I’m a bit baffled by some posts. We live in a capitalist society & Jess was born into money.

Influencers work in marketing & they will continue to market stuff. For many it has evolved from a hobby into a career & they have made plenty of money from that.

I watch influencers the way I watch Made in Chelsea it’s bubblegum for the brain.

Hard work does not guarantee success & many are born much richer than others will ever be but that has always been the case.

If you are reading this from a Western country you have won the lottery already compared to many in slums elsewhere no matter how poor or in debt you are by Western standards.

Those who compare themselves to Jess are making the choice to do so. Jess isn’t the girl next door & she never was unlike some influencers. If this makes you feel bad stop watching her.

This is so depressing. What does she do all day?! I know she'll have every resource at her disposal after the baby but she's in for such a wake up call. I worry PND will hit her like a bus.
I also think it seems likely that she'll end up with PPD, if only because she seems to ALREADY have some kind of depression and/or anxiety problems. She seems to see the baby as the thing that will save her current outlook on life, and while it totally might, she also might be one of the people who ends up feeling even more empty and unfulfilled, and then feeling guilty that they're not just over the moon giddy all the time with their new baby, and it spirals out of control. Like you said, she will probably have hired help, and at the very least a stay-at-home father for the baby, too, but I've known several women who seemed to think a baby would automatically make them happy and then ended up quite depressed when they felt like they weren't happy enough after birth.

I wonder if it's less to do with interest and more to do with motivation? Depression has been mentioned a couple times here and I can really buy it. Maybe she only does sponsored stuff because she had to.
I totally agree. Idk if Tattle has the same rules as GG about diagnosing, but....I definitely think she has depression. She's mentioned classic symptoms quite a few times, and it's unclear to me if she realizes they're hallmarks of depression (and anxiety) but just doesn't want to go into that on her videos although she seeks help privately, or if she thinks that it's just normal to need to have a "little bit of a lie-in" every other day despite doing nothing that tiring, be too mentally worn out to walk up the stairs to your living area from the car, etc.

I can’t imagine Jess wanting to leave London. Maybe a second home somewhere, but I think she’d stay in London, just like her mother.

I think she’s not likely to do that, she probably just doesn’t want everyone’s opinion on her pregnancy. She also seems the type who might feel quite strongly about sharing children on the internet (when the baby is born).

I saw this tweet and instantly thought of Jess oops -

I used to really love Jess but seeing how much privilege she has and hasn't had to work for has really turned me off her. So sad about her mum though, I really do wish them the best

I know, many times I thought about it and even considered unsubscribing, but tbh I don't mind that she is rich?
I know it sets a huge amount of false expectations for people and in the beginning, it did for me too, but as I grew up I realized that it's just her life? and I have my life, and I might not be able to afford designer clothes or bags, but I still enjoy being me and what I own, even if I buy it from Facebook or cheap shops.
To be honest I changed the way I thought when she stopped doing the "what I got for xtmas" videos (dunno if any of you remember😅) and I kind of missed seeing what she got, I was happy for her to get it and that's that. and like my mom says " others may have money but we don't know what is going on in their lives or what they will face in the future. We have family and love and we are hardworking people."
I admit some of her choices were not the best, and she is super privileged but somehow I feel like compared to others I still have stuff to relate to, like the book videos and some of her personal opinions on society.... anyway just my two cents...

But that tiktok is terrible, and to think that people who have lived in Edinburgh all their lives can't afford living there breaks my heart 😡

Agreed. Back in her uni days everyone said she was so focused and a hard worker and it motivated them but I've never thought Jess was a hard worker, she's always been lazy it's just that she just actually had things to occupy her time back then. I never understood why everyone thought she worked so hard just because she vlogged herself studying at the library. Most uni students study and do their assignments they kind of need to in order to graduate, I didn't think Jess did anything out of the ordinary for a uni student.
Yeah she was quite average. I know she graduated with a first, but she never did anything outside of the norm. She wasn't in any societies or do any sports or anything. She's lazy through and through.

Where does her father live that she just turned up? She's completely lost touch with reality after leaving uni. She has absolutely no purpose in life anymore.
He’s in Memphis. Not sure how far she has to drive but seemed quite a way.

Her blaming the government is sooo weak. From the moment she was our there, everyone was calling her out. If we knew it was inappropriate by then, there’s no reason she couldn’t. Doesn’t she pride herself in being informed and socially conscious...?! She’s such a hypocrite. The worst part isn’t even that she went, it’s that she’s being a classic YouTuber and refusing to accept responsibility.
I agree her credibility started going downhill when she left university, but this is a total nosedive.

