Tattoos

I started a tattoo thread recently, but it seems to have disappeared? Anyway...

I’ve wanted a tattoo for the longest time but because I am so indecisive, I never did. This year with everything that’s been going on and now having a ‘life’s too short’ kind of attitude, I decided to go ahead and get one.
I was booked in to get it done next week, but now we’ve been hit with this 2nd lockdown in the UK Hopefully once we’re out of this again, I’ll be able to get it.

A tad worried re the MRI thing a few of you have mentioned. I have to get one done annually and never really paid attention or wandered why they ask if I have one before every one. x

please dont worry about the MRI thing. the lady said it is sooo rare and she has seen 2 cases in her whole career! I'm sure you probably take much bigger risks every day out and about. Life is short, get the tatt!

Would love a sleeve but can't have one cause of my job. Best reactions to my tattoos are when patients who are minors freak out at my ankles

Although I had a French lady who was 72 tell me she was a ravenclaw a few weeks ago when she saw my ankle !

I’m 30 in a couple of months and really want to get one. I’ve wanted a nice little one for years but I’m scared if I have one I’ll get addicted and have to get covered in them

If you've wanted one for years and you're at a sensible age to make right decisions id say go for it
I wanted one for so long but at the time was worried about the exact same thing or that it would 'tarnish my appearance' (I was brought up in a strict catholic school)
I got my first one while living and working abroad when I was about 23 and It brought out another person in me who I was hiding behind the girl with the stiff upper lip never looked back!

Have been tempted, especially during my undergrad years, but have always resisted.

I always think they are a novelty value - all very well to have for the first few weeks, and then get forgotten about, and just remain as a "stain" on my body.

But whatever floats your boat really (although I do believe you have to be careful should you ever need an MRI scan)

I went for an MRI last month and asked about the tattoo thing, she said that in rare occurances they have had a couple of people where the tattoo has got really hot and itchy and caused a superficial burn. Thankfully, not to me! Mine are only teeny though.

I have an elephant on my left wrist and a bird flying out of a birdcage on my right forearm. I love them! I think that'll be it for me though but I would like more. Just know what, the 2 i have are meaningful to me

When I have some money I want a sunflower tattoo for my sister.

My daughter has loads and did them all herself, she wanted to be a tattoo artist but she’s lost her confidence now.

Theres nothing wrong in the design or anything, it’s quite unique. I just wish I got it somewhere more covered up. I’m even considering investing in that cream that covers them for whenever I get married.

My husband has no tattoos and no intention of getting any but has no objections to mine, and most of them have been done since we met. He’s the same about my hair (I’ve spent my life cropping my hair then growing it out again, and dying it every colour under the sun ). He always just smiles and says ‘I married you, not your hair’ if questioned on if he’ll be bothered about whatever change I have in mind.

A Cheryl Cole style tattoo, haha!! Whilst at uni, my friend got the Batman logo on his wrist. We tried to talk him out of it but he was determined. He massively regrets it now. Luckily it’s quite a small one




Yeah, hopefully I’ll be able to handle the pain, I have a really low pain threshold, haha!

How have you found your tattoos to age over time? Have you had any re-inked? I’ve seen some terrible faded ones, not sure if that’s down to people not taking care of them properly, or something else?

Hahahaha I hear you. I almost got the slipknot logo on my forearm when I was 16. Thank god I didn’t.


My tattoos have aged very well. I have quite a lot of neo traditional work which is thick heavy lines and a lot of bold colour. I find that I have some ones that need touching up on areas where I have thinner skin. Also I have a the tiniest blow out on my lines in some areas. But it’s just part and parcel and a risk. I have a tattoo on my arm I’m not overly happy with that I want to get touching up and reworking but that is just for my own personal needs. I think yours will age very well and will heal quickly and with minimal issues.

I will not bullshit you tattoos are seriously painful but the fine line work is very easy and some parts are painless.

I love tattoos and I’m loving this thread! I have one, from around 15 years ago. It’s a simple black and grey one, easily covered. Only a handful of people know it exists! I was pretty young when I got it, but no regrets.
I love them on other people too.
I’d love to get another one. I just find it hard to decide on the placement. I know I’d like something easily covered up again (I LOVE visible tattoos on other people it’s just not ideal for my work situation). And the placement really affects the style/design etc.

Your ideas sound nice, nature ones always look lovely. I love the idea of a universe/space themed one! I’ve seen some amazing designs, including star sign constellations (already planning my 2nd tattoo, haha) and also some gorgeous moon phase ones.

Thank you! Oh wow yes! Those kinds are stunning, there’s so many possibilities. Star sign constellation ones are so cool, so personal in a subtle way. It looks like you’ve already discovered how addictive they are, I love that!
If you feel comfortable doing so you have to report back here once you’ve got yours, it would be nice to see the process come full-circle! Same with anyone else here too!

I have 6 from throughout different stages of my life. Do I like them all? No not now, however they represent the time and stage of my life I had them done. Bit like looking back to old hair styles etc only more permanent I don’t regret a single one. When times get better I’ll be adding a couple more.

I really want a white ink one. I'm quite pale so it would be very subtle, almost like scarring but I'm worried about the ink going pink or yellow.

Something like the left photo, not the full thick white one on the leg.

I have two - a tramp stamp on my lower back which I forget I have most of the time and would definitely not get now given the choice and a very pretty henna inspired design on my wrist which I still love 20 years later
