in suspended animation? This is a fate worse than death, his poor body has been through enough and I know more than likely he has no awareness and his pain receptors are probably not functioning but it's not the point is it. I understand completely not wanting to let your child go but she's just being selfish now. It's not about Archie and hasn't been for a long time.
I honestly think some of the public, if not the majority (I’m speaking as an anaesthetic nurse in the operating theatre) really do believe cpr is magical and saves everyone, including a 99 year old skeleton who the family insist they want still for resuscitation. CPR is brutal on the body. It’s rare for people to be brought back and carry on as normal afterwards.I would assume it would do more harm than good too his body anyway very quickly - Proper CPR on a living being is rough! Perhaps it may even be a bit gruesome whatever state the body is in
It certainly wouldn’t be any good in poor Archie’s situation as unfortunately there isn’t anything to “bring back”
About time someone said this. I've been thinking for some time that we the taxpayers need some intervention in this awful case.
My only concern is that I don't think she understands or believes the very real risk of him dying in transit, and someone else posted she wouldn't be able to go in the ambulance with him. If that's true surely she will end up regretting letting him die alone in a van with no family around him. Is it right for Archie to die that way as well? Maybe at this point it is, I dunno. Very sad for him if that happens though.
You are absolutely right - survival to hospital discharge after a ‘non-shockable’ cardiac arrest is somewhere in the region of 11-12% - and they will be the patients with an identifiable reversible cause.
Post cardiac arrest death rates are also high.
We talk a lot about moral injury now, the effects of this on the staff involved in any such transfer will be huge.
I wonder if all the family and friends feel the same as her, or if she is such a strong character that they dare not interrupt her narrative.

I believe she is talking about personal care not nursing care . She was saying yesterday how she always baths him and washes his hair etc.
Archie won't be aware of any of it. That's literally the only blessing in this awful situation.
That's because parents are encouraged to do this.
He's her son fgs!! If it was my child I would WANT to do all those things, not that I would ever bein this situation but if my child was in a coma or somewhat similar situation I would be there caring for my child as much as I could. x

She was not complaining. I'm just explaining what she was talking about and people were taking it as though she has said he has not received any care.
That's optional. The staff encourage it but she doesn't have to do it