This house renovation will be costing them a fortune, having an architect alone will be a lot of money. Taking her ‘career’ seriously they’re having a separate studio down the bottom of the garden and a bathroom in every room, I’m sorry with two of them living there it’s a bit excessive I think. Money is no object to them the jeans she had on the shopping with sister video go for £137 and the jacket her sister held up had a price tag of £120 you can just about make it out on camera.
Zac must be happy to be her lapdog anyway she let on that he edits her videos and it saves her a lot of time, whatever it is she does with her time lol.

Well that's a rather invalidating and reductive summary that sort of misses the forest for trees. People were making broader points but alright.
Personally I wouldn’t choose to use such cartoons when debating a point with someone, seems like a cheap shot & a fish for likes.

I don’t disagree with several of the points made about Jess’ apparent unwillingness to do pretty much anything.

I am quite baffled by anyone who claims they feel compelled to compare themselves to her. Choosing to compare yourself to anyone is a choice. Why don’t the same people choose to compare themselves to those who are worse off?

Jess’ mum may well have terminal cancer, money doesn’t buy everything.

Anyone else get the impression that Zak does absolutely everything for her?

I'm not mad at the 'househusband' dynamic if that's what works for them, but it's an interesting career trajectory. Do we know what he studied at uni?

Also, I know Jess and her family are less traditional than some of the other affluent YouTubers, but I wonder if a proposal is imminent...
I'm not sure what he studied but he didn't finish the course, he dropped out because he got a job, i think at ladbible in Manchester but not 100% sure. He then was training to be a chef but quit to work for Jess.

You are missing the point. Of course it’s her right. It’s not projection at all. What I’m saying & I think others are saying is that she doesn’t seem happy. IMO post uni she seemed at a bit of a loss. I’ve no doubt YouTube is easy money but I’m not sure how much she enjoys it. She doesn’t reply to comments in general. Her videos are often late. She mainly films in two rooms.
I’m Jess was lying in a bath all day reading but grinning away, I’d still think she was lazy but if she seemed happy so be it.
IMO pre baby she didn’t seem happy, her house doesn’t appear to interest her that much, she seemed lacking in energy constantly, & recently she randomly started talking about studying science. Her energy was different in Edinburgh. Her energy around her girlfriends when she sees them is different. In both those situations & in the baby announcement she seems happy. Otherwise she seems a bit meh.
I agree with you completely about all those things. I think she’s lost and depressed, but she’s also gotten incredibly lazy after she finished her degrees. It just annoys me that some posts are downplaying her pregnancy because they aren’t happy that she’s not doing XYZ instead of motherhood. 😕

Her content is just ads at this point and telling us how she read a book although it seems like a chore to her to read books. Like she "must" do it for some reason. If you don't feel like reading just don't.
From my point of view, it looks like a weird obsession or a compulsive behavior. Something is off... I don't know.

I don't mean to speculate and I know she hasn't been posting as frequently as previous years, but she also hasn't shown herself drinking in any of her vlogs/photos that I've noticed. I remember last year she would often capture having a glass of wine by the fire etc. Am I overthinking this? Probably 😂

We were in lockdown until early Dec, and then back into tiered system with London going into tier 3 in mid-Dec and then basically immediately into tier 4. It’s hardly the time to be travelling? I also don’t believe they left in the 2 weeks between the Nov lockdown and tier 3. They have a perfectly beautiful and massive home in London they could have stayed in - god forbid they should have to spend Christmas there 😂
Yeah this is it for me, the fact they have a beautiful house that they could have stayed at for Christmas. So even if they did go before tier 4 happened it's still really unnecessary to be travelling and risking it.

I can't see any comments calling her out yet, wonder if anyone will. It's put me off watching the video tbh.

Okay been lurking a while but had to set up an account when I saw this thread! I was friends with someone who went to uni with Jess (met her quite a few times). Nice girl as far as I could tell but the image she used to portray of being really hardworking at uni was a lie. She’d get up early, take all her stuff to the library to keep a space then saunter off and spend 90% of the day out having lunch/coffee etc. Her and zac were also incredibly lazy/unclean and would leave old takeaway boxes piled up in her flat for weeks etc.
Bit of outdated gossip as it is from when she stayed in Edinburgh but yeah I had to share.
I'm always surprised we don't get more inside scoops like this!

Also I love your username 😁

oh man. Need to go find proper booktubers, not influencers who read books 🤣

alot of them I find are all about the fantasy books and that’s not my kind of genre 😫
I like booksandquills she’s quite good for recommendations!
